As the girls walked back inside, Emma decided that it was time to check on her parents.
"Hey mom!" Emma had texted her mother. "How are you?" There was no reply. 'She's probably at work,' she thought. She started to get nervous, so she texted on the family group chat.
"Hey mom, hey dad! How is your summer?" Once again, no reply. She called on the group chat, no answer. She turned her phone off and went to go find Melissa in the house. When she found her aunt, many tears were falling from her eyes.
"Hey, auntie?" she tapped her shoulder and asked. "What's wrong?"
"H-How am I going to say this..."
"Say w-what?"
"Y-Your dream... is t-true, I'm afraid. Your parents are... dead." Emma stood there in shock. She couldn't believe her ears.
"Um, auntie. I think I didn't hear you right... Can you say that again please?"
"Your parents are dead." she repeated.
"N-No! You must be lying!"
"I'm not, Emma." Melissa switched the television on and came the news.
"We have a reported murder at the state line of Missouri." The reporter started. "A couple found dead. Bodies were stabbed, beaten, and even eaten. Yes, eaten. They were found at 5:51 a.m. Police arrived at the scene..." Emma fell to her knees and started crying. She made a fist and hit the floor three times. Nova ran downstairs and gave Emma a tight hug. Then the rest came down with tears as well.
"We're so, so sorry, Emma," Bella sobbed.
"We need to get your belongings," Lynn suggested. "Let's go drive there now!"
"We can't..." Emma replied with disappointment.
"We can just ship it here!"
"Actually, that's a great idea!" Emma and Lynn smiled.
"But how are we going to do that?" Ari inquired.
"I have a friend that lives in San Antonio," Emma proclaimed. "I'll tell her what had happened, then I'll ask her if she can send it here."
"Yay!" Nova cheered.
"Why 'yay?'" the others asked.
"Emma gets to stay with us now!"
"Well I mean that is a good thing," Melissa agreed. "But it means she would have to start all over again. Plus, she'll have to go to a new school, make new friends, and leave everything behind there."
"Yeah but at-" All of a sudden, there was a knock on the door.
"I think I know who this is," Emma said reassuringly. She opened the door and there was a girl. With bright blonde hair, icy blue eyes, and thin lips.
"Hello," she said.
"Why hello, Hannah." Emma greeted with confidence.
