“Lars! Come on! Time to go.” Sasha called to me as she peeked into my room.
I walked out of the observation room and began to put on my coat.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m coming.” Once my coat was on, I walked over to her and flicked off the lights in my office. The computer monitors were still on. But it was fine, I always keep them on.
“Doesn’t that waste energy? You know we live in a city, right?” Sasha raised an eyebrow at me.
“Eh, doesn’t matter. It’s fine.” I shrugged and walked out of the room behind her. We walked down the hallway to the elevator. Sasha pressed the elevator button.
“Hello there.” And there stood the twins from before. Silas spoke and smiled up at Sasha and me.
“Hey! How was your day?” Sasha asked as she sauntered into the elevator. I walked in behind her with my hands in my pockets.
“Fine. Right, Evelyn?” Silas turned his head to his twin sister who only nodded in response.
“That’s nice.” I leaned on the elevator walls.
“Oh, Evelyn? You’ve got a bit of...red on your shirt collar.” Sasha pointed out. I looked at the girl who, indeed, had a red stain on her shirt collar.
“Hm?” Silas turned his sister to look at him. Evelyn observes her collar. She made a quiet noise at the stain, though her face was still stiff and still.
“How unfortunate. Well, time to wash this anyway.” Silas put his hand on his sister’s shoulder. “It was just a bit of residue from work today.”
The stain smelled of blood. It was pretty obvious anyway. Surprisingly, the twins were hitmen. Assassins trained at the age of five, they have learned to kill and destroy no matter the circumstances. They’re basically killing robots.
“So, where do you plan on going to after we leave here?” Silas raised an eyebrow at Sasha and me.
“I don’t know. Why do you want to know?” I glared at the boy.
Sasha punched my arm and responded, “Lars! Don’t be rude to children. Actually, we’re going to a club after this.”
“A...club? Like a chess club?” Silas cocked his head to the side in an inquisitive manner.
I chuckled to myself at how innocent the boy was and answered his questions, “No, we’re talking about an adult dancing club. They have those for when you get older.”
“Oh? How interesting. Would you want to go to one with me, Evelyn?” After asking her, Silas’ twin nodded with a slight smile.
Sasha grinned at me with stars in her eyes. From the look on her face, I could tell that she was amused by the sweetness of the lil’ assassins.
Suddenly, the elevator came to a stop. The door squeaked open and the twins walked through them.
“Goodbye,” Silas mumbled as the two walked out the front doors of the government building. I waved to them and Sasha shouted her goodbyes.
“Club Raven?” I asked Sasha, who began to walk away from me.
“Yep! Come on!”
-------------------------------------------
As we walked into Club Raven, the bright lights and signs shined into my eyes. The loud music filled my ears, giving the strong urge to bust out into song and dance to match the song. At the moment, Whitney Houston was playing on the speakers.
“Oh, I wanna dance with somebody…” I mumbled to myself.
Sasha had already run off with some of her other friends she met here. I wasn’t really the type to go out and make friends right on the spot.
“Hey, sugar lips? Want to dance with me?” A man about my height with jet black hair sauntered over to me. I shook my head and walked away, pushing through a large amount of people to the bar area.
I sat down at one of the chairs and sighed. A minute later, I called over the bartender and she poured me a shot of whiskey. Taking a sip, I looked around me. Turns out, that a few seats away, a boy with blue dyed hair leaned on the bar counter taking a swig of a bottle of beer. Finally feeling the effects of the “cup of confidence”, I decided to walk over. I sat down next to the boy who still stared at the bar counter.
“Hey, you okay?” I put my hand on his shoulder.
“Yeah. Bad day.” The boy had a thick Irish accent that made him slur his speech when he spoke. But perhaps that was the beer? I couldn’t tell at the time.
“Want to tell me about it?”
“Sure. But first,” He took the last sip of his beer, “You have to buy me another beer.”
“You know, alcohol doesn’t solve all your problems, kid. But, sure, whatever.” I waved over the bartender and bought him another beer. Once he finally got it and opened it up, he began to tell his story.
“You see, I’m apart of a...little business. It’s what I like to call, selling myself off. Originally, it was only a side job. In and out of apartments. Leaving guys and girls left and right. But after I got fired from my day job at the library in Tobridge, I had to change my schedule. Recently, I’ve been a bit tired lately. Tired of the whole schedule and shit. So then, today, I went to some guy’s apartment. He told me to meet him there in the evening, on account of his girlfriend coming home from work at night. So I got there and he’s sitting on his couch. I asked him, ‘When do you want to start?’. And he says to me, ‘I don’t know. Maybe never?’. Like, he actually said that. What the hell does that even mean? So, I say to him ‘So what the hell did you call me for?’. And he says to me ‘I just needed someone to talk to’. I really didn’t feel like listening to someone else’s problems while also worrying about mine but I was feeling a bit generous too. So, I decided to listen to his little tale. And oh my gosh, I was never so bored in my life. He went on and on about his girlfriend being a bitch and about his parents not accepting his job as a plumber instead of being a doctor. It was so annoying. So when he finished, I just left without him paying me. He insisted he pay me but I didn’t want to stay, so I just ignored him. But listen to this part, once I got into my car, I started crying! Seriously! Why did I cry? I have no damn idea!” The boy explained.
With every word, I took a tiny sip of my drink. And once there wasn’t any left, I bought another one and another one and another one. By the time the story was over, I was wasted as hell.
“Wow, I can’t believe that happened,” I said, taking another drink.
“I know right! Anyway, now I’m feeling a little excited so I need someone to calm me down, up for that?” The boy put his hand on mine.
I nodded and asked lazily, “Your place or mine?”
“We can come to my house. I recently cleaned it so it should be just fine.”
