Rosalind was an average girl for her age of the good families, at least she pretended to be. She was just curious, always curious. She couldn’t see or think something without questioning it. ”Why is the sky blue?’’ “Why do girls wear dresses?” But as she got older her questions were looked down on more and more, ”Why must we clean, and men work?” “How can you live with the fact that your love was set up?” “How do you know that he didn’t deserve a second chance, only death?” But Rosalind was from one of the most well-respected families so no one held her curiosity against her. Her one sister Belle was married to Prince Adam, otherwise known as “The Beast’’ .They had a successful fairy tale and now are living happily ruling the kingdom of Lilywater. Rosalind always envied her sister for being naturally not inquisitive. Belle would always fit in in a way Rosalind never could. Rosalind prefered playing with wooden swords then painting them. After all, what’s the use of a painting if it’s not real. Maybe there was another world out there; somewhere where you could choose to be a knight in shining armour, maybe even fall in love with one of the same sex. However she instantly snorted, what a silly thought! That would never be possible, it would be like a princess wearing jeans, imagine that. She sighed, she was late for her dreaded etiquette class with Madame Benoîte, she would have to stay extra late now because “a princess can’t be late”. Ugh, Madame Benoîte’s words were echoing through her head. That also meant she would have to change out of her slippers and into her heels. How she dreaded the heels, they were so uncomfortable and her evening slippers were the only comfortable shoes she had. As she stumbled down the stairs not even taking the time to brush her hair, Liam, her brother threw her a dirty look. He was surrounded by what seemed like all the girls in the kingdom. As Rosalind walked past she caught a smell of what seemed like millions of cheap perfumes. She didn't understand, they were all throwing themselves at him even though they didn't know him. What a guy, if only she had a sword now, she smirked. Sh*t, she was already thirty minutes late to her class. Rosalind sprinted down the corridor just to slam into Madame Benoîte… and her tea. “How many times have I told you!” “Don’t run, it's not ladylike.” Rosalind said in a sarcastic tone. “And do not interrupt people, do not speak in that tone, and for goodness sake do not combine two words into one. Acting like that you will never find a prince” spoke Madame benoîte in a breathy tone. Her breath smelled like old roses, disgusting. “ I DON’T WANT A PRINCE!” Rosalind screamed. “You do not understand, do you, you never will, will you. You ignorant child, we women need princes, they need to save the day, without them we would all be dead” Rosalind scoffed, no she was the one who would never understand. Just then her father arrived “ Rose” her father had called her that ever since he returned from the great war. He said they were everywhere. He believed they were much like she was. So beautiful yet so strong. Unfortunately, she didn't know if he just meant that she could endure the hardships of wearing a corset. She was strong but she never had a chance to show it. She almost snickered at the thought. Good job! While people were starving on the south side of our kingdom you put on a pretty face and wore a corset. “ Rose?” “Yeah, I mean yes, hello, excuse me” Rosalind mumbled. “Are you sure these lessons are working he whispered to Madame Benoîte “I am not sure anymore” sighed Madame. “ Anyways, I do have someone for you to meet!” Not this again, she thought, the last time he brought someone for Rosalind he brought a ring. How can you decide you will marry someone without even meeting them first. Not only that but she found out that her father really just introduced him to her because their kingdom was richer than her’s and according to her father “more money is never a bad thing” And just like that he had brought another one. ‘’ father, first of all I can’t even marry someone my story hasn’t started’’. Roselind knew this always worked with him, he had to follow the rules he bestowed on his kingdom. However just then the door creaked open. ‘´ sorry‘´ murmured rosalind's father, he is the prince and soon to be king Julius”. But it was only rose bearers she saw. Then she saw the prince with gold plated armour, she groaned, he was one of those princes. He went in for a kiss, « Ewwww » whoops she said that out loud! She turned her head at the last minute. « Errr, sorry” “be proper” murmured madame benoit in a snappy voice. “Sorry, um I’m sure your great and all but I’m not really looking to be in a relationship right now so…” Rose said this as she shoved him out of her princess class after all this was a room for princesses not princes. What a relief she thought. Now it was time to here lectures, from her dad, madam and soon her mom too. But before they had started she said “please don’t start, I couldn’t. not him… he was too… well, you know”. While she expected a response they just stood in silence then walked away. As she tried to apologize for her rudeness all her father could say was “ it’s okay I know you don’t understand”. This made her sad but there was still some anger that she just couldn’t get rid of. She knew she wasn’t like everyone else but something didn’t feel right she didn’t think love or “true love” would feel like she did. She didn’t know why but it felt wrong. She began to wonder if she was just weird or if there was really something wrong but as she had supper that night her family ate in silence. She always wanted to fit in but that didn’t fit in in her personality. What if she acted normal. Rose could go to all her classes and act all princessey maybe even consider dating a prince. Cringe. Not yet. “Rose?!” . That was her mom. Roseland had been murmuring everything out loud. The second time today! Even the maids and servers cracked a smile. Well she would just have to follow her plan. Then her tarnished reputation would improve there would be a story about her and she would fit in, in the book.
