I scan the woods around me, the woods that I had heard so many stories about and slowly smiling I turn to Alec, “We will head to the nearest town and sleep here tonight.”
“But my-” he started then thinking better he said, “Yes Ma’am.” And turning he and the elves started back to their horses. I looked at Archer, “Where is the nearest town we could stay in?”
Archer grinned, “Oh, you don’t have to go anywhere just stay with us.”
His men started to protest but he stopped them with a hand, “They aren’t the sheriff's men how many times to I have to tell you this. Why should we be afraid of showing them our camp?”
“Well, Archer what if it is a whole scheme created by the sheriff.” Said the giant man who had faced off against Alec and had come away with a bloody nose.
“I assure you we know nothing of your sheriff nor his plans for you.” I said taking a step forward and indicating the gold Dragon symbol placed over our hearts, “We are from the Qusal Kingdom and we mean you no harm we are just on our way to the front lines of a war between our kingdom and another's. This was the quickest way.”
Some of the men still looked suspicious but slowly nodded their consent to Archer who then smiling walked over to the edge of the path, “This way to Outcast Heaven!”
I shook my head at how ridiculous he was acting and untying Aslan's reigns I follow after him, my elves and his men on two different sides of us. As we walked Archer hung back to talk to Alec and soon they were laughing and smiling at each other. Other then the sound of their laughter and the chirping of the birds all was silent in the Sherwood woods.
I breathed in the sweet scents of birch, pine, oak and chestnut. I flicked my forked tongue out a bit to taste the ancient forest and heard a small gasp from my right. Turning I see a small red haired boy no older than 10. I smile softly at him and motion for him to walk beside me. He held back at first but then came to my side and whispered, “Your not gonna eat me right?”
I burst out laughing and my laughter rang through the forest. Archers men glanced at me then looked away. I looked down at the young boy, “No I’m not. Do I look like a beast to you?”
“Well...no but...you tongue.” He said pointing at my face.
Chuckling I reach down to stroke the hair out of the boy's face but he shied away. Just before though I caught a glimpse of sparkling silver. Frowning I reached out, again and again, he shied away from me. Sighing I straighten back up and continue walking alongside Aslan. The boy continued beside me and as we walked he kept glancing at Aslan with an amazed look on his face. I smiled softly and asked, “Would you like to ride him?”
The boy gasped and then nodded his head vigorously, “Yes please! I’ve never seen a horse so pretty.”
“Yes, he is quite a sight. Now come here I’ll help you up.”
He came closer and easily picked him up and put him on Aslan’s saddle. He grinned excitedly and giggled as Aslan moved under him with strong legs. I smiled as I kept pace beside them and out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of movement. A glimpse of grey fur, white fangs and glowing yellow eye were all that I needed to call quickly over my shoulder at the boys, “Hey do you have wolves here?”
Archer glanced over my way a quizzical look in his eyes, “Only a few and they are on the north side of the forest, nowhere near the town and its people.”
“Ok thanks.”
“Why did you want to know?”
“Oh, I just wondered, oh and by the way how much longer?”
“Not that long, see,” Archer pointed up and at the top of a ravine, “Just over that and you will see the hideout of use outlaws.”
