“Of course not!” I leaped up from the chair latching onto the boy’s shoulders as I shook my head at the thought, “There’s no way I see you in that way!” My body shivered as I pulled him closer to me making sure our glances were locked together, “I like you because who you are not because of what you look like or what you are!” I declared hardly giving my companion a chance to respond to my frantic ramblings, “I don’t care how anyone else views me. I just want to stay by your side.” I took the catboy’s hand in mine gingerly.
“Hmm…” Starburst chuckled leaning into me, “Okay… Okay…” He gave me a light, defensive body movement, “I didn’t mean to catch you off guard like that. I get it. You don’t mean me, or anyone else, any harm.” I gave him a wary look as we pulled away from one another, “Don’t look at me like that. Just relax… Let’s finish this episode, okay?” I nodded with a gruff sigh as I plopped back down, “Don’t be so moody either… I gave you today off, didn’t I?”
“Yes sir…!”
. . .
“I thought you’d be nicer to me after yesterday…” I muttered harshly leaning on the dining room table as Starburst poured me my evening coffee, “Am I wrong to think that maybe you are getting fonder of me?”
“What’re you going on about?” One of the cat’s ears twitched as he pulled a packet of blood from the fridge, “I just didn’t want you to be upset.” He shook his head as he set down a plate of salmon and sat in front of it, “You certainly have a lot of mood swings when things don’t go your way.”
“You like salmon?” I asked curiously all my other concerns instantly forgotten, “I would’ve made sure I had some in the house had I known you liked it…”
“You don’t have to worry about my meals.” Starburst sighed picking at the fish on his plate, “I can take care of myself perfectly fine, unlike a certain vampire…”
“Hmm…” I hummed to myself not paying much mind to the catboy’s words, “We could go shopping together and buy some!”
“Do you even hear yourself?” He came back with a curt shake of his head, “We both slacked off yesterday, don’t you think we ought to get some work done today?” I stared at him blankly, “Why do I even try to talk logic with you? What’s the point of your job if you never want to do it?”
“I can’t write unless I’m inspired.” I put in crossing my arms as I finished my meal and coffee, “Besides, how can I focus on work when you were so sweet yesterday?”
“Get to work already.” The ginger-haired boy glared as he put his plate in the sink and started cleaning up, “You better be up there working when I go to check on you…!”
. . .
I sighed typing at my computer. After our conversation yesterday and the one this morning, how could I possibly focus, “I guess I don’t really know that much about, Star, hmm?” I hummed to myself as I started to spin around in the office chair completely losing concentration, “I know he goes to university and he lives in a low-income apartment, but what else? I know that he’s been working for me for over a year now and as of today that he likes salmon. That should’ve been obvious given that he’s a cat though…”
Starburst gave a huff as he entered the office tapping his foot at me impatiently, “Just what are you getting up to now?” He placed a hand on the back of the chair bringing my movement to a halt, “What’s getting you so worked up now?”
“You.” I replied simply with a frown, “Starburst, why don’t you tell me more about yourself…? I’m curious…!”
“Why do you care about me so much?” He questioned a wave of insecurity passing over his face, “You’re just my employer, right? Anything you feel towards me is because I’m the one you’re around the most. You’ll just get tired of me eventually, so what’s the point?” The cat turned his back to me huffing out another sigh, “Just get your work done on time.”
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have pushed you like that…” I mumbled latching to his shirt before he could leave me to myself again, “I don’t understand why you don’t take my feelings seriously.”
“I shouldn’t even hope that you like me nearly as much as you claim to…” Starburst whispered placing a leery hand on his arm, “Yet for some reason I still do… Why do you think that is, Onyx?”
“Star?” My mouth fell open a bit as I quivered in place completely at a loss for what to say or do, “I um…”
“There.” He said as though he’d won at something, “I told you something about me. Now, get to work will you?”
