Day 1
Damn brat follows me out of her ruined house.
I walk one step, she walks one step.
I take a left, she takes a left.
Snapping my head back, I glare at her. She stops.
But once I move forward, she moves too.
“Stop following me!” I snarl.
She follows still.
Maybe she’ll give up after a few hours.
Day 2
She followed me the entire way after all. But fret not, I wake up early and sneak out when she’s sleeping.
I break into a jog.
“Hey, Li Wai. Where are you going? she says groggily.
That’s the last straw. I have to get rid of her.
I close the distance between us and grab her by her neck.
Mustering the most sinister voice I can, I growl, “Follow me again and I’ll kill you.”
She simply stares at me for a while before speaking. “If I don’t follow you, I die. If I follow you, then so be it – I die too.”
I look for a flicker of fear in her eyes but I see none. Exasperated, I release my grip and stomp away.
Of course she follows.
Day 3
Caught a small rabbit today. First big catch since quite a while.
I roast its meat slowly while eyeing her. It’s been two days since she’s eaten. The morsels of food I had with me, I had not shared with her.
She must be starving. But she doesn’t say anything.
I can see she’s salivating though.
I sigh. I don’t have it in me to kill someone, be it directly or indirectly.
I carve out a piece and throw it to her.
She wolfs it down but immediately starts choking as it’s still hot.
“Slowly!” I snap and pour out a little water from my reserve, handing it to her.
After gulping it down, she utters a small sigh and beams at me.
Looks like I’m stuck with this girl.
Day 4
Just my luck. Blame my inattentiveness, my lack of sleep, whatever.
We’re in trouble.
Two wolves right in front of us, baring their teeth.
It’s not good to run. Neither is it to stare.
I start shouting, all the while backing away slowly. She follows in my steps behind me.
The wolves remain still.
The distance between us and the wolves keep growing. This is going good.
And then all of a sudden, an uprooted branch trips me!
Falling backwards, I see the wolves closing in. Not good, not good at all!
When I think I see my end coming near, someone steps in front of me and begins yelling.
Shocked, I realize it’s her.
She has a few rocks in her hand that she throws at the wolves who immediately back away, still snarling.
Her hand is outstretched behind her and I take it, pulling myself up.
She continues the shouting and I join in.
Soon, we’re far enough away and we collapse to the ground.
Panting, I utter a small “Thanks, little pig.”
She snaps, “It’s Wu Zetian!”
“Tch, you little pig.”
It’s not so bad having you with me after all.
