Red, a color of powerful seduction that flowers out to pull in is what drapes the curves of her body. Red nails with slender fingers that could pull at the strongest of men’s hearts. Red lips that could suck the very soul of any they pressed against. Red eyes that suggested wisdom beyond her years and an alluring visage that her thin eyebrows were raised against. Red hair that fell past her shoulder in thick curls that had a hint of rose and something so thick that it could only be described as sinister.
A seductress of a kind, but more than that.
'It is a wonder that you keep finding yourself in this situation,' the voice echoed in her head, one of a man.
“And what may that situation be?” She asked after a short pull on her cigarette, flicking the ash onto the floor.
'Watching him,' this time the voice wasn’t so taunting, it was loud and angry.
“You know as well as I, that my efforts cannot be tempered, he is coming in fine on his own.”
'He does not listen to me as-'
“He listens to you, just not always, what on earth do you expect of a child?” She put out her cigarette and stared down into the flames beneath her feet, pictures dancing before her eyes until she felt herself pulled in.
She stumbled to an abrupt stop in a patch of short grass. She steadied herself, eyes alert, and turned her head over her shoulder. She walked carefully and quietly, she made not a sound, not as if she could even be heard in this realm.
Beyond a crowd of vibrant green bushes was a young boy playing with a small pup. He looked the innocent kind and the strange. Born with white hair and vibrant blue eyes, almost like an angel, but his wings must’ve been clipped.
The boy laughed as the small pup jumped up in his lap with his two front paws in his chest until he tumbled over in the grass being greeted by a warm wet tongue.
She found herself smiling, she brought her hand up to her face and felt the cracks in her shell.
'It looks like you and this vessel still don’t agree. The voice taunted, don’t be fond of him; it’ll only hurt you.'
She continued looking at him with her smile fading out now, she was aware of her role but wanted something more than that. She didn’t even notice her hand on her stomach, but it was there, pressed hard, almost clenching past the fabric. She wanted to be what she should be, his mother.
'Lilith,' the voice warned, but she ignored it and approached the child. She knelt beside him, he was unable to see her, but he could feel her, she could tell by the way he pushed the pup away and looked frightened.
“Sweet child…” she whispered, her hand reaching out until it touched his cheek, “I’m sorry for the pain that will come in your later years, but I promise it won’t last long.”
Suddenly, the boy was looking up, looking directly at her as if he could see her. The puppy began yipping and letting out half-hearted growls, it’s little tail wagging ferociously.
“Who are you?” He asked, eyes blinking wide.
Lilith stumbled back; her world spun around her all the colors melting before she found herself again in her dingy old cabin, unable to catch her breath.
'You want what you can’t have, I did not give you this vessel so you could love, I gave it to you for another reason!'
“I know, dammit!” She slammed her hand down on the table, her skin breaking off like she were a porcelain doll that was dropped from the top shelf. “I just haven’t had a child of my own in so long, I hate to say that I missed the idea and the feeling… it feels like the moment doesn’t belong to me.”
'Because it doesn’t, you know your purpose, or should I find another soul for this task?'
“No… No,” She settled down into the chair feeling moisture under her lashes, “I more than respect a contract, I live by it. He will be yours, a model of death himself.”
