Susans pale slender 5’2” frame cowers into the corner, her beautiful skin tight white satin mermaid dress covered in blood, her honey blonde hair pasted to her neck, her olive green eyes darting around the room in terror. “Did you see what happened to Meghan?” I say pointing to the door.
“Uh huh” Susans nod barely visible through her quivering.
“What happened?”
“I’m not entirely sure. The girls went outside for a smoke and when they came back they said some guy bit Jennifer,’’
“Well where is Jennifer”
Susan pointed towards her bathroom door, “dead.” she stated staring blankly at the door.
“What happened Susan, where is everyone else?”
“Jennifer passed out while we patched her up and when she woke up, she wasn’t herself, her face went pale her breathing was labored and raspy, she attacked Meghan, i couldn’t get her off so I hit her over the head with the toilet tank cover to get her away from Meghan and we locked her in there but it was already too late for Meghan half her face was gone,” Susan starts sobbing, “she didn’t want me to see her like that so she left, obviously if you saw her she didn’t get too far.” she sputters.
“No, she didn’t. We need to get out of here.’’
“What about Chad?”
“We can go get the boys but if it’s not safe we are leaving without them”
“Okay” Susan nods
“Take off your heels”
Susan takes off her six inch stiletto heels carefully “why do I have to take off my heels?” she asks.
“One they can be used as weapons and two you’re faster barefoot” I say as I take one shoe from Susan. I open the door very slowly checking the hall, Meghan’s nowhere to be seen. We slowly make our way through the halls to the ceremony room. The white and pink roses that lined the aisle now splattered with blood, the hand carved white oak benches littered with corpses and blood stains, the only thing not stained with blood was the white rose arch behind the podium. I hear a shuddering sob from behind me, “Susan I know this is hard but you have to stay quiet okay” I whisper to her while rubbing her back gently, hoping to soothe some of her sobs. She nods at me and wipes the tears from her eyes. As we walk down the aisle checking to make sure none of the bodies are Chad or his groomsmen I notice one of the bodies happens to be Susans’ mother laying in the front row missing a chunk of her right shoulder and half of her internal organs, I quickly spin around to shield Susan from seeing her mother but it was too late, she had seen it. I cover her mouth to muffle her cries as I drag her to the janitors closet down the hall, locking the door behind us, I gather her into a tight embrace and let her cry into my chest hoping it would muffle some of the sound. As her tears hit my shoulder I hear footsteps coming from the hallway, slowly getting closer, the subtle sound of groaning barely audible through the door, like Chad before his morning coffee.
