Though Sol had said he would leave his twin brother alone with Lei, he could not totally abide by it. Not until he was certain that Lei was true to her words.
Hiding himself between shops opposite the Wing Café, Sol patiently waited for the date to finish while hoping that this time, he had found the right woman for Luna. He wanted his twin brother to love and be loved in return. Luna deserved that much.
Sol sighed and looked up at the orange-colored sky. He was willing to stick beside Luna for the rest of their lives, but no matter how long he stayed with him, he could never fill the void that their mother had carved deep within the soul of his twin brother.
Every single day, Sol was noticing that the longing in Luna’s eyes were growing more evident, even though he was always with him. His presence would never be enough to ease the yearning of his twin brother.
If Sol could give Luna another mother, he would do it without any hesitation. But since mothers are one of a kind and cannot be replaced, Sol can only try to find a deserving woman for Luna to love.
Not more than fifteen minutes had passed when Luna left Wing Café with Lei. His twin brother was beaming happily while talking with his date.
Sol also smiled. That was the first time Luna looked that cheerful on his birthday. It seemed that Sol had made the right choice with Lei.
When his teammate Glenn told him that he wanted Luna to date his younger sister, Sol was hesitant.
Glenn never liked Luna but he obviously loved his sister more than he disliked Sol’s twin brother.
He told Sol that Lei was as different as Luna. They were introverts that wanted to hide themselves and enjoy isolation. The only company they could tolerate was with their siblings.
Glenn and Lei were as inseparable as Sol and Luna. When they were not at school, they would spend dinners and weekends together. They would either compete at basketball, video, or board games. They would also eat in front of the television and binge watch whatever series they found online, until both of them dozed off. They would help each other in assignments and school projects. Even in household chores, they were assisting one another. Glenn and Lei were that close, but for the past few days, Lei was becoming distant to Glenn. She always had excuses to lock herself up in her room. Each time Glenn asked what was wrong with her, she would only smile sweetly and say “I’m okay, brother.”
Glenn was afraid that Lei was suffering from depression. That was the reason he resorted to giving Lei blind dates. He wanted his beloved sister to spend more time out of her room, out of their house, and be with people that could help her out of depression.
He forced Lei to go out with several of his friends. She happily agreed to each date, but after a day of dating, both his sister and his friend would agree to never go out together ever again.
When Glenn asked what was lacking with his friends, Lei honestly told him that she could never like people that were outgoing and always seeking attention. Being around with a lot of people was exhausting for her. She wanted someone that was like her, an introvert. Someone that would enjoy being with her and only with her.
Hearing those words from Lei, Glenn thought that maybe she wanted someone like Luna.
Listening to Glenn’s story, Sol thought that maybe Lei and Luna could be a perfect match.
Sol talked to Lei and told her things about Luna. When she heard a few similarities between them, she agreed to have a date with him.
Now Luna and Lei were having a good time together. Lei even remembered how special that day was to Luna and brought him a birthday present.
It was a bracelet. And Lei was thoughtful enough to wear it around Luna’s right wrist. But after locking the bracelet, she gently rolled up Luna’s sleeves and gazed at his beaten arm with what seemed like a wicked smile. Sol was as shocked as his twin brother when that smile curved on her lips. And when Luna fainted from the passionate kiss Lei had given him, Sol was terrified.
Lei caught Luna before he hit the ground then, as if everything had already been planned, a black sedan parked in front of them. A broad-shouldered man came out from the passenger seat and helped Lei move Luna inside the car.
Sol ran but the stoplight was glowing red and a lot of cars were passing swiftly in front of him. He never liked rush hours. He could not cross the pedestrian on time. Fortunately, he saw the plate number. He quickly typed it on his cellphone and sent it to Martin Dancel, their father.
He was always reminding Sol and Luna to be careful and if something weird happened, they should immediately tell him about it.
After a minute or so, when the stoplight turned green, Sol hurried across the pedestrian and, luckily, there was a taxi that immediately responded to his frantically waving arms.
“Sir, can you drive faster? We need to follow a black sedan with this plate number,” he had shown the number from his sent messages and pleaded, “We need to find this car. I need to save my twin brother.”
