When Dorian woke up, he was confused. He recognized the room; it was his own bedroom. But Dorian had no idea how he got there.
Dorian sat up in the bed and saw that he was only in his boxers. On the outside of his thigh were a bruise and a swelling. He felt cautious at the injury, confused about how he had gotten it. It hurt when he touched it.
Dorian tried to remember what had happened the night before. He remembered that they had started dancing, but after that, everything was just blank. He assumed he got a blackout because of the alcohol, which was the first time in his life!
Thirst tore at his throat, and he got up from the bed to go to the kitchen.
But he got dizzy and fell over. A terrible headache struck, and he cried out in pain.
The door to the bedroom opened quickly, and a red-haired man came running in.
"How is it, honey?"
The man looked worried at Dorian and sat down next to him on the bed. Dorian grimaced and shook his head.
"Damn alcohol," he muttered.
"Feels like my head is going to explode."
He looked up and met his husband's gaze. He gasped. Finian's beautiful green eyes were red, and he was dark around them as if he hadn't slept at all but spent the night crying instead.
Dorian took his husband's face in his hands.
"Don't you feel alright, babe?"
Finian took a deep breath, and his husband gave him a worried look.
"What do you remember from yesterday?"
Dorian looked troubled, what had happened that had made Finian so anxious. Dorian told him everything he remembered, and when he finished, he saw that Finian was close to tears.
"Come on; you have to tell me what happened. I'm getting worried. Have I done something wrong?"
The red-haired man shook his head.
"No, you haven't done anything wrong. The reason why you feel bad is not because of the alcohol. You feel bad because you went into a rut yesterday, and the guards had to give you a large dose of suppressive."
Dorian's eyes grew wide. What was Finian talking about? He had no recollection of going into a rut. It didn't make any sense at all. His rut was at the same time as Finian's, and it was a long time until then.
"But how? Did I get it early? But that has never happened before!"
Finian took Dorian's hand in his. His sad look made Dorian's heart hurt.
"Finian, please, you must tell me. Did I do something stupid yesterday? But I have never reacted to any omega's heat before. I am a Prime Alpha! I am not affected by omega's pheromones in the same way as other alpha," Dorian said with distress.
"Elliot told me everything that happened; it was he who brought you home after you fainted. Dorian, Elliot said that neither he nor anyone else he talked to had ever seen anything like it. It was as if you were completely changed like you weren't even human anymore. You secreted so many pheromones that every alpha and omega were affected. Not only at the nightclub but also on the street outside. It took three guards to get you down when you suddenly attacked another alpha."
The tears ran down Finian's beautiful face, and Dorian himself felt that he would burst into tears at any time. He couldn't stand to see Finian suffering. It hurt him so much to see his beloved cry.
"Dorian, a doctor, looked at you, and there is no doubt. You were exposed to pheromones from your fated pair."
What Finian said hit Dorian like a punch straight in the face, and he just stared at his crying husband.
"It's also one of the reasons you're feeling bad now, Dorian, you never even got to touch the omega. Your body doesn't understand what's going on. It needs omega's pheromones."
Dorian didn't want to believe a word of what Finian said. He shook his head and was about to protest when Finian suddenly caressed Dorian's cheek.
"I know you have a hard time believing in what I'm telling you, none of us have ever thought there was a chance we'd meet our fated pair. But you're a Prime Alpha, and many of your relatives are with their omegas. If you think about it, it's no wonder that you met yours in the end."
Dorian shook his head again, and he began to feel irritated.
"This is bullshit, Finian. I love you, and I would never be affected by an omega's pheromones. You're the only one that matters to me. Please, believe me."
Finian could hear the desperation in his husband's voice, which made him cry even harder.
"I know, and I love you too. But you also know that fated pairs are nothing you can control."
Dorian got up on weak legs and stared at Finian.
"No, Finian, forget it. I'll never see that omega again. I don't even know who it was. So, we're not talking about this anymore, okay? I'll go shower; please try to sleep a little?"
Finian sighed heavily but nodded.
"I'll try."
Dorian turned around and went to the bathroom, which was next to the master bedroom. When Dorian had closed the door, he couldn't hold back all the emotions.
Dorian slid along the door until he sat on the floor, tears running down his cheeks. To keep Finian from hearing him cry, he hid his face in a towel. Dorian understood that what Finian said most likely was true. Unfortunately, everything seemed to point to it. But Dorian didn't want this.
Everyone knew about fated pairs. These omegas and alphas linked to each other through their pheromones. They were perfect for each other in every way, but the chance of finding one's fated pair was so small that less than a hundred people did it every hundred years.
Why him? Dorian couldn't care less about any fated pair. He had his Finian. They had met in primary school at the age of nine, and it had been love from first sight for Dorian. They had become a couple in High School, and Dorian had never been interested in anyone other than his beloved Irish husband.
But Dorian understood that something was very wrong, and he was afraid. He felt sick; he was in pain, felt feverish, and experienced dizziness. But worse was the feeling that something was missing, but he didn't know know what. It just felt like it was empty inside him. Dorian had never felt anything like it.
Dorian forced himself upon his legs. He didn't want to worry Finian anymore, so he took off his underwear and went into the shower. The water was warm and felt great on his body. He stood for a long time as if the water could wash everything away.
When Dorian was done, he walked out of the shower with the towel around his waist. He quickly went to the bedroom and stopped at the door. In their bed lay his beloved, and Dorian watched him with his heart full of love. Finian was so beautiful; he looked like an angel where he lay under the blanket and slept so peacefully.
Dorian went to the bedside table first and picked up a medicine can. He opened it, took out a bunch of pills in his palm, stuffed them in his mouth, and swallowed them. It wasn't his own pills, Dorian had never used this type of medicine before; it was Finian's suppressants. But Dorian needed to get rid of this feeling, so he took twice the dose.
After he had swallowed the medicine, he climbed onto the bed and moved as close to Finian as humanly possible. Without Finian waking up - the poor man must have been exhausted - Dorian embraced his husband, and then fell asleep.
