Chapter 10: A little lie (part two)

Chapter 10: A little lie (part two)

Oct 24, 2019

Bex's mom heard the door slam and her eye twitched. She was about to march up the stairs when her husband put his hand on her shoulder.

"Easy Phoebe, give the girl some space. She's young, let her enjoy it," he said.

"Space! I've been giving her space! She's blatantly ignoring me now! She ignores my calls, she doesn't come home for dinner, she stays out all hours of the day doing god knows what. She bulldozed over me this morning and barely acknowledged me. Am I really overreacting? Nathan was not like this, she is being rebellious, she's acting out. As her mother, I have a right to lay down the law. She hasn't even done a single game-night Sunday with us since the mugging, all she does is go over to Lyssa's house. Lyssa this, and Lyssa that. Lyssa, Lyssa, Lyssa! I can't take it anymore!" she exploded.

"Down girl, just try to see things her way. You go in there breathing fire what do you honestly think our daughter will do? She'll act out, she'll just cling tighter to Lyssa. You should know that you were the same way when your mother tried to stop you from seeing me. Lyssa is our daughter's first love, let the girl enjoy it. It will pass, it always does. Eventually, she will see what Lyssa is doing to her, how she is separating her from her family and she will leave her. There will be a second love and a third love, this is just our first test with her. How we react to this will shape how she sees us for the rest of her teen years. If we come in hot, she'll get really cold. We have to play this right. I have a suggestion that could work out for you."

"What Jeffery, what is it? If you belittle me I swear."

"Take her on a little mother-daughter bonding trip, really connect with her. Let her open up to you about Lyssa. Let her tell you how she sees things, get a good idea about her stance and why she loves the girl so much. Then let her know how you feel, remind her she can still talk to you, remind her you still support her 100%. Show her that even though she may be a teen, she still needs her momma. She'll be back to her old self in no time. Promise."

Bex's mom eyed him before sighing in defeat.

"Fine." She muttered.

"Put the claws away beautiful, our daughter is in love. We can get through this. Promise." He wrapped his arms around her.

She relaxed into him and took a calming breath.

"For your mother-daughter excursion you can go Christmas shopping. We need lots of new decorations this year, including a giant snow globe."

"I said no to the snow globe." She pinched him in the arm.

"Oh come on, we haven't had one yet and the Hoffman's already have one!"

"No snow globe." She pulled free of his grasp.

"But beautiful," he whined.

"No." she tried to stifle her laugh.

"Why you, I'll change your mind yet." He poked her in the side to tickle her.

"Stop it!" she swatted at him and laughed.

"I'm gonna getcha," he tickled her and chased her as she ran to the kitchen for cover.

"Jeff!" she shrieked out in laughter.

"Ew our parents are flirting," Abby said from the stairway, where Nathan stood behind her. The siblings were both coming to check what was for dinner.

"Retreat, retreat." He ran back upstairs.

Abby shuddered and also ran back to her room.

In her room, Bex laid in her bed cuddled up next to Lyssa. Her fingers ran through Lyssa's hair slowly and melodically. Lyssa rested her head on Bex's chest, listening to her heartbeat. Both girls stared blankly into space.

"I'm sorry," Lyssa said.

"Apologize one more time and I'll... I don't know, but I will."

"I almost killed you, my love, what I did was unforgivable."

"Stop it. You are being dramatic, I'm fine. See. Here we are. I forgive you, you stupid vampire. Just let me enjoy this moment."

"What have I done to deserve you..."

"Stop talking like that, I hate that." Bex stopped running her fingers through Lyssa's hair.

"I felt like I was falling down a dark endless tunnel before you. Then I saw a light, a tiny light and I turned away from it. I wanted to fall into the darkness, I wanted nothing more than to rot the rest of my life away. Before you had cut your hand, it had been months since I had eaten a real meal. That's why the throbbing was so bad. That's why I couldn't resist you. But you... you did something, you wouldn't let me just die. You shinned so bright that I had no choice but to look at you. You saved me. What I did, I almost put that light out. I don't know what I would do without you. Without your light, I'll just die. I need you, Rebecca. With all of my being, I need you. You are more than just a blood slave to me, more than a friend. You are my heart, you are my warmth, you are my everything. Don't ever leave me, I won't be able to take it."

"Oh Lyssa, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. Promise. Now stop being dramatic and let me cuddle you." Bex wrapped her arms around Lyssa.

"What are we going to do?" Lyssa asked.

"What do you mean?"

"You'll age, you're fragile, you have family obligations and relations. What if you die? What if you get too old?"

"Why are you bringing this up?" Bex sat up and forced Lyssa to sit up too.

"Because I love you and I need you to see that this is not something I take lightly. I think about this all the time, that's why I hide my thoughts from you because I don't want to alarm you."

"Lyssa... I don't want to talk about this right now. I mean we've only been dating a couple of months. When we get to the year mark, then we can talk about it."

"What if you don't make it that far!"

"What are you saying?"

"I'm saying what if I get you killed!? What if I have the chance to turn you, would you want something like that?"

"Lyssa slow down. Turn me? You said you would never do that again."

"I would, for you."

"Okay, now you are freaking me out."

"This is serious to me Rebecca! I love you. I need you. If you are dying and I can change you, would you want that? Would you be willing to spend eternity with me?"

"Just stop! I don't want to think about this. Stop it! I'm not going to die okay."

"You don't know that!"

"I think you should go."

"Rebecca please, just answer me, for my own peace of mind."

"When you die, you die. There isn't supposed to be vampires and ghost and everything else! I just can't think about this right now. I can't. I am barely getting through this one day at a time. You're smothering me again and you know how I feel about that."

"Just answer the question."

"Lyssa get out!" Bex stood up.

"I don't mean to frighten you."

"I can't hear this right now." Bex stormed out of the room.

"Please Rebecca." Lyssa followed after her.

"No! Just stop." Bex ran down the stairs.

Lyssa sighed and followed after her.

"Do you even think about what you say before you say it? You are so unbelievable sometimes." Bex shook her head.

"Just listen to me, please Rebecca." Lyssa caught her arm.

"Go home Lyssa," Bex opened the front door.

"I'm sorry... I will reframe from this topic in the future." She grabbed Bex's hands in hers. "I just worry is all. I will let you cool off. I shall see you tomorrow my love." She kissed Bex's on the cheek.

"You are so stupid." Bex's eyes watered, she was mad but more than that she was terrified. She didn't want to think about the imminent possibility of her death.

Lyssa tried to lean in for a real kiss but Bex turned her head away. Lyssa sighed and dropped Bex's hand, hanging her head low as she walked out of the house. Bex slammed the door behind her.

"Everything okay Sweetie?" Bex's mom asked softly from the kitchen, where her father stood next to her.

"I'm fine." Bex lied.

She wiped a tear that spilled over before storming upstairs and slamming the door to her room.

Her parents shared a look, her dad's was a look of concern while her mother simply just raised an eyebrow.

Joan yawned as she walked to her room, she stopped when she caught sight of her brother packing up a slayer kit.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Nothing, just in case. You can never be too cautious." He said without looking at her.

She narrowed her eyes but shook her head before walking to her room. Her brother watched after her and eyed her as she closed the door to her room. Once she was gone he grabbed a silver knife and put it in the holster on his waist.

"Okay, I'm ready." He said to his dad who also had a similar-looking case in his hands.

"Come on." They left the house.

They got in the family van and drove over to Dean's house.

"Are you sure you know where the vampire lives?" Ryland asked him.

"Oh we do, we followed them. I got my dad to follow them." He assured them.

"Can we come!" Will begged.

"Please." Tyler pleaded.

Ryland looked at his dad and shrugged.

"Well okay, but you stay back. I don't want you three getting hurt if this gets ugly."

"Alride!" Dean whooped.

"Take care of the boys Norman." Dean's Dad said.

He nodded his head.

"Are you sure about this? Won't Joan get mad?" Ryland pointed out.

"What she doesn't know, won't hurt her. She'll thank us later." Norman said.

With that they loaded up the van, setting out for their mission.

I believe that the next victim on Joan's list is her family. Just saying...
