The dragon's roar soon died out into a hoarse cough.
One of the figures next to it turned and put a hand on its side. She looked like an elf, with long pointed ears. Her hair was a light gray color and it fell down past her shoulders in lines straighter than imaginable. A sparkling silver headpiece with a round orange gem wrapped around her forehead, resting on her ashy hair. She wore a deep scarlet robe-like dress that dragged behind her on the floor. She whispered something in the native language to the dragon.
The dragon nodded. As Kyle looked closer, he could see that the dragon actually looked ancient. The scales around its face drooped and the large lavender wings seemed ripped and shredded at every end.
On the other side of the dragon sat a large phoenix. The ends of its feathers burned a brilliant flame. Its red eyes looked down upon Kyle and Summer, then it turned to face the dragon as well.
Beside the elf lady stood a centaur. His shoulders were broad, both human and horse. He had a full beard which crawled up the sides of his head to meet his mess of dark wild hair. His coat matched his hair in its dark color, but it gleamed as if it were the only part of himself that he kept groomed. He stamped his hooves angrily while he stared daggers at the teens.
Finally, beside the phoenix sat an ugly looking creature. It had greenish brown leathery skin and it sneered at them. It must've been a goblin, it had every aspect of a storybook goblin from the color to the dubious stare.
Kyle gulped. These must be important figures if everyone was gathered around them like this.
The dragon spread its large wings again, silencing all the hushed murmurs from the crowd that had gathered in the cavern. Then it opened its mouth and spoke.
"Humans. You have invaded our land. Why have you come here?" it asked in an old, hoarse whisper of a voice.
Kyle shuffled his feet.
"It was an accident, please we don't know where we are or how we got here," Kyle stammered.
The centaur slammed his fist down on the stone platform.
He snarled at Kyle, "Your kind is never welcome here!" He turned to the dragon and raised his voice, "I don't understand the debate here! They trespassers of human kind and they must be killed!"
Summer's face turned a ghastly white and she glanced at Kyle, who wore the same expression.
The elf turned to the centaur and spoke in a gentle voice, "I do not agree with you, Antreas. We should not kill if this was an accident."
The Centaur looked furious and shouted, "Didrika, you wouldn't understand this matter! Your people never kill, but mine do! And these humans should perish!"
The phoenix ruffled its feathers and flames flared up from every single one. It flapped its wings and added its opinion.
"I agree with Antreas, these humans are not welcome here! They must burn!" it cried, flapping its wings, sending flames high into the cavern.
The goblin beside it shied away from the flames, but nodded in agreement.
All of the figures started to argue, with the centaur beating the ground with his hooves, the elf keeping a cool temperament, the goblin nodding along to the harsh punishment suggestions, and the phoenix shooting flames into the air.
Suddenly, the dragon opened its wings in a swift movement, sending a gust of air around the whole cavern. Everyone quieted and the arguing of the figures died down. She spoke slowly to the entire chamber.
"I do not approve of humans in our land. But I will not kill young humans. They are children and show no harmful intent. If they posed a threat our guardians would have killed them. We will let them return to their home," she said coolly.
Summer and Kyle glanced hopefully at each other. Then the dragon spoke again, staring intensely at them both.
She hissed, "Take them to Khannah, we will wipe their memories and send them home. They will never remember this world."
