Loser League

Got an Advil (Part three)

Got an Advil (Part three)

Nov 23, 2019

“Excuse me.” Connie muttered quietly, holding a black briefcase tightly against his chest as he ran through the crowded sidewalk, bumping lightly into the walking pedestrians.

He could see the yellow tape came into view, and he could see his boss there as well. Bad thoughts rushed his head, as they always did when he was late to his job.

It went two ways when it came to bad thoughts whenever he was late, first. If everybody took the donuts he really likes, and second, if he gets fired. He should be more concerned about getting fired instead of worrying about donuts, but sometimes he can’t help it.

“I’m here, I’m here!” Connie panted, lifted the yellow tape to enter the crime scene. His call out made the chief turn his head towards his direction and that of his partner. No doubt his partner was trying to give up some excuse about him being late this time.

Last time his partner gave an excuse to the chief it was him going to his girlfriend’s house, which the chief knew that was a lie because he knew that Connie didn’t date anybody and who would.

“Connie, glad to see you here. Clyde was just telling me that you were in the hospital.” The chief’s voice was like grated sandpaper, something so annoying you just want it to stop.

Connie nodded, adjusting his scarf to cover his nose. Yes, he knew he was out of his costume but sometimes it’s hard to get out of habits, covering the lower half of his face just became a habit he can’t seem to shake.

“Y-Yes sir, I got...Mugged this morning.” Connie lied, putting the suitcase on the ground and walking next to Clyde, who was already walking towards the entrance of the bank, with a stuffed walk.

Elbowing Clyde in the side Connie harshly whispered to him, even though they were a distance away from the chief he didn’t want to take any chances. “Really? The hospital?”

“What do you expect me to say? Did you actually get mugged?” Connie gave a side glance at Clyde, whose face was filled with curiosity and a concerning look in his eye. Connie cursed at himself silently, roughly looking at the ground.

He forgot about his bruises, how could he forget them? A punch from Jinx hurts like hell, he no doubt had a purple welt on his temple, and other small cuts and bruises from the damage and debris the Bass cannon created.

“No, my neighbor’s cat attacked me this morning, little shit.” Well, Connie didn’t have to lie. He did sometimes come into work with a few scratch marks from his neighbors’ crazy cat.

“Again? Jeez,” Clyde’s voice held a playful tone, making Connie smile slightly. “Oh yeah, so you want details or just a simple one this time?”

“Details? And are they still here?” Connie looked up and saw the giant hole that was once the entrance of the Maplewoods bank, news reporters trying to break into the scene to get the best shot for their shitty news shows.

“Yeah, we should be able to ask them questions. Anyways,” Clyde avoided all the debris on the ground, Connie following behind him, keeping his eyes glued to Clyde’s uniform. “The League held four hostages, slow day at the bank if you ask me. Anyways, only three of them showed up today. Conrad was seen walking out of the bank from the back.”

“Really? I thought nobody could see him.” Connie jokes, chuckling from his own joke.

Clyde gave him a sarcastic laugh, stopping to let Connie see the entrance, up close and personal. “Well yeah, you know what I mean. Oh! And from what reports are telling us is that Bassdrop and Busal were there as well, and they used a weird sonic boom to escape the heroes.” Clyde pointed at the giant wall in the bank for an emphasis.

“Bass cannon.” Connie blurted out loud, tensing when he saw Clyde shoot him a curious glance.

Stuttering over his words to catch himself he gave Clyde this: “I-I mean it makes sense! Like, in order, from what information we have on Bassdrop. For Bassdrop to create such intense sonic boom, he would have to find the lowest bass point in his music and bring his music to full volume, and in that way, he could have created this sonic boom…”

Connie offered a confused, but smart look to Clyde. Only to which Clyde thinks about it, then suddenly agree with Connie. “Of course! It makes sense, because of how much force is being placed, it forces it to move somewhere else! I think!”

Connie nodded, holding in the relieved sigh he cleared his throat. “So… You going to get the heroes?”

Clyde giggled, clasping Connie’s shoulder, Connie died inside a little, trying his damndest not to flinch from the sudden flare of pain. “You have to get over fearing the heroes, their just like us. Except I’m pretty sure they can kill us easily.”

Connie glared at Clyde, he knew that Clyde was just trying to make a joke but sometimes he just doesn’t know when to shut up. “Whatever let’s just go to them already. I don’t want the reporters there when I’m trying to ask them stuff. They could tamper with the scene you know?”

Clyde sighed but let go of Connie, already heading inside of the building. Meanwhile Connie stayed a bit behind. Even as his secret identity he was always near the heroes, something he hates with a burning passion.

He was a Crime scene investigator, meaning he could check the scene before anybody else. Something as a back up to his partner, the actual detective. He got the job to make sure that his crew didn’t leave anything behind, from anything to clothing, blood, or even equipment.

Being a pig as his secret identity didn’t bode well with his villain side, but sometimes he must make sacrifices. Even if his sacrifices are wasted on a hardly compatible team.

With a sigh he made his way into the bank, spotting the buzzed cut of his partner. Walking over he saw that Clyde was talking to the group of heroes, and it seemed like the whole group was there, he saw Sensor standing behind the group.

Sensor sometimes scared Connie, it wasn’t because of his clothing or his skills; it was because of his power. He had the power to detect and recognize other people’s powers, and he can put the powers into levels. He never had the heart to read Connie’s team’s powers, which he shouldn’t be happy for but never the least he was, considering that the man could just scan him right now. He could spoil to the whole police academy that he had powers, and they would send him to a power school or worse. Convince him to be a hero.

And another thing that worried Connie, is that Sensor might be able to tell what Connie’s power was. Connie knew what his power was, that’s why he put the muzzle on, never made eye contact with anybody when he talked, covered his mouth with anything he could get his hands on.

Connie knew his power was meant for him to be evil, how else could you explain? If he was a hero, they would never trust him ever. Connie experience his full power and never had he been so scared of himself until that moment, since then he’s never used his powers.

“Connie? You good?” Clyde’s voice rang concern and something deeper. Connie shook his head to get rid of the negative thoughts, realizing that he was breathing hard. Slowing his breath, he gave Clyde a thumbs up, somehow the detective made his way over to Connie to stand in front of him.

“You sure? We don’t have to talk to the heroes if you don’t want to? You can stay outside an-”

“No, no. I-I’m good, let’s just ask them questions then check the scene.” Connie, as hard as he could, tried to bring a reassuring tone to his voice. Clyde gave him a glance over before sighing.

“Fine, but if you start breathing like that again you will go to a hospital.” Clyde assured Connie with a wink, Connie rolled his eyes. Walking past him, Connie couldn’t help the light glare as he saw the heroes in their little group.

With middle fingers raised high and their dignity long gone, this group of Villains decided they are going to attempt the impossible.

With heroes, other Villains, police, and even regular people making fun of your Villain group it's kinda hard not to try and do something about it.

Will they survive each other long enough to take over the city? Will, they accomplish what others said was impossible? Or will they crash and burn before they even attempt anything?
