I was jumping up and down like a little girl getting candy at the candy store. I was finally getting a phone! I was going to download all these games, apps for school, and even social media! I was hoping that this would score me some more friends. Not in a bad way, in a good way. I'm not the type of girl that fishes for followers, I let it occur naturally.
After we got my phone set up. I started downloading Instagram, Snapchat, Hole.io, Netflix, YouTube, etc. I went on Instagram and set up my account, then I posted a very cute photo of me. I put my phone down and started reading my favorite novel.
5 minutes later, I heard a ding and I checked my phone. Always before I check my notifications, I checked the time and it was 5:55 a.m. I knew I had to get ready soon, but then I checked my notification. Someone had commented on my Instagram post! ‘I hope its Eliana that commented,’ I thought. But when I got on it someone named makeuplover82 commented, “Omg! You look so ugly and hairy!” I stared at it, tears welling up in my eyes. But then I knew better than to ignore it.
I started my morning routine. I took a shower, washed my face, got my clothes, brushed my hair, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, and went to school.
When I arrived, as usual, Eliana was at the door waiting for me. I got out of our truck and went to go see her. “Hey!”
“Hey, Heart!” she replied.
“Ready for after school?” I asked.
“Sure! I can't wait to meet your mom and dad.” I got quiet. I honestly wish she could meet my real parents but…
“What's wrong?”
“Nothing... I might tell you when we hang out because I don't want to be bursting into tears here.”
“Ok!” My phone started dinging. Three more people had commented on my post! I got excited but when I looked, there was just more hateful comments. I realized that it might be the girls. I knew because there's four of them. Once again, I decided to ignore it.
When we got to class, everyone started staring at me, then they started laughing their eyes out. I took a good look at myself. Was I wearing pajamas? Do I have any milk or food on my face? Do I have anything hanging from my nose? I was so confused until my phone dinged. I looked at it and someone tagged me in a post. I logged on and the post was me! Someone had photoshopped it to where I was looking like a duck. My eyes and nose were still there but my lips were duck lips. On the original, I was doing a fine duck face! I thought it was cute, but I was probably too confident in myself. I went to my seat and I started crying. A girl pulled my hair as if I was a cow with horns.
“Look what we did.” Valentina started laughing.
“Hey!” yelled a voice. “Don't be doing that to my best friend!”
“Back off, Eliana. Your no use.” Harley sneered.
“GIRLS!” the teacher yelled. “ENOUGH OF YOUR NONSENSE! Get to your seats… NOW!”
“Yes ma’am..” the sighed in unison and went back to their seats, giggling.
“Hey, are you ok?” Eliana asked me.
“Y-yeah... I guess.”
15 minutes into class and everyone’s phone started dinging, including mine. Everyone started giggling and guffawing again. This time, my face looked very Asian. Once again I started crying, and I tried making it through the day.
