We were outside of our dusty apartment making our way to the bar where we´re going to meet everybody. On the street there were a bunch of shady people, but I guess we were shady as well. We were living in the abandoned quarter of the Moka Capitol City. Rumor has it that a long time ago, people died of a mysterious sickness here. And for some reason after this disaster the government acted like this quarter had never existed. Nobody officially came in here. Nobody spoke about it.
It was a paradise for thieves, criminals and us I guess us. The only law that functioned here was the law of the jungle.
„Hey is everything fine? You look like you want to kill somebody.“, it was Nagi speaking to me. He looked worried.
„I´m fine. I was just thinking what kind of crap the Circle pulled off this time. The poor girl.“, I somehow regretted swearing in front of my brother, but I knew that he was no little kid anymore.
„Let´s first see how she is doing before we get aggressive ´kay? We shouldn´t stress her out to much.“, Vivienne got really different lately. Normally I was the rational one, but now it seems like she took my role.
To get to the bar we had to go through a lot of small alleys. Even though it was called the abandoned part, it was pretty lively here. You could hear the people talk in their houses. And the smoke from the chimneys arose constantly to the skies. A few months ago I would get panic attacks, from the sight of smoke. But after living here for good nine months, I started to be able to appreciate sights like this again. After all, I was a signal that people live here.
Before I knew it, we were already in front of the bar entrance. It was only a ten minute walk.
The bar was placed in a basement of an old building. And to be honest, even though the district looked like your typical ghetto, it had some charm to it. From underneath the door and through some holes you could see the inviting light of the basement bar. We went down the stairs and opened the door. It looked like almost everybody that was sent here had already arrived. Gabrielle was at the bar, well it was her workplace, but I guess she mixed herself some drinks as well. Then there was Frank, Gabrielle´s husband, he was sitting on the bar chair right next to Gabrielle. On the couch were sitting Tobi and Sasha. Vivienne was completely sure that sooner or later their gay relationship was revealed, but I did not think so. On a chair in the end of the room sat a new face. It was a eastern looking girl about 20 years old or at least so it seemed.
„Took you long enough, lulu!“, Tobi had a thing for giving people nicknames that irritate them. And he did not exclude me. Sadly...
„Can you cut it out?“, I simply asked him not very motivated, I still wanted to sleep and for some reason being tired made me become a bitch.
„Well what do we know?“, Vivienne asked not giving a shit about other conversations. Everybody in the room tensed up and an awkward silence won over the room.
„Maybe we should introduce us to her first?“, I whispered in Vivienne´s ear.
She started to get red cheeks.
„Ohh right, I´m Vivienne and this is Louis and his brother Nathan. We call him Nagi though. Would you mind telling us something about youself?“. Vivienne went to her and took a chairs from the bar to be able to sit right next to her. The new girl looked somewhat absent, like we did it the beginning I believe.
She looked down, clearly she was not in the mood to talk.
„Give her a rest. She has gone trough a lot. I can explain it to you“, Frank pointed at the door to the back room.
„Where do you think you´re going?“, Nagi already wanted to go with us, but whenever Frank wanted to talk in the back, it was getting serious.
Suddenly I felt a sough in my head. It was a sensation like I never felt before. Like a somewhat was inside my brain.
„Ergg...“
„Hey!!“, was the last thing I heard before my eyes gave up on their function completely.
I felt like I was in a deep sleep. But instead of a dream, there was nothing.
The only sensation I felt was the sough from before. It was a little clearer now. It was a voice, but it was still to unsteady for me to understand.
The next thing I knew was waking up in the back room on the couch.
