Jaxxen was examining the control board for the entire ship. Everything was running smoothly. The Genesis was the pride and joy of its entire crew. Jaxxen was glad to be a part of the amazing crew.
The door behind Jaxxen slid open and he glanced over his shoulder to see the ship’s captain, Eli. “Hello, Jax. Is everything running smoothly?” he asked as he walked a bit closer and watched Jaxxen type something quickly into the console.
“Everything is fine. Did you need anything, Captain?” Jaxxen asked as he turned to face Eli blushing slightly as he saw how close the other man was.
“I just wanted to check up on you Jax,” Eli said with a smug wink that made Jaxxen’s blush deepen.
“E-everything is going fine. Sir, am I allowed to ask what this voyage is about?” Jaxxen asked curiously.
“We are just scouting. Boring isn’t it? It’ll be over soon and then we can relax for once.” Eli said as he leaned against the console and looked at it in a bored manner.
“For once… you know they’ll just get us right back on our feet the second we sit down. I just want to sit in my apartment and take a long nap.” Jaxxen said looking out the massive window to the empty field of space before them.
“I wouldn’t say no to something like that. While the Genesis is a truly magnificent ship she isn’t the most comfortable.” Eli sighed as he followed Jaxxen’s gaze and looked at the glimmering stars in front of them.
“Home is barely any better at points. We have to go to other planets to get any fresh air and to see any trees or animals.” Jaxxen said cynically.
“Don’t be like that, Jax,” Eli said as he nudged Jaxxen playfully.
“I guess I can quit for the trip. We’ll be back home soon enough.” Jaxxen said as he pulled out a tablet from his pocket and ran a check on the crew.
“How’s everyone doing?” Eli asked as he glanced at Jaxxen.
“Physically? Fine no one’s sick or hurt. Emotionally? Bored as hell.” Jaxxen said with a smirk.
“I can’t blame them. They’re all used to doing missions which are far more exciting.” Eli sighed.
“You mean hunting giant space dragons, stopping huge alien invasions, and exploring uncharted planets?” Jaxxen said as he rolled his eyes.
“Hey, at least we can brag about all that stuff,” Eli said with a smile.
Before Jaxxen could respond the intercom crackled to life. “All onboard staff please report to the laboratory immediately for an emergency meeting. I repeat all onboard staff please report to the laboratory immediately for an emergency meeting.”
Jaxxen put his tablet back into his pocket and headed towards the door with Eli at his heels.
“What do you think this is about?” Jaxxen asked as he swiped his silver hair out of his electric blue eyes.
“Something,” Eli said with a straight face.
“Real mature, Cap,” Jaxxen said as he rolled his eyes.
“You know it, Doll,” Eli said with a wink.
Jaxxen and Eli continued walking in companionable silence. When they reached the laboratory they both scanned their identification cards and walked inside.
There was a large bright white capsule with blue designs. Sitting in the middle of the room. Ranger was examining the capsule looking interested. “Finally! I have been waiting for so long! We needed everyone here to open any foreign objects we find!” the android said excitedly.
Jaxxen smiled at Ranger’s enthusiasm, it was said androids couldn’t feel emotions but Ranger proved anyone that said that wrong. He was nearly jumping up and down in excitement but, somehow containing himself.
“What’s this?” Eli asked as he crossed his arms and tried to hide his smile at Ranger’s excitement.
“We’re not sure, we ran a few external tests but we can’t tell what’s inside of it. We needed to wait for everyone to come here so we could open it.” Ranger said.
“Well, I think everyone agrees that we should just crack this baby open,” Eli said as he leaned back against the wall.
“Yes, sir!” Ranger said excitedly as he typed quickly on his computer.
The capsule opened revealing a rather attractive alien humanoid. They had elegant features that were angled and nearly cat-like. Their skin was magenta and slightly iridescent. They had cat ears and a long fluffy tail. They had short, messy purple hair and long silver claw-like nails.
Everyone was marveling at the alien’s beauty when their eyes opened. The alien’s eyes were bright gold and they looked extremely panicked. Their ears were lying flat against their head as they sat up and shrunk in one themself looking around nervously.
Eli pulled out his blaster and pointed it at the alien whose eyes widened in fear as they shrunk into themself even more.
“What are you doing Eli?” Jaxxen asked his eyes wide as he pushed the barrel of the gun down forcefully.
“It’s an unknown alien. We don’t know if it will try to kill everyone on this damn ship!” Eli snarled as he wrenched the blaster out of Jaxxen’s grip and aimed it back at the alien.
The alien gulped before their skin turned the same color as the background and jumped up before fleeing the room.
“What the hell!?” Eli shouted. He was both angry and surprised. His black eyes were filled with fury as he ran his fingers through his thick black hair. “All of you stop standing around! Get a partner! And find that dammed alien!”
Ranger tugged on Jaxxen’s arm and pulled him out of the room. “If Eli or one of the others finds that alien they are going to kill it. We have to find it first to help it,” he said quickly.
“Right… then let’s go help that alien.”
