Lara’s POV
There is a knock on the door. There really is. I am sleeping and there is a knock on the door. What is wrong with people? I check my phone and it’s only seven fifteen. I let the knocking goes on while I am hiding under the blanket but the knock just won’t go away. I growl and forcefully running my legs downstairs.
“Coming!” I announce.
I swing the door open and there he is. Looking so fine in a plain white shirt and black pants. I was about to growl at the person who bothered my beauty sleep but I declined that thought.
“Kyle?”
“Hi…..” He says hi but his eyes are not really on my face.
I run my eyes down to my body and oops, I am not wearing pants. It’s just my black panties and I am in a white tank top, without a support on my chest. Great. I quickly hide myself behind the door and just popping out my head.
“What’s up?” I ask him.
“I am sorry to bother you…..” He begins. “Do you…… um, how to….”
“Kyle? Is there anything I can help you with?”
Kyle explains his situation to me in front of my door, panicking and frustrating. He knows that it is ridiculous of him to ask me this favor but he does not have anywhere else to go. The only bakery in the neighborhood won’t open until nine and he really needs something to bake for Kennedy.
“Yeah. I’ll help you. Just hold on.” I shut the door without inviting him in because I am a manner less idiot who does not want a guy in my house when I am half naked.
After I washed my face and brushed my teeth, I put on a bra and a black t-shirt along with a pair of a grey sweatpants. I grab a cupcake and a frosting premix because we don’t have time to make things from scratch.
“Please tell me you have eggs at home!” I wait for him to answer me before locking up.
“I do.” He chuckles with a relief.
“Let’s go!”
His house is as big as mine but less empty. There a bunch of pictures on the wall, a huge ass TV and a plants. He leads me to his kitchen which is a mess right now. With waffles and fruits on the table and boxes from the waffle premix and the fruit.
“Lara, this is Kennedy, my oldest daughter.” A blonde little girl with a messed up bun and a pair of blue eyes behind a thick glasses waves her hand at me.
“This is Katherine, the younger one.” A dark hair with pale skin and red lips is smiling at me.
“And this is Keaton.” A blonde toddler in a baby chair just bawling.
“Kids, this is Lara. She lives across the street and she is going to help Kennedy baking cupcakes.” Kyle is out of his own breath.
Kyle takes Keaton to calm him down and smile at me before disappeared around the corner.
“Hi, Kids!” I wave at them.
“You look like Ariel.” Katherine comes up to me and takes my free hand.
“Aw, thanks sweetie!”
I feel so awkward but let’s get this done anyway.
“Shall we begin?” I ask these two little girls.
These little girls are so sweet. They don’t scream or being annoying. They act pretty normal. Kennedy helps me clean the table while Katherine is having her breakfast neatly. I ask Kennedy to mix the batter while I am adding all of the required ingredients into a mixing bowl. In a short time, we place the batter in the oven and make the frosting.
“I got you a buttercream frosting.” I tell Kennedy.
“We have sprinkles.” She cheerfully runs to the pantry and back with a bag of sprinkles.
Katherine joins us into making the frosting after her breakfast but ended up eating it whenever Kennedy and I are not looking. We let the cupcakes cool down a little bit and I put the frosting into a piping bag.
“You guys should get dressed.” I tell them.
“Come one, Kat!” Kennedy takes her little sister.
I begin to clean up the table but Kennedy convinces me not to. She stops her way upstairs and popping only her head to talk to me.
“I will clean it up after I get dressed.”
“It’s okay, I got this! Now go get something pretty to wear!” I wink at her.
Kennedy returns my wink with the brightest smile and goes back upstairs to get ready to school. Kyle suddenly appears and join my forces to clean the kitchen.
“Thank you so much. Really, I can’t thank you enough.” He takes the cloth out of hand.
“It’s okay. We’re here to help each other.” I chew on my cheek, trying not to be distracted.
We spend a few seconds with silence until his baby starts crying and he of course has to leave me alone in this kitchen. I smile at him to let him go and go back to cleaning. In the morning, I clean up other people’s house. It’s really great.
Keaton is still crying out loud. Like really loud at this point and I am starting to get concerned about it. I wash my hands and pat dry it then follow the sound of the crying Keaton upstairs.
“Oh, no. Why is the fever coming up again?” Kyle is talking to himself.
“Maybe you should take him to hospital.” I stand in the doorway.
Kyle does not respond. He puts Keaton in his arms and I realized that I just went upstairs without his permission.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. It’s just that I was concerned about him.” I bite my bottom lip.
“It’s okay.” He assures me. “You’re right. I should take him to the hospital after I drop the girls at school. Oh, I need to stay with Kennedy at to sale the bake.”
“You can call grandma.” Kennedy is all dressed up in a pink t-shirt in a cute overall.
“Grandma went to LA with your Grandpa to visit Uncle Ethan.” Now Kyle sounds panic.
“I can take them to school. If you don’t mind.” I turn to the girls. “It’s okay with you, right? Girls?”
“It’s okay, really. I have troubled you a lot.” Kyle is rocking his kid with a really worried face on.
“You have to take Keaton to the hospital now, Kyle. He does not look okay. I will take care of the girls.” I assure him.
He looks at his little daughter to make sure if it’s a good idea or not to leave them with a woman he barely knows. I follow his eyes to the girls and they seem fine with my idea.
“I really don’t know how to thank you.” Kyle forces his smile.
“Come on, girls! We have cupcakes to decorate.” I take them downstairs.
Kennedy and Katherine are really into slapping the frosting onto the cupcakes, especially Katherine. I thought she was going to mess them up but she is actually pretty good at it. When it comes to sprinkles, they are so generous. They top the frosting up with lots and lots of Sprinkles.
“Wow, they are so pretty.” Katherine drools over the cupcake.
“I’ll pack some for you.” Kennedy kindly packs two of those cupcakes for her sister.
I could hear Kyle’s walking down the stairs and I don’t know why I brush my frizzy hair with my fingers.
“I am going to take Keaton to the Hospital.” He informs us.
“Bye daddy!” The girls wave their daddy goodbye in unison.
I almost say the same thing as the girls but I keep my mouth shut by biting down my lips. what is wrong with me?!
