Esmeray runs through the forest. Jumping. Dodging. She kept repeating over and over. "I can make it. I can make it." She hits the edge of the porch of the old log cabin. Her breath coming out in choppy gasps. She pumps her fist upwards. "Made it!" After catching her breath, she starts grabbing supplies. Salt. Sage. Dolls. What else? Clothes. She needed to find the clothes her mom made her. She slipped the dress over her head, and felt the familiar chill on her back. Once she stepped outside, a shiver ran over skin. She runs her hands over the goosebumps trying to warm her skin. She walks in the familiar circle around the house pouring salt. Creating a barrier around the house, but it was not to keep things out. It was to keep her in. She still recalled an incident that happened when she was younger. She had ripped through a field of cattle in a matter of minutes. Waking up the next day covered in blood, torn clothes, and laying on top of their corpses. Since her parents took extra precautions, buying a house in the woods far from the city. They taught her how to prevent further incidents happening. Though as she got older, the nights grew easier. She no longer hungered, or craved violence. Now, the reason involved something more dangerous.
Esmeray sighs, and looks up at the full moon rising. Soon she will haft to face her demons. She places the five dolls in front of her. She light the sage to cleanse the dolls, and waved the tendrils of smoke over them. She mutters the spell her mother taught her. "I here by bless these vessels to hold their prisoner until burned. If I am not able to burn it before sunrise, than their prisoner shall be released." They rose into the air forming a semi circle around her. The itch under her skin was at it's peak now. She felt the power burst from her body. The air grew heavy, as she shifted from her human skin. Her hair grew to circle by her feet, and turned a white so pure it made the moon blush in shame. Her finger nails grew into sharp points, and turned as black as the night. She closes her eyes, as pain shot across her back. Rotating her shoulders to relieve the pain from her wings growing. They resembled those of a raven. Shining blue when light reflected off of them. Her eyes opened to reveal a set of vibrant violet eyes, as her black horns sprouted from her forehead.
A being appeared next to her, and she looked down at the tiny creature. The being smiled at her warmly, as she spoke in a high pitched voice. "Misses, will you need assistance this month as well?"
Esmeray patted the little half-gremlins head. "Yes, Lizzy, I will require your help." The girl giggled with glee. She kneels beside the gremlin running her fingers through Lizzy's red hair. "I think we need to trim your hair again."
Lizzy nodded her head vigorously. "Yes. Thank you, Misses." Her round face beamed with joy causing her emerald eyes to glisten with excitement.
Esmeray nods. "My pleasure, little one. Now, lets begin." She spreads her arms wide, and mutters the spell she had created. "Those I have imprisoned within me, seek your freedom on this moonlight night. You have until sunrise to find your escape." A scream fell from her lips, as the five dark figures burst from her being.
Darcy's ears perked up when a familiar scream fell upon them. Huh? Concern furrowed his brow, and he paused at the stairs out of the basement. He looks back at his friends, and saw them all confined to their rooms. He sniffed the air trying to catch a scent that gave away what was happening. His friend, Conall, patted him on the shoulder. "Go check things out. If she needs help, than you’re the best choice out here."
Darcy nods his head, and walks up the stairs. "Thanks. I'll be back soon. Just gonna go check up on things." Once outside, he welcomed the cold of the night air. It was refreshing after being in that stuffy basement. He picked his way slowly through the forest until he heard another scream. This one sounded that of a child. He started running in the direction it came from to find a scene he was not prepared for. A red headed child was cradled in the arms of a white haired demon while four dark figures circled them. The woman's head jerked in his direction, and he recognized her instantly. Esmeray! He registered the emotions that ran through her face. Fear. Shock. Anger. The last lingered on her face, and it made him pause. He looked down at the circle of salt at his feet, and frowned. She trapped herself in there with them. He moves to step forward, but a force knocked him back. She held a barrier in front of her as she laid the girl on the ground, and formed a salt circle around her.
Esmeray shoots him a glare. "Interfere, and they will be the least of your worries." She turns her back to him to face her foes. Her wings spread in a provoking manner, as her ruby lips twisted into a fiendish smile. He watched in horror as they rushed her at once. She dodged ones attack, but landed in the path of another. Her head jerked back as she took the blow. Anger flashed through her eyes, as blood ran down her cheek from the cut. She snatches one by its throat, and mumbles something as she pushes it towards a doll. "You have been caught, and will meet your end by sunrise." It was sucked into the temporary vessel. She twirled to meet the last three, and snagged too with fierce precision. Though as she forced the two in their dolls, the third had charged from behind. Shoving its hand through the middle of her body. A scream erupted from her lips, as she fell down on her knees.
Darcy's attention was snatched by a shrill voice. "Misses, no." He looks at the little red head, as she banged against the wall of her confinement. Esmeray looked at the girl, and smiled. She stood back on her feet, but swayed slightly. She raised her hand to capture the last figure instead it wrapped its fingers around her throat.
She smiled maliciously at the creature. "I win." The doll races at the dark figure, and sucks it into its contents. She falls to the ground, as the dolls burst into flames. She waves her hand in the direction of the girl. The circle of salt breaks to release its captive.
The girl rushes towards Esmeray. "Misses! I'll heal you, so hold still!"
Esmeray runs her hand through the girls wild red hair. "Thank you, Lizzy." Her eyes shift to him. "Darcy, what brings you to my neck of the woods?"
He stays outside the circle, but moves closer to where she laid. "I heard a scream, and decided to come check it out. Wanted to make sure everything was okay."
Esmeray smiles wryly. "Well, thank you for your concern, but I'd appreciate it if you kept quiet about what happened here." Lizzy's hands glowed green for a few seconds, than Esmeray stood on her feet once more. She walked to the edge of the circle where he stood. Her eyes glimmered with anger. "Or you will find yourself with missing time, understood?"
Darcy frowns at her words. "I understand, but will you answer a few questions about what happened."
Lizzy tugs on her sleeve. "Trust him." Were the only words that left her mouth before she walked over to the cabin.
Esmeray frowns at her retreating figure. When her gaze meets Darcy's once again, she gives one promise. "Tomorrow." She turns to walk towards the house, but stops to say one thing. "Have a safe journey home."
Darcy walked back to his full moon retreat shocked at what he just saw. Not just the fight, but her full moon appearance left him awed. The brilliant glow of her violet eyes contrasted with her snow white hair. She looked more like a moonlight goddess than a demon. He walked down the stairs, and rubbed a tired hand over his face. His eyes meet his life long friend's, and saw the worry that lined his face. "Dude, full moons are the worst."
Conall's face breaks into a wide grin. "No kidding. Come on. Were past the worst of the night. It'll be morning soon, and you'll need to catch some sleep."
Darcy smiles at his best friend. "Thanks. I'm glad we got tomorrow off." He pauses at the entrance of his room. "See ya in the morning."
