Emily deflated slightly allowing her indignation drop away upon hearing about the scandal from before. She shook her head slightly. "That was more her decision, she felt it was better for business if she still appeared available to the masses, she claimed it helped bolster sales of tickets and would ensure possible "suitors" would send gifts that we could take advantage of. It was all distasteful to me but I went with it because she was just so... sure of herself. She always had that effect; she'd soothe my fears away because she was always so confident about her actions."
Alex listened to her as she finished up drawing the symbols, as he took the notepad back he looked over the images. "She is a shrewd businesswoman. That's an admirable trait to be sure. She knows her audience and played to its weaknesses." He looked back to Emily. "These are exactly as you recall them? There is nothing you'd like to add to the events of the disappearance? Do you think you could recall the exact location of this cave you spoke about if you saw a map?" He pulled open a drawer and pulled out a rather old topographical map of the local city and surrounding country side, unfolding it and showing it to her. It was clear it had seen much use in the past.
Emily nodded earnestly "That's everything to the best of my recollection" She looked at the map and studied it carefully, Alex felt that since she was a landscape artist and she was asked to travel to a specific spot she might be able to identify where it was or at least close to it, she did frequently travel to paint by sight after all. "I cannot be certain, but I think its right here in this area" She pointed at an area on the map that showed it was nestled in a gully between two rather steep hills, It would be well hidden to say the least and there was no cave marker of it on the map. Perhaps it was long forgotten as these things tend to be.
Alex nodded to her, marked the spot on the map with the pen, and stood up. He walked around the desk to offer a helping hand to Emily. "Miss Beauchene, as I said, I will do my utmost to help in finding her. But I want to make this very clear, I cannot promise what I find will be comforting or pleasant. I will however look for the answers you need." He took her hand and led her to the door. "Would you like me to call you a taxi or have you got a ride home?"
Emily shook her head. "Thank you Mr. Byrne, My car is around the corner and I can make it from here. I thank you for your help and can only hope for good news."
Alex nodded, "It's all any of us can hope for, I'll pass on news to you at your studio when I get some relevant information. In the meantime head home, get some rest. I doubt Miss Delacroix would like to think of you worrying yourself sick." He escorted her down the steps to the front of the building opening it up for her and sending her on her way without another word, he now actually had work to do, and was eager to do it. He started back up the stairs making his way back to his office.
Alex sat down and rubbed his temples, gathering up his notes and placing them in the folder that he placed on his desk earlier. "I'm going to need to start on this in the morning." He looked at his watch. 4:15 in the morning. "Well, in a few hours at least." With that he closed the folder and walked over to the couch in the office unceremoniously falling onto it to attempt a few hours of rest before he took this on in force. Blackness soon overtook him as the heaviness of sleep fell over him.
