When I was younger, I wanted to have a pet dragon. I really, really did. But that didn't work out, obviously. Dragons are dangerous creatures despite their beauty. So, instead, I got a cat and named him Dragon. Dragon is still kicking, despite being 12 years old. He’s with my parents, now. Anyway, I had a lot of hopes and dreams and it's no surprise that most of them didn't work out. But, I compromised. I wanted to own a barbershop, but instead, I just learned how to cut hair. I wanted to be a singer, so I learned to play the guitar. I wanted to own a summer camp, so I got a job at Camp Ochre.
Camp Ochre isn't that bad, to be fully honest. The camp hasn’t been around for too long, it's been active only 3 years, but it’s doing pretty well despite being so young.
It's a simple summer camp, housing high-school-aged kids. I’m to watch the 11th graders from 2-10 PM with the assistance of another counselor, Rachel. She’s sweet, and great with kids of the younger sort, but she’s miserable with 11th graders. I only graduated from college a year or so ago, so I’m not too far from them age-wise. I attended camp Ochre three years ago, the first year it was around, but this is my first year working here. I can't help but feel over-excited. My year here was one of the best years of my life. This is one of the few places I've ever been where I could honestly, truly, be myself.
