Chapter 9: Drained Dry

Chapter 9: Drained Dry

Oct 20, 2019

"You took it too far!" Bex screamed at Joan.

"It was an accident." Joan defended herself.

"I don't believe you!"

"Bex,"

"No! Lyssa, come on, get up." Bex crouched next to Lyssa who was crumbled on the floor in pain.

"Does that mean class is officially over? My mom needs me back home." Mike said.

"Holy shit, that was awesome!" Dean said.

Bex glared at him.

"Class dismissed." Joan sighed.

"My mom's coming to get me, she can take you home too," Jaden said to Mike.

Mike smiled at him.

"Dude did you see how far she flew!? That was crazy!" Will said.

"I can't wait till we can to do that," Tyler said.

Lyssa grunted as Bex helped her up.

"Easy Lyssa," Bex draped Lyssa's arm over her shoulder.

Lyssa coughed and rust-colored blood spewed from her lips. Bex's eyes watered and she stared worriedly at Lyssa. Joan huffed and draped Lyssa's other arm over her shoulder. Lyssa and Bex looked at her.

"Come on, I'll take you home." She said.

"What about those three," Bex said.

"Oh don't worry about us. Will's Dad is coming to get us." Dean said.

Bex sighed.

Joan and Bex hauled Lyssa outside to the truck.

"I'm sorry, it really was an accident." She said.

"I'll kill you Slayer," Lyssa spat.

"Stop it, you're not killing anything anytime soon." Bex chastised.

Lyssa gave a huff of protest.

A few minutes earlier Joan had been trying to get the boys to do the repel test. Lyssa was a test dummy being as when Dean tried it out on her she had only been repelled an inch. Amused that there was different levels of faith and power levels that could repel her Lyssa continued to be the test dummy just for her own amusement. But when Joan had got frustrated trying to show Tyler how it was done she had shouted the chant at the top of her lungs and outstretched her hand, she hadn't meant to touch Lyssa but she did. Launching the girl across the gym.

Thus, their current situation.

Lyssa went from playfully teasing the new slayers for her own amusement to being hurt on the ground, for their amusement.

"You'll have to drink from me when you get home," Bex said to Lyssa as Joan drove to Lyssa's house.

"No Rebecca,"

"Yes! It's not a discussion. Besides the last time, you drank from me was Saturday, so enough time has passed."

Lyssa sighed.

Joan clenched the steering wheel and remained silent.

"Let me share your pain." Bex insisted.

"No."

"Lyssa."

"No my love, no."

"Lyssa," Bex warned.

"Stubborn as a mule," Lyssa grumbled.

"Hey! Did you just call me a Donkey!?"

Joan and Lyssa laughed.

"What?"

"A mule is not a Donkey," Lyssa said.

"Wait then what is it?"

"It's when a horse and a donkey have a baby." Joan supplied.

"Oh, wait, weird. I want to see a picture before I decide if I'm offended." Bex said.

Joan and Lyssa chuckled again.

Joan felt guilty, she glanced at Lyssa who was staring at her. She did her best to look apologetic, but she couldn't deny putting Lyssa on her ass on some level felt really good. She couldn't be sure but she felt Lyssa could sense that. Lyssa glared at her. She sighed.

"Wait, it kind of just looks like a bigger Donkey," Bex said looking up Mule on her phone.

"Are you offended?" Lyssa teased.

"Hmm... not really, it's kind of cute." Bex shrugged.

Lyssa smiled at her and kissed her cheek.

"Stop distracting me, share the pain," Bex said.

Lyssa sighed but did as she was told, sharing her pain through their bond. Bex hissed and clutched at her stomach. Lyssa sighed in relief when it wasn't so bad.

The thing about being struck by a faith blast, as Lyssa liked to call it, is that the pain lingered. Like a bad stomach bug, or a large bruise on her bones. It radiated inside of her for a few hours and weakened her.

"You okay?" Lyssa asked Bex.

"Yep, all good," Bex grunted as she held out a thumbs up.

Lyssa grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers. Bex smiled at her and Lyssa rested her head on Bex's shoulder. Joan focused on the road, biting her cheek to keep her thoughts in check. She knew that if she wasn't so careless, she wouldn't even be in this situation.

When they got to the house they helped Lyssa out of the truck and into the house. They went to the living room area and sat on the couch.

"Okay I'm ready," Bex tilted her head.

Lyssa looked at Joan expectantly.

"Oh, I'm not leaving her here alone. After you've fed you'll need to rest, so I'll take her home. It's on my way anyway." She said.

Lyssa glared at her.

Bex swatted at her for something she had heard in Lyssa's thoughts.

Joan rolled her eyes.

"At least go wait over there." Lyssa pointed to the foyer.

Joan sighed and stomped off to be by the front door, she could still see Lyssa and Bex, it was obscured by the wall and the couch but she could still see. She watched them casually, trying to make it seem as if she wasn't paying them attention.

"Drink a lot," Bex said.

"No."

"Can we just skip to the part where you listen to me?"

Lyssa sighed.

"Please Lyssa, it's okay. Drink until you are full. I can take it. Plus, Joan will take me home."

"Fine, just tell me if it's too much."

"I will." Bex moved closer to her and took off her silver sword necklace before sticking it in her pocket.

Lyssa tilted her head and sunk her fangs into Bex. Bex let out a sharp gasp before a shiver of pleasure ran through her.

Joan craned her neck to get a better look at what was going on.

"Mmm, Lyssa." Bex moaned, closing her eyes.

Lyssa took in large greedy gulps. She was famished and she took this as her chance to finally get her fill. She held Bex close to her, her arms wrapped tightly around Rebecca as if Bex would try to escape at any moment. Bex ran her hands across Lyssa's shoulders and enjoyed the experience.

Joan watched and shifted from foot to foot uncomfortably. She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and tried to ignore the sick feeling in her stomach. Her eyes darted anywhere but at the two before she could distract herself no more and looked back. Her breath caught as Bex's hand went limp to her side. A bolt of fear ran through her. Still, Lyssa drank.

"Stop it!" Joan walked back into the room.

Lyssa ignored her and drank, after all, it was her Rebecca. Her blood slave to drain dry as she pleased.

"Stop it! Get off of her!" Joan tugged on Lyssa.

Lyssa snapped out of it and pried herself off, taking in deep breaths to try and get control of herself. Bex fell limp to the couch.

"What the hell!?" Joan shouted at her.

Lyssa stared wide-eyed at Bex, she had almost lost control. She had almost killed her. If Joan hadn't stopped her. She would have. Lyssa suddenly felt ill. She covered her mouth and stared in horror at what she had done.

"What is wrong with you!?" Joan shouted at her.

Lyssa looked away from Bex, her eyes watered over.

"Answer me!" Joan demanded.

"It was an accident." Lyssa's voice was small and weak sounding.

"An accident? You almost killed her!"

Lyssa shook her head no and clutched her stomach.

"Yes you did, I saw you. Christ, it's a good fucking thing I stayed. You're nothing but a monster! Can't you control yourself?"

"Shut up! It was an accident, I shall be more careful next time."

"Next time? What the hell makes you think there will be a next time after this?" Joan spat at her.

Lyssa stood up and straightened her back to seem confident.

"You can't stop me. It was an accident, accidents happen. You should know all about that Slayer."

"We are not the same." Joan got in her face.

"I will get control of myself, that is a promise I can make. I have been working on it since Rebecca and I got together. The last thing I want to do it hurt her. So if it makes you feel better you can watch every feeding." Lyssa said.

Joan eyed her and deflated a bit, she had expected Lyssa to get mad. Instead, the vampire seemed to shrink in on herself. Her eyes stared at the ground and she looked conflicted, almost guilty. She was being serious. She was scared.

"What are you going to do when you accidentally kill her?" Joan asked.

Lyssa looked up at her.

"You know as well as I do where this road leads. Humans and Vampires don't mix. You will kill her, you and I both know it. If not from feeding too much, then by getting her in the middle of all of your mess. I only go along with this because I love her. I love her with all my heart and if she loves you then I have to let her because I don't ever want to break her heart by killing you. So my hands are tied. One day I won't be here then what will you do? What will you say to her family when she doesn't come home? What lie will you tell me, Lyssa?" Joan's eyes were watered over and she was on the verge of tears.

"I won't..." Lyssa whimpered.

"You will, you know you will."

"No." Lyssa hugged herself and wrapped her arms around herself.

"The only way you can save her is if you leave her alone and you know it. She's going to grow up Lyssa. She'll graduate high school and go to college, what will you do then? You and I both know this can't go on forever. How long until you do the right thing, what if you do it too late? The longer you let this drag on, the higher the chances are that she will die before she even graduates high school. She's just a human, she can't keep up with you."

"I love her." Lyssa's voice shook.

"You'll love her to her grave. And when that day comes, you bet your ass I'll be waiting for you and peace will be over. I'll kill you. I'll hunt you for the rest of my life if I have to."

Lyssa put a hand on Joan's shoulder, "If I kill her, I give you full permission to kill me. In fact, I want it to be you. If I kill her, I'll deserve everything that comes to me. Promise me, you'll do it. Promise me that when and if that day comes it will be you."

"I don't have to promise because it will be me. I swear it. I'll kill you."

"I know you must hate me, but it means a lot to me that you care so much about Rebecca. If I can't protect her I know I can rely on you. I won't lose control again. I promise. I love her too much to ever put her danger like this ever again. I'll starve myself if I have to."

Joan sighed.

"I'll tolerate you for now, but slip up again and I swear."

Lyssa nodded and removed her hand.

They both turned to Bex who was still passed out on the couch. Lyssa walked over to her and brushed her hair from her face.

"Forgive me, Rebecca." Lyssa whimpered.

"Go get her something to eat, I'll watch over her," Joan said.

Lyssa nodded and was gone in an instant.

"Ugh," Bex sat up with great effort.

"Easy." Joan rubbed her back.

"What happened?" Bex's eyes searched for Lyssa.

"She lost control and nearly killed you that's what happened. Lucky I was here. Are you okay?" Joan asked.

"Yeah I think so," Bex tried to stand but got dizzy and nearly fell over, Joan pulled her back down to the couch.

"Don't she drained you dry, one wrong move and you'll be in the hospital," Joan warned.

"Where is she?" Bex asked.

"She went to get you something to eat."

"Ugh, stupid vampire." Bex pouted.

"Bex... maybe you should break up with her," Joan said gently.

Bex glared at her.

Joan sighed.

"Don't start with me, I'm sure it was an accident. Besides I'm fine. It's my fault I should have stopped her but it just felt so good. Lyssa was just overwhelmed; I am sure it was a one-time thing."

"If only you could see what I see," she sighed. "You scare the life out of me every day you let this go on. Some days I wake up screaming sure that you're dead. Bex, just... be safe." She grabbed Bex's hand and kissed it lightly.

Bex eyed Joan, guilt filling her.

"She won't hurt me." Bex withdrew her hand.

"I wish Lyssa and I were as sure as you," Joan mumbled.

"Just trust me." Bex gave her a warm smile and grabbed Joan's hand in hers.

Joan's heart skipped a beat and took a deep breath to get her emotions in check.

Lyssa came back with Bex's favorite and apologized profusely as Bex stuffed her face. Then Joan drove her home and walked her to her room.

Bex's mom was about to get after her for ignoring her calls and spending too much time with Lyssa when her eyes met Joan's. Joan waved sheepishly before her and Bex went upstairs. Her argument left her mind and she smiled. Joan was okay, she had always liked the girl. As long as Bex was with Joan she wouldn't be up to nonsense with Lyssa and that made her feel better.

Still, she was tired of being ignored by her daughter and she was determined to get the bottom of it. She was going to take Bex out for a Mom and Daughter day. She was going to lay down the law whether Rebecca liked it or not.

She took a deep breath and began to walk upstairs to face her daughter.

"See ya tomorrow," Joan called as she walked out of the room.

She smiled at Joan.

"Bye Mrs. Cross." Joan walked down the stairs.

"Get home safe." She called after her before turning to Bex's room.

Before she could say or do anything, Bex slammed her door closed and locked it. She couldn't help but take it personally and was about to knock on the door and demand her daughter's attention when she just couldn't do it. She felt hurt and she hated that Bex was icing her out, but she knew if she approached her daughter like this her emotions would get the better of her.

With a pathetic sigh, her hand fell to her side and she walked to her room, getting into her bed and staring at the wall. Her husband wrapped his arms around her and comforted her.

She was going to get to the bottom of this, not just for her daughter, but for her own peace of mind.

I am starting to get the feeling that Bex's mom is gonna end up being a HUGE obstacle for their relationship.
