I took a shower and used my hair removal tools. I felt like an actual woman. I did my morning routine and chose my new outfit. I grabbed my Calvin Klein glasses and purse and headed downstairs. “Well someone is looking cute today!” Genesis complemented.
“Thanks,” I replied. I snarfed down my breakfast and brushed my teeth. I put on my foundation, mascara, etc. I looked at myself, ‘I feel so beautiful.’ I was looking for the only picture of my mom. She looked so pretty. Then I compared my face to hers. I looked so much like her. I put the keepsake down and I headed off to school.
When I arrived, Eliana had a shocked look on her face. “Y-you look so… different.” she stuttered. “But you look good.” She gave a shy smile.
“Thanks,” I hugged her.
“Wheres your backpack?”
“Who needs it? I have a purse.”
She fell quiet. We passed Valentina, Naomi, Harley, and Everly. They gave me a good look, which made me feel good. We got to class and Mrs. Sanchez complimented me, and so did everyone. I sat down next to Eliana. That's when the squad went up to me.
“OMG!” shrieked Valentina. “You look so amazing!”
“You should sit with us at lunch!” Everly offered.
“I would love to but-” I was interrupted.
“You must!” Naomi insisted.
“And… We have an extra spot for you!”
“Thanks, Harley.” Eliana was confused. “Can I go sit with them?”
“Sure.. go-”
“You don't need her permission!” Valentina dragged me to the spot next to her. I finally felt like I belonged here. I looked over at Eliana, ‘She’ll be fine without me.’ We talked about makeup, rich clothing stores, and more stuff cool kids talk about, which honestly includes weed.
*Ring Ring Ring!* The bell signaled for lunch. Eliana went up to me and asked, “Are you going to come sit with me?”
“Ew,” I said. “Why would I want to sit with a nerd like you?” She looked at me. Tears in her eyes. “Wow, you're going to cry just because I said ‘no’ to you?”
“You've changed…” she walked off and sat by herself. I didn't care about her no more, and really, I have new friends. I found them at one, big, fancy lunch table.
“Hey girl!” Valentina greeted.
“Hey!” I replied. The 5 of us had a great big conversation. From the corner of my eye, I could see Eliana giving me a disappointed stare, but I ignored it.
