"What did you do so that they kicked us out?" asked Zira.
Nialeeka didn't answer, and they continued to wait for the brothers. But in her mind, the girl was still in that dark backroom.
Since Camil's body isn't as cold as other bodies after their death, then... Could it be...?
"He's breathing!"
They heard an exclamation from a local physician. Zira was astounded. It's enough to say that Nialeeka also couldn't believe it.
By the time the brothers neared, they were dumbfounded just like Zira. Fortunately, for a happy occasion now. Attyon whispered something to Raden, and he turned away and ran back.
Gershy left the house and sent the girls for fresh food.
By the time they returned, in some miraculous way, the whole street knew that Camil was alive. He may not wake up yet, but he is undoubtedly alive.
Both healers couldn't believe what was happening in front of their eyes. Just as yesterday, both doctors examined an unfortunate boy who died falling off the mast. The cause of death was a cerebral contusion and subsequent bleeding. He was cold, rigour mortis, and there was no reason to doubt his death.
Today, it turns out he is unconscious but still alive.
"I've seen a lot in my life," said the local physician.
"But haven't seen such a thing yet?" Gershy laughed.
"But it's against the laws of nature," he finished grimly.
Standing in the crowd, Nialeeka approached Zira from behind and hugged her, placing her chin on her shoulder. Zira clasped her friend's hands in response.
"How good... He is alive..." Zira muttered.
"Your brothers won't have to assume responsibility for his death," Nialeeka whispered in response.
The girls breathed a sigh of relief. Both of them sincerely rejoiced at Camil's return from the other world.
Although both girls were around nine years old, in the River Valley children matured early. They were smart enough to see the consequences of human actions. If the boy had died, then Raden, Attyon and other people wouldn't have been able to avoid severe punishment.
The girls were sincerely happy that Camil returned from the gates of the afterlife, and that he could continue to live.
Until now, hidden behind the back of the physician and other people, the boy lying on the bed muttered something, opened his eyes, and slightly turned his head toward the crowd.
He looked around at the people around him.
Phelan sighed in relief and smiled, not forgetting to give a slap upside the heads of his two sons. Raden and Attyon became convinced of the veracity of the rumours and rushed to get away as soon as possible. They have had enough of Camil for the next year for sure. As soon as Camille opened his eyes, the physician Gershy immediately began to ask him some questions. At a distance stood Zira and Nialeeka hugged her from behind. A couple of onlookers enthusiastically discussed this event, but they were soon kicked out by the owner of the house. He scattered people who stood outside. Some members of the crew from Silben's ship came, once they heard new rumours. They promised to drink in the evening for the boy's health and promised that if they see him on their ship again, they won't let him off. Only the carpenter who was ordered a coffin for a boy was upset. He was quickly driven off.
While Gershy was bustling around, Camil's gaze glanced over everyone present around him, not stopping at anyone specifically. He didn't show that he recognized anyone.
To Nialeeka, his gaze might have seemed strange, but she decided that after such a terrible trial, the boy wouldn't understand where he was and what happened to him. She did not attach any importance to the oddities.
She hugged Zira tightly from behind and comfortably laid her head on her shoulder.
At the same instant that the boy's gaze fell on them, both girls felt slightly intimidated and at the same time a strange fever, which rapidly intensified. Nialeeka's medallion quickly was heating up.
Nialeeka let go of Zira, stepped back, leaned forward a little so that the hot medallion wouldn't touch her skin and froze for a few moments. To onlookers, it seemed that her head was spinning and she swayed.
"Nialeeka?" Zira began to worry. "How are you? What's the matter?"
The girl grabbed the finely forged chain of her amulet, hoping that no one would notice something with it.
"I... somehow feel bad... You go, I'll sit here somewhere."
Zira nodded and went to her father and brothers.
Nialeeka turned and calmly went to the door, although she was alarmed.
The medallion hot, how could it be?!
How is this possible? It's just a stone. An ordinary stone, albeit beautifully faceted by ancient masters. There is nothing special about it.
Then she realized that it all began with Camil's gaze.
Why, as soon as he looked at us, the stone became hot?!
For the first time in her life, Nialeeka felt fear of the unknown. All these artefacts are not what it seems. They are not that simple at first glance.
The medallion quickly cooled before she even managed to leave the house. She could have thought that the necklace was hot, that she imagines it. But a light burn on her finger convinced her.
But why? Why... as soon as he looked at her?...
She returned to the doctor's house. People slowly began to disperse, and the boy was already sitting, assuring both healers that everything was fine.
Nialeeka thought Camil looked a little more confident than before. The boy answered questions with a smile. Something about him has definitely changed. There was no fear, hostility or moodiness in him. Playfulness has disappeared.
Sailing back to Odiern was again postponed to allow Camil to recover a little. Phelan ordered the children to be escorted back, so two of his warriors went with them to protect them in case of danger.
They set sail from Stais' marinas when the sun had not yet risen. Camil was asleep when he was transferred to the boat. The brothers helped the girls get settled and got to work.
