I also snagged one of my cloth surgical masks and my multi-tool and stuffed them in a pocket before returning to the dining room. When I got there, the gremlin had moved from being in my dad's hair to gnawing on a newly soldered connection. It was near the edge of the table with it's back to me so I took the opportunity to sneak in and slam my hand down on top of it. The movement and noise made my dad jump and looked up at me.
"Oh! Hi son. You know you shouldn't do that when I'm working. I could have broken something important." He told me.
"That's true but you know mom doesn't like it when you work on things in the dining room either." I countered.
"You're right. I probably shouldn't be doing this here but this computer has been a pain in the rear to fix so I thought I needed a little bit of a change scenery was in order to do better." he replied, rubbing his head and trying to laugh it off.
I sighed and snuck a look under my hand. The force of my hand landing on the gremlin had stunned durable creature just like I thought it would. This made capturing it simple and I palmed it as I lifted my hand from the table.
"Well, it's morning now and I need a place to eat my breakfast." I told him.
"Morning?" my dad said in surprise before looking out the window. "So it is! I'm sorry. You go make yourself something to eat while I clear some space for you."
"Right." I said before heading back to kitchen.
I deposited the gremlin into the jar and put it in my pocket before searching the kitchen for food. There wasn't much in the way of choice since it was nearing the end of the week but I found some left over golden fried rice and mushroom quiche from the other night when I made supper.
"Hey, dad! Do you want some of the quiche from last night?" I called out to him.
"Sure!"
"K."
I dug a couple of plates out of the cupboards along with a bowl. I set them on the counter and took the quiche and rice out of the fridge. I split the remaining quiche between the two plates, giving my dad the bigger portion and filling the bowl with the rice. I put the remaining rice away and grab some silverware before bringing the dishes into the dining room. My dad had cleared enough space for us to eat and I set the dishes down. I went back and got a couple of glasses of almond milk for us before joining him at the table and digging in.
"So what are you planning on to be doing today?" He asked me between bites.
"I was thinking of going down to the precinct to see if they have any work for me to do after I've done my chores. If they don't have anything for me, I'll probably go wandering around downtown for a while. If that's okay with you, that is." I told him.
