I’m forced awake by the noise in the kitchen. Yawning, I rub my face as Morgan peeks his head around the corner.
“Sleep well?”
I groan, rolling to grab my phone and completely unaware of how close to the edge I am until I faceplant into the floor. Pushing myself up into a sitting position, I rub my stinging nose and glance at the phone. Six am? Why is he up so early?
“You only had three hours of sleep?” I ask incredulously. He shrugs.
“I haven’t slept yet. Taejin is waking everyone up so you can head out. I thought you would like to eat something real quick before you left.”
I nod. “Thanks.” Getting up, I shuffle to the bathroom to wash my face. Dragon storms inside, kicking the door close with his foot.
“Hey!” I snap.
“Shut up. I gotta go,” he grumbles, half awake as he starts unzipping his pants.
Sunshine storms down the hall. “Has anyone seen my shirt?” Why would he be shirtless?
“In the room,” Jun calls out.
“It wasn’t in there.” I hear him making his way back to the room.
Leaving the bathroom, I cross my arms. “Why are you shirtless in the first place?”
Sunshine shrugs. “I don’t know.”
Jun sticks his head out of the kitchen. “You said you were hot and stripped. You threw it somewhere and went back to sleep.”
Sunshine’s sputters, “And you let me!?”
“Anything I said went in one ear and out the other.” He shrugs.
“Admit it, Jun. You love seeing me half naked.” Sunshine goes into the room and begins tearing through it.
I can hear Jun scoffing in the other room. “You’re not my type.”
“Thank God for that,” Sunshine grumbles before I hear him go Aha! He comes out wearing his wrinkled shirt. “I couldn’t date you. You’re too clingy.”
“Come in and eat before you two start a fight about why you wouldn’t date each other,” Morgan growls.
Taejin sits at the table with a cup of coffee in his hand. “He’s right. We’re leaving in thirty minutes.”
All of us scramble to the table and quickly begin eating. When it’s time to head out, everyone says goodbye to Morgan. I watch a few give him a hug.
“Don’t be a stranger in calling us.” Jun hugs him tightly. “We can talk about anything.”
“I’ll call you everyday.”
“You mean it?” Jun’s face lights up. “You can’t go back on your word.” He grabs Morgan’s pinky and seals the promise by touching thumbs before he bounces away from us.
I give him a hug. “Take care of yourself.”
“You do the same,” he mumbles.
We walk down the pathway to the driveway and my eyes stray to the beach. It was fun while it lasted. A motorcycle pulls up near the curb and a figure swings their leg off it before undoing the bag that is strapped on the back.
“Oh wait!” Morgan calls out. The figure walks towards us, the helmet still in place as they stop in front of Morgan.
“Morgan, right?” My head snaps up at the courier’s words. That voice is familiar. They hand the pad over. “Sign please.” The person turns to look at us. Pulling the helmet off, she gives me a confused look before perking up. We both recognize each other.
“Ah!” We both say in unison.
“You delivered food to us before.” Did she do this job too?
She grins. “How weird is it that we’re meeting again? I’m Riley.” She holds her hand out.
“Jay.” We shake hands.
Morgan hands the pad back to her and she quickly thanks him. “Got to go. I have a billion more errands to run. See you later, Jay.”
I watch as she slips the pad into her leather jacket and slaps the helmet back onto her head. Weird indeed.
“These are you for everyone. I was hoping it would come before you left.” Morgan hands me a bag and I take it, surprised at how heavy it is.
“What’s in here?”
“You’ll see. Have a good flight.”
I climb into the SUV, laying the bag next to me. “What’s that?”
“Dunno,” I mumble. “I guess we can see once we’re on the plane.”
The ride to the airport is quiet with everyone in their own thoughts. I stare out into the cloudy sky, feeling the same way as the clouds swirl ominously around in the sky.
“Oh cool!” Sunshine chuckles. I look behind me. Someone had snatched the bag from the chair. He begins pulling out clothes and snacks. “Look at this stuff!”
“Did Morgan really get this for us?” Jun leans forward. “Ah, he’s the best. I swear, if you dump him, Kang, you’re dead.”
“Why? Because he’s buying you things?”
The two of them begin play fighting.
Hajoon hands me an envelope. “It’s for you.”
Me? I open it and two tickets to an aquarium fall out along with a typed message.
“As you have faith in me, I’ll have faith in you. Thanks for accepting me into your family. This isn’t much, but this is from the bottom of my heart. From, your little brother.”
I smile. This kid. I hold the tickets up and pucker my lips. The question is, who would I take with me?
“What did you get, Jay?” DaeDae leans over the seat to look at the ticket.
“Sit back,” I order. He tries to snatch the tickets away but I jerk my arm away just in time. “Don’t even think about it.”
“All I’m saying is that I’m the better choice.” He grins mischievously before leaning back in his chair. We finally make it to the airport and I can feel the anticipation in my veins. This is only the beginning.
