“Your sister looks so adorable in her gown, doesn’t she?” I smiled as I looked on the dance floor to see my little sister all grown up. She was now sixteen as of today. A wedding was also starting to be planned between her and Prince Johnathan. I watched as she stepped with grace across the dance floor as men from many kingdoms danced with her.
“Looks like your suffering paid out. She’s no longer stepping on feet.” Edward laughed as he stood next to me. I looked down at my feet and tried not to remember all the pain she had caused me in the past few weeks when we were practicing. Her gown was down to the floor and was a solid red. It was strap less and her skin was flawless. Her pale skin seemed to light up under the lights above.
“Why doesn’t the prince go out on the dance floor?” Edward laughed.
“I am not really into being the center of attention. Wearing this patch is already something that attracts attention.”
“I think you look adorable!” I felt arms wrap around me and sighed as I knew it was Ally.
“Aren’t you supposed to be doing perimeter checks with Ben.”
“But then how can I enjoy the party with my love.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the dance floor. I noticed others around us quickly disperse as we began to do the waltz. Erik had taught me when I was younger how to dance to any dance at these parties. He said it was a King’s duty to be perfect at it. Ally was an amazing dancer and I could feel all the eyes start to focus on us as we gracefully moved across the floor, “Smile, you look so serious right now.” Ally whispered.
“I told you before, I don’t like to be the center of attention.”
“But you are such a talented dancer.” She replied. The song ended and we both bowed to one another. I walked back towards Edward who was holding back laughter. Ally smiled as she stood next to me, “That wasn’t that bad. Look, even your sister seems to have enjoyed it. She seems to have stopped to watch you also.” I glanced over to see my sister waving at me. I smiled and nodded back at her. I watched as a younger man bowed in front of her and asked to dance. I watched as she smiled and walked out to the dance floor again. I took a deep breath and walked a large door that was a window to the grand hall. I felt a cool breeze hit my face as I leaned against the railing. I looked out at the garden below and could see small fireflies below lighting up some of the bushes and trees. I could see a guard paroling the garden and glanced up at the sky then. I noticed how clear it was and noticed how large the moon was above me. I noticed a large creature fly overhead and watched it block out some of the moon’s light.
“Can’t believe I was reborn into a world like this. Something that was only in stories, is now real enough to touch.” I gently touched my eye patch, “To think, some of my closest friends are those who have passed away.”
“Here you are.” I turned to see Johnathan walk towards me, “You have never been one for parties. You always seem to leave early.”
I laughed and leaned over the railing, “You and my sister. You always seem to find me.”
“What can I say. We know you better then yourself at times.” He leaned on the railing next to me, “So many dragons in this area now a days.” He looked up and II saw a shadow of a large one above us on the ground.
“Well we have the true King here.”
“He is still not the crowned King though. His brother still holds the throne.”
“And yet, his people moved here and follow Edward.” I leaned back and turned around.
I heard Johnathan take a deep breath and look at the garden, “Remember when we were kids, we use to hid in the bushes from our maids.”
“I remember you getting such in a thorn bush.” I smiled.
“And you left in it for the longest time because you were afraid of getting poked.”
“I didn’t leave you. I went to go get help. My clothing would have been caught just like yours.” I punched him gently on the arm.
“We both got in so much trouble that day. Our clothing was so torn up.”
We both laughed and then went quiet. We glanced up at the sky above again. I felt his arm touch mine and I glanced over at him. “You know, I was afraid you hated me when we first met.” I took a step back from the railing.
“I did. I hated you a lot. Son of the man who threated my father. I had every right to hate you.”
“That’s true.” I mumbled and turned around.
“But that changed the moment you saved me from that man. I noticed you were willing to keep fighting till you couldn’t.”
“We were just kids. I just reacted without thinking.”
“Prince.” I felt him grab my arm and I turned around. His face seemed to be serious as he looked into my eye, “Your sister is an amazing person, but you…you are the one I want to always be with.”
