"Tae, honey, get up or you'll be late for school"
" Tae...Tae..."
" Mom, I'm up"
I woke up the next day to the sweet scent of my moms cinnamon tea. My mom is everything for me. Every day I wake up with a mantra " I need to survive for her. My existence matters." My mom had to struggle a ton trying to raise me. She's a waitress.
She's only thirty-five years old. She had beautiful almond shaped hazel colored eyes, that had the power to engulf you with a single eye contact. Her thick, wavy long black hair falls down her shoulders and encircles her face. She's breathtakingly beautiful, a Goddess.
My mom was just a mere teenager when she had me. A teenage mom. A single parent. My mom is my euphoria. My life. My everything. My day commences with her and ends with her. She works hard for me and my happiness.
I don't know who my father is. I don't even know his name or if he's alive or dead. Did he leave my mom? Is he innocent? Does he know he has a teenage daughter? Is it because of me?
Questions....Questions...Questions...
My mom never talks about him, but she I see her eyes tearing up every time when someone inquires about him. It's as though she wants to shout his name out loud to the world but can't. Someone or somethings preventing her.
What is it?
Who is it?
Why?
I asked her once about him. She never responded to my question. She said,"I'll tell you everything about him when the time arrives". I asked her whether he abandoned us, to which my mom said,"He's not the villain, Tae, please don't hate him".
I've been searching for answers ever since then but I always end up getting disappointed. It's a dead end every time. I'm an only child. I don't have any relatives or cousins. I don't know anything about my family heritage, about my grandparents or where I'm from, I don't know anything. It's just me and my mom.
"Honey, you mentioned something about a school tour, right? when's the last date to pay the fee"
"Mom, about that, I don't wanna go. I'd rather stay home with you"
"Tae, baby, you need to go. This is the prime time of your life".
I wonder...
What made her smile disappear?
