The wind was causing water to crash over the side of the boat misting the crew that were on the deck. The clouds shadowed the moon shielding them in nothing but darkness as Reason reached Jon. Jon had been his brother for more than a decade, which made his betrayal even harder. Reason let their brotherhood and their past go when he pulled back his sword and plunge it into Jon's gut. Releasing all his hatred in the blade as it cut through the flesh of the traitor.
The men that tied Jon up stood there in silence. Normally, there would be a mutiny when one strikes against the captain. The men didn't know what to think of the events unfolding in front of them. With Reason ignoring the rules that had been set in place for this very reason, they weren't sure if they did the right thing following the captain's orders. He performed a killing blow without a second thought. A brother was dying against the law, all because of a woman.
Jon spat out blood and looked at the men beside Reason, he saw the look on their faces and knew that even in death he had won. Jon struggled to speak to them "I told you, you better protect yourselves, or-or you will be ne-next." The words Jon had spoken were starting to ring true in their ears, and he knew just what to say to further their worry against their captain. Reason couldn't think rational when it came to that woman, and he hoped to install fear in the men. Fear that they would all die if things stayed this way, and maybe show them he had the right motives after all.
Jon focused the rest of his attention to his sworn brother. "You lost, before you even started, when you-you chose her before the code."
"I followed the rules, I did everything you asked and made sure the crew was with me. It is you that broke conduct and attacked a mate at sea." Reason explained himself until Jon was gasping for air. He didn't walk away until Jon expelled his last breath.
Reason quietly entered his quarters to not startle Eron awake. Her face was an array of new colors by the time he came back. She had small cuts on her lips, and eyebrows. Reason gently touched her face with his fingertips, but Eron was awake and backed away from his touch.
"Please go," she turned her head away from him not wanting him to touch her.
His heart was hurting from her rejection, it wasn't the tongue he was used to. Her voice shook with fear and sadness. "I didn't mean..."
"Just leave!" Tears were trickling out of her swollen eyes and falling down her face burning her cuts. "I never want to see you again."
Reason backed away from her deciding it was best for him to leave her alone, for now. She had been put through enough for today, and he couldn't help but think it was all his fault. That he could have prevented this had gotten to her sooner. He didn't want to completely leave her alone, so he planned to sleep across the room at his desk, where he could watch over her.
Eron woke up from rolling onto her side in her sleep. Her face came into contact with the roughness of the sheets causing her to hiss out a breath cursing herself. Reason came to her side in an instant trying to help her sit up. "I thought I told you to go away."
"I know you are mad at me but I'm here to protect you." His voice was showing no aggression and trickery for the first time since she boarded the Oceans Pint, and it only made her angrier.
"If it wasn't for, I wouldn't be in this mess. The one I should have protection from is you." She saw through the sliver of an opening in her eyes how badly her words hurt him, so she drove the nail in further. "You manipulated me, you destroyed everything I am to get me here for some stupid lost item that was taken from you. Well Reason, was it worth it? Was it worth losing your respect from your crew, the lives that have died over it, and my hate for you? Was. It. Worth. It?"
"I guess you still need some time to come to your senses. I will be across the room if you need me." She couldn't read his face when he got up, he had turned his back to her too quickly. "If you were to ask me if I thought you were worth it, I would've said, yes."
Eron heard the click of the door and scanned the room. To her surprise he had left her alone once again. Her mind kept circling over his last words trying to make sense of them. Did he mean that her hate for him was worth it all? Or was he trying to trick her once again into trusting him before he made his attack?
Reason stood over the bow of the ship with a cigar in his mouth and a bottle of whiskey at his side. The sea had calmed since his fight with Jon, who was now being hauled over the side into the depths of the ocean. Reason took a puff of his cigar and reminisced on the past as he blew out the smoke. They truly did rule over anyone in their path, they raped cities for their gold, enjoyed the sins of the flesh, and drank any worries they had away. Feeling the loss Reason flicked his cigar butt out into the dark ocean, took a swig of his drink, and headed back to the room, where he would no longer be welcomed at.
Reason looked over at Eron when he entered the room, her face was contorted, but she was still laying there vulnerable and it made him ache for her, he loved her innocence. Reason felt lustful thoughts swarm in his head, as he reached her. It took a lot out of him to push away the urge to touch her. Realizing he wasn't going to stop staring at her as her skin peeked through the thin fabric, he tossed the covers over her. He was in no position to advance on his desires, not when she looked the way she did, and certainly not out of her own free will, he was a pirate not a monster. There was a month left before they would reach their destination, he needed to get his emotions in balance. Eron started to toss and turn under the covers, startling Reason out of his thoughts. He rushed over to the desk and began to look over his maps as if he had been there the entire time.
Pain radiated her body and it hurt to move her face. She laid there in the dark, from her eyes swelling completely shut, thinking about her situation. She knew Reason was next to her but opted out of moving to see what he would do. When he tossed the covers over her, she moved slightly to test him further. When he quickly rushed away it made her a little happy knowing he was scared of her at the moment. A scene from earlier came to mind as she laid there helpless. When she drank with the crew, she had overheard a conversation about the supplies getting low. This meant that they would need to dock soon. Eron felt the possibility of escape not far out of reach, but not a whole lot of time to plan for it. She needed to think quickly and find a solution before they docked, and since she had at least a week to two to hear she would have the time to think of endless scenarios. For now, it was best if she got some rest, nothing was better for healing than a lot of water and rest.
An unsettling feeling washed over Eron when she heard a faint noise. She stood there in a dense fog searching for the sound, which sounded an awful lot like a music box, from her past. When she noticed the box off in the distance her feet began to move on their own. The music was pulling her closer, as if it was compelling her to move. The eerie sound got louder as her hand reached out to the box, but it began to bleed through its cracks stopping her from touching it. Blood was pouring over the edges, and onto the floor splattering all over her feet. Fear filled her making her turn away from to box to try and run away. She kept running through the fog until her feet slipped of the ledge of a cliff jolting her awake. Her face being swollen and her eye sealed. She wasn't sure if she was still in the strange place. Her breath was staggering, and she fumbled out of the bed to stand up. Her hands search around her trying to make sure she was still on the ship. Last time she had a dream is wasn't one, so she needed a sense of reality around her.
Reason walked up behind her and placed his hand on her shoulder. "Eron? You okay?"
Eron grabbed the hand that held onto her shoulder and used muscle memory to put him into a standing arm lock. "Who are you?"
Reason was hitting her thighs with the hand he had available. "It's me. It's Reason."
"Prove it." Eron didn't know what was going on, she was confused from the dream, if that's what it was. It felt so real to her.
"You have what I need most, and I killed everyone you love to acquire it." Reason didn't wait for her grip to loosen he popped his arm out of its socket and used his good arm to pin her to the bed.
"Get off me, I believe you okay." She pounded on his chest pushing him off.
Reason let out a loud groan as her fist made contact with his injured shoulder. He rolled onto his back before sliding off the bed onto the floor. Finding himself in a mumbling fit. "Fucking shit, mother fucker, fucking bitch."
"What?" Eron sat up, her ears grasping for sounds to figure out what was going on.
Reason took a few deep breaths in and grabbed his forearm. "Come down here."
Eron felt around her until she found Reason. When she found him, she moved her way off the bed and kneeled next to him. "What is it? Is something wrong?" Still not over her dream Eron kept a hand on Reason as she moved around.
"I need your help putting my shoulder right." Reason grabbed onto her hand and pulled it off him to lead her in front of him.
"What do I do?" She pulled her hand away from his, as she sat down to where he guided her.
"I need you to rotate my arm." He reached for her hand and placed it on the arm that was out of socket. "I need you to keep the upper arm at my side and rotate my forearm out away from me."
Eron listened to his directions as she helped him place his arm back in its socket. "Fixed?"
Reason rotated his arm "yeah, thank you."
Eron then stood up feeling around the room, everything felt the same as it looked before the fight. When she was feeling more comfortable, she started to hum the melody she heard in her dream trying to make sense of it all. She knew she heard it once before, but where?
Reason abruptly and forcefully turned Eron around, "Where did you hear that?" His hands gripped tightly around her shoulders as he stared at her with a horrifying look on his face and concern in his voice.
