Faded Myth

Chapter 2-3

Chapter 2-3

Sep 28, 2019

One of the Green Men stepped forward and jabbed his weapon towards Kyle and Summer. The leaves around its face rustled and shifted as the being spoke. The sounds that came out of it's mouth were sharp and foreign. Kyle and Summer glanced at each other in fright.

Another being made more noises at the first one, and they seemed to communicate back and forth with several phrases until the first being turned back to the teens.

"You intruded. Be punished," the thing spoke in a heavy voice. It had no distinct accent but the English was broken and childish.

Kyle straightened up slightly and addressed the Green Man, "I'm sorry, it was a mistake, please-"

The Green Man roared a gust of wind towards Kyle, who shrunk back down. Then it spoke again.

"Intruders punished by leaders," he said, pointing his weapon at the two again, "Walk!"

Kyle turned and nodded at Summer, who started to walk in the direction that the being held it's weapon. Kyle followed close behind, the Green Men started to walk a well, surrounding the kids like a moving wall of trees. They all marched towards the edge of the forest, reaching the same cliff Kyle and Summer had stopped at before, only the beings took a turn towards the left.

There was a large staircase of large mossy stones that led down the hillside. However the staircase was shorter than it looked, leading down an equivalent of around 5 flights of stairs before it gave way to the grassy hilltop again. Although, this hill was much shorter and fanned out gently to the ground below.

As they all continued walking, creatures began coming up to investigate the commotion and see the intruders of their world.

Summer blushed in embarrassment and stepped closer to Kyle so she could again cling to him.

Kyle however looked around, bewildered at all the creatures that were staring at him just the same. Centaur children hid behind their parents long legs at the sight of strangers. Elves peered up at the party and small iridescent fairies flew around them all.

Soon the group reached a tall, natural stone arch that seemed to give way to a pathway that led into a large cave in the mountainside. They all marched quietly in, and darkness overcame them all.

Kyle stopped for a moment, unable to see anything around him. He felt a sharp spear of the Green Men jab him in the back.

"Hey! I can't see, how do I walk?!" Kyle shouted, defending himself.

He heard the soft murmur of their foreign tongue before he heard the sound of leaves shaking and wood cracking and splintering.

Kyle turned sharply thinking, "What's going on?!

Suddenly, the cave around them began to glow all sorts of magnificent colors. Hundreds of gemstones lit the cave walls and glowed like fireflies of all different colors. Kyle turned to face the sound which turned out to be one of the Green Men dragging his fingers along the wall. They were broken and splintered, but when he took his hand awake they twisted themselves back into shape. He noticed Kyle staring.

He grunted, "Rocks sleep. We wake for light. Walk."

Kyle turned and continued to walk deeper into the cave until a larger light source started to glow at the end of the tunnel. As they reached the opening, they gasped. The tunnel opened into an enormous, cavernous chamber with a large "chandelier" of gemstones and crystals hanging from the top of the cave, illuminating everything around in a soft purple and blue light.

The floor of the cave led to a small pointed bit of the floor which hung over a deep dark pit in the middle of the chamber. However the floor next to the walls wound around the back of the cave, leading to a higher rocky platform. Different glowing caves fed into the large opening, and creatures seemed o slowly enter from all of them.

The Green Men pushed Kyle and Summer towards the pointed overhang until they neared the edge. Then they all raised their weapons and straightened up, forming a barricade that trapped the teens against the dark pit.

Suddenly one of the Green Men shouted in the foreign language again, and every turned to the platform on the other side of the cavern. Dark figures slowly emerged from a dark cave opening behind the platform. Four of them walked out and positioned themselves at both ends of the platform.

Finally, a large lavender colored dragon slowly clawed its way out of the opening and stood at the middle of the platform. It spread its wings wide open and roared.
