Thermogenesis (The Sub-sequent Fate #2)

Business as usual

Business as usual

Oct 18, 2019

At EveryDyne, employees were preparing for the winter holiday. Jezzi, Doug, and Callum were taking extra shifts, due to their missing co-workers. CJ had messaged them when possible, but Noelle was practically missing. Doug was telling them about his unfortunate incident at the Diner with CJ.

"So these guys, they really shot you?" Jezzi asked

"Yeah, honey. CJ was there, but she saved my life--I-I think." He showed them the gunshot wound.

"What happened after that?" Callum asked

"Huh, I don't remember." Doug expressed. "I was unconscious."

"What? What do you--? How could you NOT remember?" Callum pressed

"'Cause I LOST a lot of blood--I was weak, and went to SLEEP."

"You said CJ saved you--how?" She asked

"I was asleep in her arms, I think. But she wasn't there when I woke up at home."

"At home? She brought you home?" She inquired

"Yeah, she came to see me the next day."

"How's your mum? What does she think of all this?"

"Yeah, she must've been really upset." Jezzi added

"I woke up at home. I asked her what happened, but she was so strange."

"What do you mean?"

"She was like a robot or something. She said 'CJ Dixon bought you home, and what matters is that you're safe.'"

"That is strange." Callum added

Pamela shot them warning expressions, and they went back to work.

"So, my parents are takin' a summer vacay. We're goin' to Chadwicke. I have 1 transfer ticket left, anyone interested?" Jezzi asked

"Sorry, hun I'm browsing for colleges. Never too early to start." Doug replied

"Oh, okay. Callum, there's a lot to do there. A-And you won't be bored." She pressed

"I know that, Jez. I was born there, remember?" He smirked.

"Oh! R-right, I forgot. You don't have to give me an answer right now....I was just--" Callum touched her shoulder.

"I've got no plans anyway. So a trip back home, sounds nice." He said

"Um...cool! I'll um, tell my folks." She said and headed to the back room.

Doug and Callum continued with the winter decorations.

"I wanna do somethin' nice for CJ, as a thank you."

"Sounds good. Junior Gala's comin' up." Callum added

"Yeah, I know. But what should I do for her?"

"Hmm..." They thought in unison

Doug noticed two customers holding hands. "Brilliant! I'll be her date for the Gala."

"Hmm...that could work. You might want to let HER know though." Callum stated

"Obviously!" Doug pulled out his HC and left a message.
