Lyssa rested her head on Bex's chest, Bex was already sound asleep. It was well past midnight but still, Lyssa refused to leave Bex's side. She stared out the window and thought about how the connection between her and Bex suddenly going silent made her feel. She was home when it happened, just about to sit down and read when all of a sudden poof, gone.
She had dropped her book in shock. She would never tell Rebecca but Lyssa was always trying to listen in on the girl's thoughts and soaking in her emotions. She always felt something from Bex, she had grown used to the connection even became fond of it. She liked to feel human things through Bex and when it was gone she panicked.
She had called Bex several times, she had texted her. When she got no response, her mind went to a very dark place. She thought of all the horrible things that could have happened to Bex. She thought for sure that the Slayers must be doing another one of their tricks. So she sped over there but they were just as clueless as she was.
That feeling, that awful feeling of despair and helplessness, it still lingered inside of her. She had almost forgotten what it had felt like, it had been years since she felt that level of grief and despair. All those horrible emotions and memories rushing to the surface of her brain. She was so scared that she had lost Bex already. The fear crippled her, paralyzed her into a state of inaction. She hadn't known what to do or where to go, and couldn't do anything but stand there in fear and send a silent prayer to whoever was above, if there even was such a person, in hopes that Rebecca, her Rebecca was okay.
Seeing Bex like her usual self made Lyssa breath again, she felt so much relief at just being able to see her face one more time. Completely unharmed and okay. She knew she was in love with the girl, but until then she never knew how deep that love truly ran. She would have done anything to see Bex safe and alive again, even if it meant taking on the whole world.
She clung tighter to Bex and nuzzled her head deeper into Bex's chest. Bex mumbled in her sleep and wrapped her arms around Lyssa. Even now those feelings still lingered. She couldn't shake them. Now that they were back to the surface of her mind she couldn't so easily shove them back down.
"Damn you, Rebecca." She whispered.
She cursed the girl for making her feel so helpless, so vulnerable. Things she hadn't felt in such a long time. If anyone really wanted to hit Lyssa where it hurt they need only to go for Bex. The thought scared her. The fear of failing coming on full force. So many questions and doubts running through her head.
What if she couldn't be there to save Bex in time? What if she was helpless when Bex really needed her help? What if they got disconnected again, how would she know where to find Bex if she was in danger?
Bex shifted in her sleep her face scrunching up in distaste.
"No, lyssa..." Bex mumbled in her sleep.
Lyssa sighed shifted a little so her full weight wasn't on Bex.
Bex smiled and hummed in her sleep before nuzzling into Lyssa.
"Lyssa..." Bex mumbled.
Lyssa smiled and moved her hand to run her fingers along Bex's face.
"Sleep my love, peaceful sleep," Lyssa whispered.
Bex's body relaxed even more and her smile faded away. Lyssa kissed her lightly on the cheek before getting up.
She walked over to the window and lingered for a moment. The thought of leaving Bex made her fear spike again. She took a calming breath and opened the window. She didn't want to smother Bex because of her own fears and insecurities. She climbed out of the window and shut it behind her before turning into a bat and flying off into the night.
The bat flapped its wings and glided through the sky and into the woods. It flew past trees and animals before landing on the roof of the mansion-like house. Then it flapped over to the balcony and transformed back into Lyssa.
Lyssa pulled out a key from her pocket to unlock the balcony doors and get into her house. She disarmed the house with her phone and shut the doors behind her. She was in a room, Lacy's old room. It still had much of Lacy's things in it as Lyssa never got around to cleaning it out.
She used to love coming into this room, but now it brought pain and anger to her heart. The room was grand and most definitely the biggest room in the house. It had a huge king-sized bed with thin see-through curtains that hung down on each side of the bed from the canopy above.
Everything in the room was a pearlescent white color. With light lavender accents. The carpet was white and very soft. The furniture was white, with a huge mirror connected to the dresser. The walls were a light lavender and so was the bed frame.
Lyssa sighed she took in the room it had been so long since she had been in there, she had forgotten just how much she loved the room. Lyssa always wanted the room to herself but Lacy had insisted that she get it. When they were together Lyssa would often lay with Lacy in the room, but since they broke up, she shut and locked the room. Refusing to go inside.
She smirked as a thought came into her head. She quickly decided to clean out the room, as she was going to give it to Bex. That way Bex could have her own room in the giant house. She sped back and forth through the room cleaning out all of Lacy's things. She stripped the room until it was nearly bare and smiled as she got to work on her new project. She was going to make it Bex's Christmas present.
Near morning Lyssa got changed and ready for school. She walked to her fridge and pulled out a blood bag. With her new advanced hunger craving, she had been secretly stealing blood from the hospital. She had done it once or twice before but not to this degree. Not even Bex knew yet. She didn't want to put pressure on the girl nor did she want to offend her by finding someone else to drink blood from. So it seemed like the only solution to Lyssa. Sure, there was animal blood, Lyssa had even read about vampires who used to drink goat and sheep blood. She shuddered at the thought. The blood bags would have to do. They definitely did not compare to getting it from the source but as Bex would put it, it was a seven on the food scale. Just average.
So Lyssa ripped one open and sipped from it as if it was a juice pouch.
Cold blood was gross, but she feared that warming it up in the microwave would ruin it, she also didn't have time to boil water and warm it up that way, so cold would have to do. She zoomed out the door and to school, depositing her "Juice" pouch in the trash on her way in. she walked over to Bex and sat next to her.
"Morning." Bex smiled at her.
"Morning, Rebecca I have a question for you."
"Fire away."
"What is your favorite color?"
"Orange, like the pumpkins," Bex and Joan said at the same time.
"Hey!" Bex giggled.
Lyssa frowned at Joan.
"Do you remember mine?" Joan teased Bex.
"Of course, grey like a stone."
"That's correct." Joan smiled.
"What about you guys, what's your favorite color?" Bex asked her friends.
"Oh, I love teal. Like a seafoam teal." Darci said.
"Blue, like the night sky blue," Jaden said.
"I am a neon green kind of guy," Mike said.
"Lyssa?" Bex turned to her.
"Red, like blood," Lyssa said.
Bex rolled her eyes.
"What other colors do you like Rebecca?" Lyssa pushed.
"I love purple, and marrons. Basically, I love fall colors."
"I see, then I shall keep that in mind." Lyssa smiled at her.
"Are you up to something that I don't know about?" Bex leaned in close to Lyssa and gave her a devious smirk.
"Maybe I am, but you will have to wait and see." Lyssa leaned in closer and flashed her own cocky smirk.
"Or you could tell me."
"Not likely." Lyssa leaned in and kissed her.
Bex giggled into the kiss and the two commenced their morning make out routine.
Joan sighed and turned to look away.
Darci was about to say something when Aron, her boyfriend walked over. Without much of a greeting he sat down next to Darci. Lyssa and Bex hardly paid them mind as their tongues tangled together.
"Hey," Darci forced a smile.
"Hey, uh... so you didn't answer my text." He said.
Darci shifted uncomfortably in her seat and glanced nervously at her friends. Joan raised an eyebrow.
"Um, sorry. Maybe another time?" she said nervously.
"Come on Darci, we've been over this." He pushed.
"Hey, she said get lost pal." Mike tried to make himself look bigger.
Bex pulled away from Lyssa and turned to look at the scene.
"Fine, I'll be there, just go." She pushed him lightly.
He kissed her on the cheek before quickly walking away.
"What was that about?" Joan pounced.
"Nothing." Darci nervously pushed her hair back.
"Is he messing with you? Do I have to beat him up?" Mike puffed his chest.
"Calm down Mike Tyson." Jaden swatted at him.
"Guys it's cool, really. Just drop it." Darci said.
"Darci you can always talk to us." Bex pushed.
Darci eyed Bex, she had always felt closer to Bex than her other friends. After all, Bex knew things about her that the others didn't. She shifted uncomfortably.
"I'm fine," Darci said firmly.
Bex frowned.
Just then the bell rang for class. Darci shot out of her seat and quickly walked off to class.
Joan and Bex shared a look.
"Intermission time." They said in unison.
"Maybe now would be the time to tell her about the vampire in the room?" Jaden pushed.
"No!" Joan, Lyssa, and Bex all said at the same time.
He narrowed his eyes before stomping off to class. Mike sighed and chased after him.
"Maybe we can go over to Darci's tomorrow," Bex suggested.
"You just don't want to train anymore." Joan shook her head.
"Maybe, but also obviously Darci is hiding something and needs us right now. You saw how uncomfortable she looked." Bex pointed out.
"Fine, but you better train with Lyssa today, I mean it, you two better not just make out." Joan began to walk to class.
"Don't worry, I intend to teach Rebecca something new today." Lyssa grabbed Bex's hand.
"No, you slave driver." Bex pouted.
Lyssa rolled her eyes and the two walked off to class.
After school Bex and Lyssa walked into the training room.
"Okay, what do you have to teach me oh wise one." Bex teased.
"Come, I've gotten you something." Lyssa led Bex over to a table with a long case on top.
Lyssa put on some black leather gloved that laid next to the case and carefully opened it.
