That's how Manager Taejin finds us the next morning. He slams his bag onto the table waking all of us up. I glance at Jun’s head that’s buried into my side and Sunshine’s foot against my head. Why is he upside down!? Poor Hajoon and Jay are lying on the floor. His eyes widen and I can see the instant regret in on his face before he even opening his mouth.
"What are you doing?"
Everyone begins to wake up and I can hear someone whisper "Shit." Most likely Sunshine.
Taejin straightens and nods to the door. "Get ready. We're about to head out.” He pads across the floor and pauses. “Why is the carpet wet?!"
"It's Jun's fault."
Jun turns to Taejin. "But..."
Our manager just shakes his head and grasps the handle to the door. "Ten minutes. You have that long to get into proper clothes and come out. Anyone who is late gets to clean the entire dorm after the concert.
DaeDae and Jay sprint to their rooms. We quickly change into presentable clothes before we're loaded into the SUV.
"Last concert. I love performing in Seoul."
"Maybe afterwards we can go eat." Hajoon smacks his lips. "I'm thinking something spicy."
"You're always hungry." I look out the window.
"And?"
"I'm just saying." I say unable to hide my grin. Seeing the Han River below us is always a wonder. The sun is glittering off the top of the river to make it look like it's glowing. The buildings pass by as a blur and I take in the billboards of us. Our country was so proud of us and I could only feel that we shouldn't disappoint them. The huge stadium glows in the distance, bringing anyone who's in the vicinity to check it out.
"Some of our fans are wearing our merch." Jun leans over me and mushes his face against the window.
I push him back into his seat. "You're going to get yourself hurt."
"I'm getting excited butterflies about this. Are you guys ready?" Dae asks as he bounces in his seat.
"This is your last one for a week. I bet you're excited." Manager Taejin turns to look at us. "Should I treat you to some good food after this?"
Everyone cheers and he nods once before turning back around.
"Food, food, food." Hajoon chants in the back.
"Let's do well." I whisper. Checking my phone once more, I frown. Why hasn't Morgan texted yet. Was he busy? Was he sick? Worry churned in my gut. He could just be busy. Maybe the cafe was finally picking up. A smile pulling at my lips. He looked so cute the first time I saw him in his uniform. We pull up at the stadium and file out. Now the fun would begin. Mic checks, costumes check, stage makeup, and of course the pre jittery workout we did to warm our bodies up. I shake my arms to loosen them. Bending down to touch my toes, I stretch my muscles and follow the others as we make our way into the dressing room. Someone begins to play one of our newest songs and the atmosphere in the room becomes cheerful as we sing along. Ding.
You'll do well! Sorry for not answering earlier. It's been a wild day.
The message from Morgan instantly makes me feel better and I quickly reply. I figured you were busy. Glad to see it has calmed down enough that you can catch your breath. Thanks for the confidence.
A few seconds later my phone alerted me again. Kim wants to know when she can join the band. I told her it was guys only and she threatened to sue me for sexism. It's true though.
I let out a laugh as I sit on the edge of the couch. Don't ruin her dreams like that. She can be anything she wants to be. As for the eighth member? If she can pass Sunshine's dance regimen, actually speak fluent Korean and can sing as high as DaeDae, then I don't see why we couldn't take her.
Nothing. I begin pulling my shirt as stylist swarm me to fix my hair and to dress me up. My phone dings and I move around them to answer it.
She says never mind.
I never knew Kim to be a quitter. I tease.
She says she's holding off until she becomes more confident in her abilities. That and she doesn't know how she can fend off the fanboys she's going to get. He sends a grinning emoji and then a picture of Kim doing the finger hearts.
I take a picture of me giving hearts back before sending it. Morgan replies instantly, his text full of random letters and emojis.
Why are you naked?
I'm not. Just shirtless.
Thank God Kim isn't here or she would have ripped the phone from my hand.
Someone snatches my phone and Jun wiggles his eyebrows at me. "Oh talking to Morgan huh?"
"Give it back." I growl as the stylist lift my head to do the makeup.
"Oh come on, you two are completely flirting. It's adorable."
Everyone begins to crowd around the phone. "Whoa, that's a nice body Kang. When did you get so fit? Is it a filter?" DaeDae cackles.
Closing my eyes, I count to ten. "If you don't give me my phone back I'm going to murder you."
"Oh look another message." He immediately beings typing.
Jerking away from the stylist I reach for the phone. The others scatter and I'm dragged back to my position.
My heart yearns for you and your corny jokes. Be mine? Thank god it was in Korean or I would have been beyond embarrassed.
What does that say? Morgan replies.
I'm going to kill Jun and I need help hiding the body.
A laughing emoji popped up. I got your back.
I bite my lip. So if you're not with Kim where are you?
Wandering around getting some fresh air. I needed a break. It's so beautiful here. I think you would love it.
I could imagine us walking around, just talking about random things and enjoying the weather. Maybe we could watch the flowers fall for the first time.
"Mic check in ten minutes." A staff member calls out.
I need to head out. Have fun walking.
Have fun performing. Bye .
I put my phone up and let the stylists finish what they're doing. By the time they’re done we have a minute to spare. I get into performer mode as we do the usual. When it counts down to the concert starting I can hear my fans screaming. The fanchants are loud and it pumps me up.
“We got this.” Jay holds his hand out. “We are Wish. We make dreams come true and help people get through rough times.”
“Yeah we are.” Sunshine slaps his hand on top of Jay’s. Each one of us puts our hand on top of each other. “On three we make a wish. Ready? One. Two. Three!”
I close my eyes wishing that somehow I could see Morgan one more time. Opening my eyes again, I’m ready to go.
“Let’s do this.”
The music begins and we get on top of the lifting platform. It was time.
The concert went off without a hitch and by the time we’re making our way back to the car, I’m hopping like a kid on sugar. Tonight had been exhilarating.
“Did you see how Dae and Kang flipped in unison during the break? It was like watching dolphins in the sea.” Jun says.
What a weird analogy. I climb into the car, the urge to text Morgan overriding all other thoughts. I have to tell him about this concert.
Are you awake?
I run my tongue over my lips, feeling the butterflies in my stomach roar as I wait. Was he asleep? What time was it again over there? Ding.
I am. How was the concert?
Surprise and pure happiness soars through me. No way. Dialing his number I listen as it rings.
“Kang!” Morgan’s voice is pure heaven. I lean back against my seat, squirming at how he says my name.
“Why are you up so late?”
“Ya, Kang! Are you talking to him again?” Sunshine growls.
“Hey, we all know Kang likes him.” DaeDae chuckles. I lean over and smack him hard on the arm. Giving him a death glare, I mouth for him to shut up.
“Oh Morgan I want you.” I pull my shoe off and hit him harder.
I can hear Morgan clearing his throat. “Everything okay?”
“They’re just saying they miss your company.” I answer quickly hoping he doesn’t catch my lie. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Actually what’s your plans for tonight?”
My plans? I make a sound. “I guess head back to the dorm. The others are going to do their own thing.”
“Do you want to meet up?”
I freeze as I replay the words in my head. Meet up? How could we meet up? He was in America. Unless. He was here? In Seoul?
“Ka-”
“You’re in Seoul?”
“I’m actually right outside the stadium.”
No freaking way. “You’re in Seoul!? Hey let me out of here.”
“He’s here?”
“What are you doing?”
I hop out of the car and start running not knowing where I’m going. All I know is that I have to be where he is. “Where are you?”
