I awoke with a jolt panting as I grabbed for the blanket hugging it to my face. It had been quite some nightmare and even more frightening still was the fact that I had never even considered that before. What if it was true? I brought a hand over my mouth shivering lightly at the thought.
“Onyx, are you awake yet?” Starburst questioned as the door shut softly behind him, “You have a lot of work to do today!” He slowly marched his way up the stairs as I sat beneath the covers still shivering, “Hey, wake up, you lazy vampire!”
“Star…!” I whimpered tackling the neko in a tight embrace, “It’s so awful… You have to answer me honestly now!!!”
“Geez, why didn’t you say anything, Idiot?!? You scared me nearly half to death!” The ginger-haired boy ran a hand up and down my back lightly as though soothing a child, “You’re not still dreaming, are you?”
“No…” I mumbled into his shoulder, “There’s no way I could sleep after that…”
“Seriously, what’s bothering you?” He griped placing his hands on my shoulders as he pushed me away carefully, “What exactly do you me to tell you right now?
“Starburst, you have to tell me…” I said seriously clutching onto his arm tightly, “Am I ugly?”
. . .
We had settled at the dining room table as Starburst served me my morning coffee and I looked at the cat anxiously weaving my fingers together as my look turned to a desperate stare, “You haven’t answered me…” I huffed holding my arms across my chest as the coffee was pushed toward me carefully, “You must think it’s true if you’re not answering…”
Starburst gave a sigh in response as he sat across my me nursing at his own cup of coffee as he gave me an inquisitive glance, “Why are you asking all of a sudden? You never thought that before, did you?” He paused as I looked away pulling the mug to my lips blowing lightly at the fluid before taking a long sip, “It’s fairly subjective, to begin with…”
“Well, I’m a vampire…” I muttered a bit more forcefully than I intended, “I can’t see my reflection, so how am I supposed to know what I look like? What I’m really ugly and I don’t even know it…”
“You’re not ugly.” Starburst replied certainly turning his face away as a light dusting of red came to his cheeks, “You’re definitely not ugly…”
I perked up a bit of red coming to my own face as I rose to my feet strolling over to the catboy before placing my arms around his shoulders, “Could you say that again? I won’t believe you unless you keep saying that over and over.”
“Shut up… It’s not like you didn’t hear me the first time!” Starburst shouted trying to hide the heat on his face his with sleeve before running off to start on the chores, “I certainly don’t think you’re awful to look at!”
