After her misadventure at the StarLab, Margot Verne was ready to present her findings to the rest of the group. She had called both her friends Sunday evening, giving them the cliff notes version of what happened. Joe and Aria had more questions, wanted more answers but Margot insisted that they wait. She needed to go through the book, she had to be certain, 100% positive that what she found was real. She held an emergency meeting on Friday morning when they would all have time in the morning to meet each other.
"What were you thinking!?"
Once they gave her a chance to speak of course.
She had just finished explaining to her friends what had happened on Sunday and just as she expected, both of them were furious with her. Aria was leaning forward in her chair while Joe sat next to her in stunned silence. Not for the first time she observed what an interesting group of friends they made. All of them so different from one another and yet they all had so much in common. They all believed in the unknown, that there were things that existed side-by-side with their world. A supernatural world and they wanted to find as much as she did.
"Aria, Joe, really, it wasn't that big a deal." Margot assured her. Which was true...from a certain point of view. In his seat next to her Joe was having none of it.
"I think we can all agree that breaking our team's most important rule is kind of a big deal Margot. Especially when you encounter a... shadow entity!" Joe said bluntly.
“You said Taya was there? How is she? We haven’t heard from her all summer!” Aria asked, anxious to hear from their old friend.
“Good, at least when I left.”
“I haven’t been able to get a hold of her since she changed her phone number.” Joe said. Or her email. She even deleted her social media accounts. He thought to himself. Why though? “Why was she at the Star Lab again?”
“Her boyfriend Henry is a Physics Major. According to her, someone called her cell phone using Henry’s number and threatened him. I’m certain it has to be the shadow entity we encountered.” Margot explained.
“My God!” Aria whispered.
“I know I was busy at Temple but I could have helped if you’d texted me.” Joe said.
"OK! You guys, you're right. It was dumb of me to try that by myself. Believe me, as a black woman, I should know better. However." She held up her hand when they tried to speak again, "I found something amazing!"
Aria was wide-eyed. Joe leaned forward in his chair. He asked, "Did you record proof?"
Margot winced, "Yes. Except Dr. Douglas took my camera and the evidence I recorded." She growled. “I tried to get it back but with the police about to arrive, I was afraid he’d blame me for the whole thing. So, I ran.”
“We’re just glad you're safe.” Aria reassured her.
“Promise us you won’t go anywhere by yourself again.” Joe asked her. “I don’t want to lose-”
“I know. Neither do I.” Margot interrupted gently. Taking a deep breath Margot continued.
“Yet, in spite of losing video evidence, Taya and I found something better.” She took out the book from her bag, holding it out for them to take. Aria reached out to grab it but when she touched it she pulled back as if burned. Joe took it instead. He studied the cover, opened it and looked through the pages
"What is it?" He asked.
Aria answered him, clutching her fingers to her chest. "Its Trisha's diary."
