I admit, I sighed in relief as I heard the shower instead of that unsettling noise. One of the many sounds in a house that indicate people are alive and doing stuff. Sometimes, I liked it. I really liked it.

This was a great time to investigate. But just to make sure…

“Hey Matt!” I knocked in the bathroom door. “You wanna order a pizza tonight? It’s Friday and there’s offers and stuff.”

“Oh, hey! Sure thing, mate. You know my one, so go ahead.” He replied.

Well, he sounded normal enough. Maybe I was being paranoid?

Doesn’t hurt to make sure, right?

“Hey, mind if I use your laptop? I’m doing an upgrade on mine…” I had to try my luck.

Silence.

“…Y-Yeah, okay! But I think I got a virus in there or something, so… yeah. Can you use your phone?”

That sounded like bullshit to me. No way out for me on this one, so I threw in the towel.

“Alright, I’ll do that now. You can pay me later.”
