Beware of The Green Eyed Demon

Prologue

Prologue

Oct 05, 2019

For as long as I can remember, people like me were shunned and forgotten by humans. No one truly understood who or what we were and still are, I was even driven out of my home village, not only by those who feared my kind, but by my own morbid curiosity of what lies beyond our world. The village lies within the forest of the Palncons region. It’s not very well-known and was barely thriving. Few merchants and travelers came around, and when they did, it was usually a short visit considering we were in the middle of nowhere.

Whatever is beyond the forest is what others have deemed ‘the badlands’. Through the past seven and a half years of my travels, it’s an appropriate title. Constant wars and fights, bandits at every turn like shadows, and constant bloodshed. But luckily it isn’t half as bad as it was years ago before this system of leadership was created; years ago kingdoms like Altique and Padoram were on the brink of war, that’s when the high commission had decided to bring about a new kind of monarchy. This kind of governing was based on the individuals who ruled each region. Unfortunately, these ideas and concepts were twisted and molded into something sick. The Palncons have a monarchy with a demented twisted king. The region of Altique doesn’t have kings or queens; instead each village has representatives deemed lords. The Moscoan’s have a group called ‘The Jury’, which is almost like the high commission. Then the region of Padoram, it’s probably the most corrupt one of them all.

Within the past three years, they have dominated and invaded the former region of the Viliskian’s. Cities and towns burned; women and children alike were brutally murdered; while the men, who were defending their home on behalf of the emperor, were burned alive. The emperor wasn’t all that bad; he was kind and thought about his people. The worst part is that he gave his life to save his two daughters. He fought alongside his people to save what was left of his burning kingdom, it was worthless. The Padoram soldiers had already infiltrated the armory and had blown up what little chance they had.

Right now, my kind are being hunted by the ‘Jury of Moscoan’, No one understands why this sudden war was waged against us. We don’t particularly want to know, we just do what it takes to survive. Most gatherings of demons are in small forgotten villages that have lost themselves to time. The current village I had come across was somewhat close to my birth place.

I remember that our village leaders were always so strict about children going into the old ruins of this place. No one really gave an explanation of why it was abandoned. Some thought resources became too scares, which would make sense to why the more recent village was built within a three days journey if you’re riding horse. Others have come up with a theory of nightmares picking off the dying community.

Whatever the reason may have been wouldn’t matter now, what does matter now is to survive. That was just the way our world was built, no one dared to question it. We live and then die, nothing more and nothing less, personally I wouldn’t say ‘live’. It’s just constant worry, and if I’m being completely honest, I wish it wasn’t like this. I wish there wasn’t this constant cloud constantly plaguing the air. But no matter how hard one may wish, nothing ever changes, it just a fact of life. That’s what our world was built upon. Facts, facts that spread across your body like raging tumors threatening to burst. Nothing changes, not until now.

Now, there’s a rising increase of magic users. Now, we have a stronger will, a stronger want for living. Now…..now we’re all uniting against those who have caused mass genocides and against those who have pushed down to our knees. They can’t stop what was inevitable, they never could. All that’s left now is for fate to decide our place. Whether those odds are in our favor or not, was never our decision. These corrupt leaders know this, and they aren’t too happy about it.
