“Damn. I never expected this to happen.” The other younger man, whose name was actually Finnian, sighed as he grabbed a handful of popcorn from the bowl between us.
“Yeah. But this is a lot more comfortable.” I nodded.
What was supposed to happen was us having a fun night in bed. Instead, we made out for a while and got tired. So we sat on the couch, turned on Netflix and now we’re watching movies. The current movie we watched was “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” featuring Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio.
“This is a pretty good movie. The Johnny guy is kinda hot.” Finnian smirked.
“Hm. I guess so. Not my type though.” I shrugged.
“Oh? What is your type then?” Finnian looked up at me.
“Hmmm, maybe short Irish boys with dyed hair.” I chuckled.
Finnian hugged me tighter and smiled, “Good. Then I’m the perfect match.”
“Nope. Your ears are too big.” I teased.
Finnian gasped and punched my arm. He mumbled “Shut up.” before burying his face into my shirt.
“It's still cute though.” I rubbed my finger against his arm. It was silent for a little while before he spoke once again.
“Hey, can you...stay? One night. Please.” Finnian asked in a melancholic voice. I looked back down at him. The boy’s eyes were watery and his mouth curled into a frown.
“Of course, Finny. I don’t really mind.” I kissed his forehead lightly.
“Thank you, my love.” Finnian wiped away his tears from his face.
“No problem...my love.” I smiled at the sweet words. I mean, words like that would make anyone smile.
“I love you…” Finnian closed his eyes. A minute after, he was fast asleep.
Realizing this, I lightly stood up from the couch. I picked him up and walked him to his bed. His bedroom was incredibly messy. Piles of clothes covered the floor. I placed Finnian softly onto the bed and tucked him under the covers.
“There. I don’t think it’d be very gentlemanly to get in so I’ll just be on the couch.” I whispered.
Suddenly, my wrist was gripped tightly.
“I asked you to stay. I thought you were going to stay.” Finnian’s voice was soft and sweet like sugar.
“I was going to the couch.”
“Don’t. It’s not very comfortable. Sleep here.” Finnian mumbled.
I sighed and walked to the other side of the bed. I got under the covers and put my arm around Finnian.
“Thank you. I love you.” Finnian cuddled into me.
“Love you too, Finny.”

Finnian wasn’t there when I woke up. The bright sun shined through the apartment windows, momentarily blinding me.
“Finny? Where are you?” I sat up from the bed and rubbed my crusted eyes. Yawning, I got out of the bed and walked into the living room. The TV was still on.
“Finny? Babe?” I called for my...new boyfriend? I couldn’t really tell.
“I'm here, my love.” The Irish boy exclaimed. The voice came from the kitchen. So I walked in and was greeted with a half-naked Finnian cooking. Well, the “pancakes” were burnt. And the toast was like charcoal.
“Wow, all this for me?” I fake gasped.
“Yep! I know I’m not the greatest cook but I thought I should thank you for yesterday.” Finnian flipped the rock that was supposed to be a pancake.
“Aw, you shouldn’t have. Like really. You definitely shouldn’t have.” I teased.
“Shush! Now, sit down. I’ll give you some fruit instead.”
I sat at the kitchen table. Well, actually it was a patio table with one measly lawn chair. It even creaked when I sat down.
“I know. Quaint, isn’t it? But once I repay the big boss man, I’ll earn some more cash and I’ll be out of here! And maybe you can come live with me…” Noticing my state, Finnian placed an apple on the plate in front of me.
“Yeah. So, what is this ‘big boss man’ like? Stereotypical or not?” I asked.
“Stereotypical. But he’s strong. That’s why I started working for him.”
“Yeah, selling yourself off to random guys and girls just so he could earn more money-“
“He saved me, Lars! I helped me when I was down. All I’m doing is paying him back.”
“He’s making pay a 300,000 dollar debt, babe! That’s not just repaying him. That’s just paying him! For absolutely nothing!” I began to lose my temper.
“I need to! I need to pay him! He keeps me safe!”
“I can do better than that bastard could ever do! I can help you, my love. You don’t need some mobsters to keep you safe. Now you have me.”
“But I didn’t have you until yesterday, Lars! Why didn’t you come sooner!? Why did I have to wait so long to meet a guy like you, huh!? Do you have an answer for that, you smartass!?” Finnian yelled. I could see tears beginning to form.
When I was about to speak, I stopped myself. I changed my mind. So, instead, I embraced him as tight as I could. His arms still stuck to his sides. His shoulders were tensed for a good second, but after a minute, he loosened up. And with the slouch, came the tears.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry.” He cried into my black shirt. I held him close for as long as my arms could before they began to ache.
“It’s okay, Finny. Shhh. It’s alright now.” I calmed him down. His sobs quieted down and his eyes were dry from all the tears.
He’s been so tired. It must feel good to cry. So much heartbreak, so much pressure, and anguish. It’s enough for any guy to crumble down like a five-year-old who tripped on a rock in the playground. Even for me.
