"Elise, I know this isn't easy, but that man was just trying to help you with that box. It was very heavy." Her father chastised.
Elise nodded, and tried to explain, "Yes Papa. But, he implied I was weak, delicate he called me. Like I can't take care of myself. And that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I know it may have been petty of me, that that guy couldn’t have realized I’d be offended, and he might have simply been trying to be nice and helpful... I’m sorry Papa. It’s... it’s just... "
"I know. It's only been a few months since your mother died, and everything started going south from there. But I know this move is the best thing for us, a start of a new life. It's what your mother would want, for us to start over and move on."
"I'll try Papa. I'm going to start putting things away." Elise took the box and began unpacking all of the books she had acquired. They had been her mother’s books really. But… her mother was gone now. “These books were in that box. They were all I had left of mother. She loved to read and I can still remember how she would lift me onto her lap and read to me when I was just a little girl. Her voice would take on those of the characters and take me into a world of enchantment.”
