The scene starts with an aerial view of the village.
We now see Zaire and Elijah walking on a crowded street.
Elijah: I don’t understand why your mom sent us this far for milk.
Zaire: Come to think of it, there are small shops near my house.
Elijah: Exactly.
There is a small moment of silence….
Zaire: Oh Elijah!
Elijah: What?
Zaire: Did I tell you about the sword my dad left for me?
Elijah: Don’t recall anything about a sword...
Zaire: It belonged to my dad’s father, then my dad got it, and now it belongs to me.
Elijah: Sounds interesting, you should show me it.
Zaire: It's back at my house...
Elijah: Oh..okay.
Zaire and Elijah don’t make much conversation after this. After a few more minutes of walking they finally reach the small shop, the shop sells many goods, but is famous for the milk that it sells for cheap prices, this still doesn’t explain why Zaire’s mom would send him this far, because they’ve never really worried about money.
Zaire: I’ll have two cartons of milk, please.
We see the man behind the counter, hand him the two cartons, in exchange for Zaire’s money.
Zaire and Elijah now make their way back.
Elijah: My house is coming up, so I’ll go straight home.
Zaire: Sounds like a plan!
Elijah: Oh..and the sword….show me it tomorrow?
Zaire: Uh yeah, just stop by my house.
Elijah turns to the right, leaving Zaire alone.
Zaire walks for another ten minutes and reaches his front door.
Zaire opens the door and steps in.
Zaire: Moooom? Are you home?
No answer
Zaire: I got the milk! Mom?
No answer
Zaire: Mom?
No answer………….
Zaire walks down the hallway, right into the main room.
Blood..lots of blood..his mom is stabbed..with the sword his father had left for him..who? why? Questions remain unanswered.
Bruises... Too many bruises...
Zaire bends down, his pants now drenched in the blood of his mother, he shakes her, why he does such a thing..he doesn’t know.
Zaire: Mom, please...
The locket around Zaire’s neck glows, the sword is pulled out of his mom by an invisible force.
Confusion, Greif, Anger.
What should he feel?
The sword which is now seen defying the laws of gravity is, surrounded by red and black particles.
Zaire stands, he turns away from his mother, he is now facing towards the door. Zaire runs!
He doesn’t run because he’s afraid.
He runs because he has lost purpose.
Zaire is seen running throughout the streets of the village, a trail of his mother’s blood follows him, it drips off the bottom of his pants.
He runs into Aella, who tries to stop him, she fails...
Zaire runs and runs.
We see him run into a booth, written on the sign says “Military Sign-up”
The clerk behind the desk is surprised.
Zaire sees the sign-up sheet. To the right of it is a feather, with ink.
He grabs the feather, dips it in ink, and flips through the sheet, he sees numerous names, he opens the Bestia Division section… it's blank.
Zaire signs away his name, life, pride, dignity, and purpose.
Clerk: The carriage to the training camp, leaves tonight.
Zaire nods and turns away.
Out of breath, and his back to the clerk, Zaire says…...
Zaire: I’m the only name....under the Bestia Division..?
Clerk: It seems you are.
Zaire loses his balance and falls to the ground and cries. Emotions come flooding in,
He hadn’t cried when his Dad died. So he cried.
Zaire didn’t cry when he first saw his mom, surrounded by a pool of blood.
So he cried.
Zaire cried because he felt lost.
Zaire didn’t know life beyond his family and friends, but after signing his name down on that sheet, he had dedicated his life for…
….the eradication of these terrifying demons.
The eradication of the Afreets!
End of Chapter.
