I remember those times when I was a kid watching some random show on TV. Sometimes, my parents would change channel and occasionally you would see some with nothing on them. Either a pitch-black screen or this irritating, constant buzzing of black and white dots, flickering all over the place. I remember asking them what that was and they explained to me “it was nothing”.
I was mind blown. That “nothingness” got me fascinated. It made me uneasy due to how unpredictable it was. And you could try and imagine things on it too. Faces. Animals. Monsters. You name it. If you stared at it long enough, you could see patterns going around, over and over again.
It scared me and at the same time it excited me.
Ocasionally, I would hear the noise of that "nothingness".
SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
Constantly.
Needless to say, I had a few nightmares with this. You tried to control it, but you cannot. It overpowers you. You try to walk away, but it’s still there. The noise and the constant frenzy of black and white.
Later in life, I learned the sound was called “white noise”. And it bothered me, somehow. Just like, I believe, it bothers everyone up to a certain point. But, like everyone, I paid no attention to it.
I wish it had stayed that way.
