“Yeah I’m a decent shot too”
“Good” I look over to Liam and Chad. “We will be back. Make sure to get the bags from the kitchen and put them in the trunk as well.” As I slid my .357 into its holster on my thigh I take the bat from Chad and head out the door with James.
James follows making sure a round was already chambered in the glock mouthing safety checks to himself while keeping an eye out for more of those things in case any tried to sneak up on them. It was a two block walk to Susans’ house and I'm not going to lie I was terrified. Rounding the corner to her house, it wasn't just four anymore, there were seven of those things clawing at the side of her house. I turn looking to James "Got any ideas?" I ask, hoping James can pull a plan out of his ass faster than I can.
He looks pointing around back. "There's an ivy wall by the garden. Should be strong enough to hold your weight while you climb to the window on the second floor. It's never locked so easy entry. We should find an exit for you two before heading in."
"Well if we can get in through the back unnoticed then maybe we can get out through the back as well." I think for a second "Hopefully."
"I'll stay by the escape then. I know the ivy wall won’t hold me. Tried for a prank about a week ago. Broke one of the squares. We should hurry." He says leading me around making sure the coast was clear first.
As we round the back of the house I see a creeper walking across the garden. I quietly signal James to stop and stay quite as I slowly walk towards this thing. His eyes had faded white and his left ear appeared to be missing. I knew him. It was my neighbors son Kyle, he mowed my grass on Sundays after he got home from church. Kyle sees me, his cold dead eyes staring blankly at me as he stumbles towards me mashing his teeth together so hard I could hear it from 20 feet away. A single tear runs down my cheek. "I'm sorry Kyle." I whisper as I slowly lift the bat. "I'm so sorry." I swing the bat at his face so hard the impact vibrates all the way to my shoulders. I look down where Kyle has fallen, His face dented and leaking black ooze.
James walks over gently grabbing my shoulder sighing softly. "It had to be done. But whatever it was. It wasn't him anymore."
"I know, but he was only 15, it's not fair."
He shakes his head somberly. "It never is. Come on, let's focus on those we can save." He says pointing to the ivy wall.
