"Where are we?" Summer asked in bewilderment as she gazed at the vast landscape.
Kyle opened his mouth to speak but couldn't find the words.
"I think we may have hit our heads very hard when we jumped," he stammered.
Summer nodded slowly, "So this is a dream..."
Kyle squinted his eyes and sat down slowly.
"Yeesss...we are just in each others dreams, clearly..." Kyle said shakily.
Summer shook her head vigorously, loosening some flyaways in her messy bun.
"This doesn't make sense!" she shouted.
Kyle seemed to snap out of his daze and reached into his back pocket. He pulled out his phone and clicked the power button.
"What the hell..." he muttered.
Summer looked over at him, "What is it?"
Kyle turned his phone around to show Summer his phone screen. It was glitching and shaking all over. There was no clear image of anything, just a blur of moving colors and pixels. Summer reached into her purse and pulled out her phone to see that it was having the same problems as Kyle's phone.
"Water damage I guess," she said, turning to look at Kyle.
He just stared ahead.
He let out a frustrated sigh, "It just doesn't make sense! This can't be real! I..."
He cut off suddenly, staring into the distance.
"What?" Summer asked, turning to look in the direction he was staring. She let out a small gasp. The girl from earlier was standing behind a tree peeking at the two of them.
Kyle leapt to his feet and called out, “Hey! You! Who are you?! What are you?!”
The girl turned and started to run, a pale streak between the trees until she shifted out of sight again and turned into a brown flash of color, galloping away at full speed.
Kyle and Summer broke into a sprint after her running into a forest much like the one with Old Oak. However they quickly lost sight of her due to her incredible speed.
The two slowed to a stop, panting.
"Now what?" Summer asked between heavy breaths.
Then, almost as if on cue, several trees around them began to shake. Rocks and boulders in the ground trembled and the earth itself seemed to quake.
Summer game a small scream and flung herself into Kyle. She clutched his flannel hard enough for her knuckles to turn white. Kyle protectively swung his arms around her as the rocks began to roll and the trees began to twist themselves out of shape. They pulled their roots from the ground to wrap them around boulders and the leaves started to morph into shapes.
And then the ground started shaking almost as quickly as it had begun. The twisted trees now held the shape of large humanoid beings. Only they were made of rocks, trees and leaves. The leaves that made up the shapes of their faces were twisted in disdainful glares, and every being was holding a pointed spear like weapon pointed straight at Summer and Kyle.
