I got up pulling a rag from my pocket and placing it to Starburst’s neck. It wasn’t too messy thankfully and I’d managed to keep my face fairly clean. With a quick brush of my sleeve, my face was as it always is. Starburst was still on the floor with his face lowered breathing a tad more heavily than normal.
“Are you alright?” I repeated placing my hand in between his cat ears stroking his ginger hair lightly, “I didn’t get carried away, did I?”
“I said I’m fine…” He mumbled slowly taking my hand and pulling himself upwards, “I have a quick question though…” His face had gone a deep shade of red as he looked at me uncertainly. “I didn’t think about it beforehand, but I’m not going to turn into some cat-vampire hybrid, right?”
My face fell blank a moment before I fell into a loud fit of laughter, “You just made me drink your blood and you’re worried about that..?!?” I was laughing so hard I had to lean on the cat’s shoulder for support, “Geez, you really catch me off guard sometimes with the things you say… What do you think I am? I’m just your standard vampire, I can’t do that sort of thing!”
The cat flushed an even deeper shade of red as he pulled me to the car, “Let’s just get going…” He huffed frowning, “Well, excuse me for putting your health before my own…”
“Thanks for being such a selfless, kitty cat~!” I hummed taking the lead, “I’d surely have been dead long before now if it wasn’t for you.”
“Just shut up…” He muttered refusing to look at me, “You really know how to say some damn embarrassing things…”
“I’m just being honest.”
. . .
“Starburst…” I whimpered smothering the boy from behind as he put clothes in the wash, “Pay attention to me… I get really bored when you work so hard…!”
“Get off me!” Starburst yelped pushing me off, “You might have today off, but I couldn’t do my chores yesterday since I went to the signing with you!”
“Mmm…” I slunk away, “Sorry, I’ll leave you alone…” I muttered lowering my face to the floor, “I know I’m a pain. I don’t know why you continue working for me…”
“Get back here, you dunce…” Starburst sighed grabbing my collar before I could get away, “I like working for you, you know… I think I could say just about anything and you wouldn’t bat an eye.” He ruffled his fingers through my hair earning a light shade of red from my cheeks, “Just let me finish up the chores and I’ll make sure you’re not lonely.”
I squeezed the boy suddenly burying my face in his shoulder, “I really love you, Starburst…”
Starburst twitched slightly in my arms, “What the hell are you saying now!” The cat announced suddenly pushing me away, “Go and do something away from me!”
“Yes, Sir!”
. . .
I sat in a chair in the lounge my back rested against one armrest and my legs propped up on the other as I sipped at a large cup of tea. It was getting quite late and Starburst was going to have to leave for university soon. He was a lot more hardworking than me and he always seemed so confident in what he did. I sighed continuing at my tea as Starburst entered the room.
“What’s got you looking so down?” The catboy asked noticing the drink in my hands, “Geez…” He muttered under his breath shaking his head, “If you have all that caffeine you're going to be awake all day…”
“But it makes me feel better…” I whined as he took the cup away, “Star is mean… I just wanted some tea.”
“Like hell you did.” He forced me into a normal sitting position before setting the cup on the end table next to me, “You’re not this worked up because I told you to wait, are you?”
“Of course not.” I pouted pointing my face away from the boy, “I’m not that immature, you know?” My arms crossed tightly as I reluctantly turned to his face, “Just feeling guilty, I guess… I don’t work you too hard, do I?”
Starburst blinked as he lowered himself to my level, “Why would you think that?” He rested on hand on my shoulder carefully inspecting my eyes, “Onyx, if that were the case, I would tell you right away, okay?” My face slowly reddened at the kitten as he spoke to me so sweetly, “Now, you wanted me to pay attention to you, right?”
I only flushed even more as he smiled at me, “Jeremy…” I gasped hugging him tightly around his waist, “I wasn’t lying yesterday, you know…” I squeezed even tighter resting my head against his midsection, “I really do love you, Star…!”
“You’re only saying that because I’m here…” He tilted up his face at me looking stressed by my sudden confession, “If there’s someone you’d rather be with you can just ask me. I can call them over for you…” He removed my arms from around him, “Sorry…” I could feel his heart pounding as he slowly pulled away from me, “It’s time for me to get to school. Do try not to die before I get here tomorrow evening.”
