"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! you said this was going to be a happy story!" shouted the little girl with black ponytails. she huffed as her brother rolled his eyes at her reaction.
"It is a happy story." he closed the book, adjusting his pose.
"A story about an aborted baby?!" she threw her arms in the air, unsatisfied
"I told you that before we start, did I not?" he took a sip from his tea as his sister's predictable complaints kept coming.
she grunted with deep aversion "Yeah, but you also said it's a happy story!"
He got up holding the book in his hand and moving to the large bookshelf behind him. "What's not happy about it?"
"What?! James never rests, Katie breaks up her friendship with Hana, probably with years of therapy ahead of her! What's happy about it?!" she counted everything on her little fingers and pointing them at her brother.
"That Katie learned her lesson." he placed the book back to its place.
"But that's not fair! shouldn't it be Hana going through this?" she pushed away from her seat back and forth.
"Hm?" asked Marid as he went back to his seat.
"Y'know, because she is the one who HAD the baby."
"Yes, but Katie isn't less guilty." he positioned himself properly grabbing his cup of tea again.
Amani got frustrated and shot up from her seat pointing a finger at him "WHAT! If I told you to go kill your mum would you blindly do it?!"
"Of course not." he took another sip of his fancy tea while holding the small plate in his other hand.
"Exactly! so it should be Hana going through all this instead of Katie!" she threw her arms and head on the table.
Marid thought for a bit "You have a good point."
"I think she was the one who's supposed to go through this, not Katie. The doctor too, I forgot his name," she said annoyed.
"It could also be that Katie as a person is more redeemable, maybe that's why she's going through that instead." He said pouring another cup of tea.
"Well, you're the writer" she spoke as she grabbed another cookie.
he chuckled, "I don't see how it would've been different if Hana was there instead. Katie's abandonment while bringing up that subject probably would make her think twice before taking abortion as an option again. Besides," he placed down the empty cup on the table. "Do you think Hana would've been mentally capable of facing James?"
Amani Thought for a bit and said "Actually no, I don't think she would have taken it in as Katie. That would be too much for her to handle."
"The Doctor, Hana, and Katie. all take responsibility with various degrees. Hana lost the only person she considered a friend too so bonus for you."
She finally sat properly, "I see... I still feel bad for James, he didn't get the closure he deserves."
"Didn't you pay attention? he will get his right from her when she dies."
"Yuiks, sorry not sorry Hana." Amani Laughed.
"Glad you seem to somewhat enjoy it." he giggled, after taking another sip.
"I did not!" she puffed her cheeks, then she blinked a few times looking confused.
"What's wrong?" asked her brother.
she scratched her head and asked, "Why did he look like an adult when he died as a baby?"
"A fetus, Amani. And it's linked to the age where everyone will be revived as in the second life."
"Right, I should've guessed that." She smiled.
"Indeed." He gave her a high and mighty grin.
"You're still so evil! You fooled me into thinking this is a happy story."
"Isn't it a happy ending when they learn from their mistakes?" he asked.
"Well... yeah, I guess that's considered a happy ending... sort of." she turned her head to the side seemed to drift into some thinking.
"Its called a bittersweet ending, Amani. one that isn't happy, but isn't all that bad." he placed his second empty cup down. That was enough tea for one today.
"I bet you want me to tell you what I learned from the story that YOU wrote just for ME, no?"
He curled his lips inwards looking away, feeling exposed. "If you want to."
"Haha, of course, I do."
"So what did you learn sister?" he smiled at her.
She hummed as she got up and placed her chair back properly. she walked to Marid and sat on his lap "What are you doing?" he asked most utterly confused.
Then she spoke in the most annoying loud screeching voice. "Well, daddy! Today I lear-" He immediately stood up dropping his sister on the floor, with a loud thud. and starts walking away.
"Hey! why did you do that?!" she got up, stumbling a bit before grabbing his cloth. "Hey wait!"
"Call me "Daddy" again, I will stop these reading meetups!" he growled.
"Nooo! come on, I'm sorryyyy!" she hugged him tightly.
He rolled his eyes and then asked: "What did you learn?"
She let go of him and cleaned his throat "That Jame's life is as important as Hana's, and she shouldn't make such choices for him. as she can't tell the future." she grinned.
"Hana wouldn't have been a good mother."
"What?"
"James's personality is one he would've had if he lived. his reaction to Katie's gift, was because he truly never seen love from his mother, who only cares about herself and her friends."
"But then... how is James so nice?"
"Bad things can bring good things within them and vise-versa." He circled his sister explaining to her.
"Hana's cruelty would motivate James to become a better person and never treat anyone like his mother did. hence his kind personality, it also plays on why he didn't try to haunt her as a ghost and stayed at the abortion clinic."
"Wow... That's really sad..." she frowned.
"It's alright Amani, it's just a story" he smiled, nudging her with his elbow.
her face brightened up again deciding to continue "Also, I don't know why Hana did it. But from what I understood, that regardless of the reason... James had no hand in it... so it feels like he is being punished for something he never did." she had a big smile on her face, confident she had a good answer.
he walked in front of her again and turned to face her. "What if he would kill her?"
"huh?" his question caught her off guard.
"What if birthing James, would cause a danger to Hana's life? kill her in other words. Should she still keep him?"
"I... If it will kill Hana to have him...she..."
"She should abort him," he replied for her, feeling he confused her too much.
"What? really?!" she looked shocked.
"Yes, I mean, no woman should kill herself over a baby," he spoke lit sarcastically like it was common sense for him.
He walked back and sat down at the table deciding to have another cup of tea, Amani was flipping his answer in his head, before going back to her seat herself.
"I sometimes forget you're not on anyone's side." she laughed.
"It's your turn to present a story next time, make it good and with a purpose." Said Marid.
Amani yet again shot up from her seat, cheering "Finally! I got just the right story in my head!"
Marid's world - END
