(ROSE walked back to her home, weakly opening the wooden door of her one roomed house and plopping down for the night, her face buried in the pillow.)

ROSE: Why does day have to come so early anyway

(VARIEUR, VALERIE, GRIBLIN Enter stage left, from the woods, holding torches, stakes and wearing onion wreaths around their necks. They begin to walk towards the houses while whispering.)

VARIEUR: So this is the place right?

GRIBLIN: Well just look at the place, either its abandoned or their vamps pretending to be human.

GRIBLIN: No town of people will stay in this late in the morning, plus those kids saw Lairu get dragged out this way, hasn’t come back since.

VALERIE: Don’t speak that way!

VALERIE: He could still be alive, you know that man always has his debts despite his luck.

(VARIEUR, VALERIE, GRIBLIN hides behind a wall and the three peer into a window)

VARIEUR: ...Well I guess that answers where he went.

VALERIE: Poor man, I suppose we should get this over with, Grib.

GRIBLIN: Yeah...

(GRIBLIN holds up his torch to the thatch roof then VARIEUR BELLING, VALERIE LINBURG, GRIBLIN LEVREAU, all dart off to the different houses and quietly start attacking, they open up windows and set things alight, then they do the same to all the roofs.)

Recorded audio: Who are you!?

Recorded audio: AAAAAAGH!

(ROSE rolls over then jumps up, panicked she looks around the room and starts heading towards the door as the wooden supports crumble and crush her under it. VARIEUR cautiously opens the door as one of his onions pops off the wreath and rolls to her, ROSE half-heartedly looks up at him and then passes out.)

                                                     (Scene Close)

(ROSE wakes up to see VALERIE changing a bowl of water. ROSE jumps back and falls off the bed.)

ROSE: W-who are you?

VALERIE: I’m sorry I scared you dear, I’m Valerie Linburg, I’ve lent you a room here so you can rest up and heal.

VALERIE: And I know you haven't been here long, but could you tell me what town you’re from I’m sure your family must be dreadfully worried, I can’t imagine what those vampires must have done to you.

ROSE: I… I don’t- I don’t know.

VALERIE: Oh goodness, well lunch will be done in about ten, come in when your ready, I’ve got some clothes out for you...

VALERIE: And let me know if you need anything.

ROSE: Okay, thank you ma'am.

(VALERIE smiles at her and leaves the room. ROSE stands up and scowls at the clothes.)

ROSE: To think… I’m so incompetent that I’ve been mistaken!

ROSE: The others must have escaped by now…

(In the bar part of the inn GRIBLIN sits alone and is complaining about the world again. VALERIE is cleaning her wine glasses, bowls and watering her flower vase. VARIEUR is eating lunch.)

GRIBLIN: You know, if it wasn’t for that damned succ-

Recorded Audio: Yeah yeah, we get it, your life’s a disaster

Recorded Audio: Yeah, your fantasies are becoming out of hand old man.

Recorded Audio: Hahahaha

(ROSE changes into the new clothes and quietly walks out the room, standing politely with her arms down, hand in hand)

GRIBLIN:      Fine, but you can't say that “human” in the other room isn’t a vamp

VARIEUR: Griblin! You can’t just go accusing people, you saw it last night like the rest of us, she doesn’t react to onions.

GRIBLIN: There was smoke coming off her in broad daylight!

VARIEUR: It was a burning building! There was smoke coming off all of us!

(ROSE clears her throat, VARIEUR, GRIBLIN, VALERIE turn and look at ROSE)

VALERIE: Oh, sorry about the fuss dear.

VARIEUR: Try not to mind Griblin either, he’s been fighting with town hall all morning over this nonsense.

VARIEUR: Also I’m Varieur Belling, I helped out during the raid.

VARIEUR: I know that Valerie will be busy here so if you need anything, just ask me.

(ROSE is given a plate and sits down to eat, GRIBLIN angrily leaves)

ROSE: Well Varieur, what other towns are near here? And are you willing to take me to any of them?

VALERIE: It seems she doesn’t have any memories, so It’d be a bit of a trip for you.

VARIEUR: Oh I see, well I can't guarantee a long trip, but there's Chova, Acorn’s Cove, and Newvena that are closest to us.

VARIEUR: Newvena would be the largest but we’d have to go through the mountain to get there. Acorn’s Cove is a bit of a distance, but then it’d be easier to go by ship to the other towns.

ROSE: How about Newvena then, there would be more people there and maybe there’s a notice up.

VARIEUR: Hmmm.

VARIEUR: I suppose that works, though if you know that much, do you have an idea of where we should go in Newvena?

ROSE: Uh, well.

ROSE: I… think it’s more of a feeling?

(VARIEUR’s face popped up eagerly and happy)

VARIEUR: You mean like a prophecy or something?

VALERIE: Oh you’re just looking for an excuse to go on an adventure.

VARIEUR: eeeh, and what’s wrong with that?

VALERIE: ... Well, I suppose your helping someone out in the process.

                                                 (Scene Close)

(VARIEUR hands ROSE an opened map)

VARIEUR: So we’re here and Newvena is here.

ROSE: I see…

(VARIEUR starts packing stuff on the cart, GRIBLIN enters stage right.)

GRIBLIN: And where do ya’ll think your going?

VARIEUR: What? I thought you didn’t like our new guest?

GRIBLIN: You can’t just let a vamp escape town and she’ll probably kill you.

GRIBLIN: Besides with all that's going on you can’t even trust strangers anymore, let alone outsiders.

VARIEUR: You’re an outsider here Grib, should I not trust you either?

GRIBLIN: You’ll regret this.

VARIEUR: Just because you were right about the vampire village last time doesn’t correct the hundreds of times you were wrong.

ROSE: How many survivors were there anyway?

(GRIBLIN starts shaking his pointer finger at her.)

GRIBLIN: See!?

VARIEUR: Just you, Lairu was found too, but he had already passed.

GRIBLIN: Fine then, you’ll regret not listenin’ to me.

(GRIBLIN storms to stage left and exits, VARIEUR get on the cart and holds out a hand.)

VARIEUR: Well I suppose we should get on our way.

(ROSE grabs ahold and hops on)

ROSE: Seems to be for the best.

VARIEUR: I told you not to mind Grib.

VARIEUR: Mr. Levreau’s always had a stick up his.

ROSE: Even if he didn’t, he’d still be annoying to deal with.

VARIEUR: True, I don’t think he’d change much. Though it seems I gotten you to talk more.

ROSE: Oh no, now I’m the one being deceived!

VARIEUR: Hahaha

VARIEUR: Well it appears that we are getting close to the mountain.

ROSE: It does.

VARIEUR: Well keep your eyes peeled for the gorgers.

ROSE: Okay. Wait!

ROSE: Is that one there!?

(ROSE points at a random direction away from the carts exit, VARIEUR spins around and follows the pointing)

VARIEUR: Where!?

(ROSE slashes at VARIEUR’s neck and jumps off, running to up stage left, VARIEUR grabs at his neck, and chases her)

VARIEUR: Aarg, Hey!?

(ROSE trips at down stage left)

VARIEUR: What are you doing? Why?

VARIEUR: I-I thought…

ROSE: You’re too nice.

ROSE: You really are, Varieur.

(ROSE rushes back up and exits at stage left, VARIEUR collapses to his knees and coughs)
