Stranger POV:
I’ve been watching Angel since I chained him up outside. Least when I have a chance to anyway. I watch him struggle to get free, fly around in his short reach or whatever he decided to do. I thought of other ways I could have kept him but, I think keeping him chained by the neck was the best.
One time while feeding Angel, I noticed that the collar he wore around his neck, least the ring where the chain was attached, had come loose. The weld was not holding very well. It wasn’t enough to get the chain out of the gap but if got me thinking that I had best replace the collar soon.
I also needed to get him a longer chain than what he has. At least so he could reach the shed. He’s been pestering for release and some kind of shelter. I wouldn’t let him go, nor would my son or wife. But I could at least give Angel somewhere to take shelter in but still be chained up.
I had started looking through some interesting websites on my time away from work. Least when Salinthia or Artimis didn’t need me anyway. I was browsing specifically for a nice collar for Angel. I wanted something nice and strong but also light in weight. I wanted something that would insure he could not get it off.
It took some time to find such a collar, going through many different websites and pages, till I came across one that I think would look nice on Angel’s neck.
The collar, least in the picture and description, was black in color. Full titanium construction for durability but also lighter weight. Hinge designed in such a way that there was no exposure of the hinge itself while also being very durable. The lock is a cylinder lock, multi pin keyed, designed to pass into a fitting in the collar to lock it. The collar also had a solo ‘D’ ring fully smithed onto it. Placed so it was centered between the hinge on one side of the half band and the lock’s hole. It was listed as being guaranteed to stay in place.
While on the expensive side, I ordered the collar. After selecting the proper size for Angel’s neck. I also ordered a length of chain about twice as long as the one Angel has now. The chain also being black in color. A light weight steel chain with a pair of swivels already added to each end of the chain.
I’m just going to use padlocks to secure the chain to the collar as well as to the metal rod Angel’s chained to now.
----
The package with the collar arrived right after a storm had passed through along with the chain. I brought everything inside and tested it all out. I also showed Salinthia and Artimis the new stuff for Angel. Artimis was pleased and wanted to put it on Angel’s neck now. My wife was a bit indifferent though. She didn’t care as long as Artimis was happy, she was okay with it.
I had to tell Artimis that we couldn’t put the collar on Angel now, I wanted to see what happened with Angel first. A little sadistic of me to do so but then I liked to watch him struggle.
I also ordered and got a little later a needle and an anesthesia that I could use on Angel should he break free a little un-aware to us.
----
Lo and behold, I come home only to find that Angel had indeed managed to escape the collar. Oddly, he had not tried to fly away yet. I thought this to be a little odd. I saw him stumble but keep his footing.
I decided to act quickly but not too quickly. So I grabbed the syringe with the anesthesia in it, carefully keeping the cap over the needle so I don’t stick myself and hurried outside. I put the syringe into my shirt pocket carefully, hoping to not crush it. I also grabbed the keys to the lock on Angel’s collar, putting those into my pants pocket.
I suppose if Angel saw me, he would have turned and flew off. I had to thank my lucky stars that he was turned away from me. And even though he got the chain loose from the collar, he was still holding onto it. I found this a little strange as well but whatever.
I came up right behind Angel and spoke, "So I see Angel is trying to escape. Well, can't have any of that now can we?" Nearly chuckling after finishing the question.
The effect of the question worked. Angel threw his wings open and was getting ready to leap into the air. He even did try to leap but I was quicker. I Grasped hold of Angel from behind, kind of using his wings to my advantage to get a hold of him. I then pushed him forward onto the ground before us. He might have gotten away if it wasn’t for his sudden reaction.
Once I had Angel pinned down to the ground under me, he started to squirm around, trying to get out from under me. I just kept Angel pinned down, keeping my cool as much as I could while I did so. Sure I could have slapped him or something to make him behave better. But, I didn’t want that. His wild nature was something I did not want to break. It was entertaining to myself as well as Artimis. Salinthia didn’t seem to care any though. She was more content just doing the things she wants to do.
After a bit, while still holding the struggling Angel down, I heard him start to cry. Not the first time I’ve heard it and I doubt it would be the last. I could tell from the sound of the crying that he was frustrated. I would just let him struggle and cry as I wasn’t about to let him go.
After about maybe 20 minutes of Angel struggling, he started to settle down under me. He didn’t stop crying though, just guessing the strength he had to struggle with has faded. Still I decided to wait a bit longer, keeping him pinned down under me.
Another 5 minutes after Angel stopped struggling, I decided to make my move. I carefully pushed back away from him just enough to get the syringe out of my shirt pocket. I was glad that it didn’t break. I pulled the cap off the needle then I stuck the needle into his left arm. I pushed the plunger on the syringe down, to get the anestesia into his bloodstream. Once the plunger was pushed to the end, I pulled the needle back out of Angel’s arm. I replaced the cap on the needle before putting the syringe to the side. I’ll have to grab that later.
I turned my attention back to Angel. I moved my hand to his head as he was still pinned under me and started to stroke his hair. He was our pet after all and well, I was going to treat him like one. The idea was to help him to relax more, to kind of help the drug into causing him to rest. He squirmed around some once more as I stroked his hair. I let out a soft chuckle and kept up the attention I was giving to him.
Either through the effect of the drug or the stroking I was giving to Angel, he was starting to relax and calm down, quite a bit. I couldn’t tell which but I decided to continue to stroke his hair some more anyway for a bit longer.
“Let’s take this off. Got you a better one anyway.” I said before moving my hand away from Angel’s hair and reached into my pants pocket. There, I pulled the keys out of the pocket, causing them to jingle some. I moved the keys to the lock on Angel’s collar. I then unlocked the collar and started to slide it from his neck.
After taking the collar off of Angel’s neck, I looked at his neck. I made a bit of a hiss sound as I saw that the collar I used before had caused some scratching to his neck. I shook my head, making a mental note to clean the area up some before I put the new collar around his neck. "Well, no matter. I hope the new one won't scratch you up like that. Such a pretty Angel. Rest..... Just rest." I said to him. I even started to stroke along his neck, carefully so as not to touch any of the scratches.
After a little bit, I could tell he was sleeping as he had started to snore. Wasn’t sure if it was from the touch I gave him or if it was the drug, or both, that caused him to slip into sleep. Either way, I knew I now had some time.
With Angel sleeping, under the effects of the drug, I pushed up off of him, leaving him lying there. I saw that Salinthia had come home and Artimis as well. They were both kind of watching me from the back porch. I gave them a smile and told them what had happened. Artimis wanted to pet Angel and I decided to let him do so, mentioning that I don’t think that Angel would likely feel it in the sleep that he was now in.
Salinthia shrugged and just went back inside to start making dinner, muttering “boys” before going inside. I warned Artimis, who had gone over to Angel, to not harm Angel any. Artimis promised he wouldn’t harm Angel and just started to stroke Angel’s form with a hand.
I made my way then over to the shed and cleaned it out. I was going to leave nothing in it other than some bedding Angel could use to rest on. I took everything from the shed over to the garage. I’ll sort through it later.
I went back through the house where I grabbed the new collar and chain for Angel. I also grabbed some rubbing alcohol so as to clean up the scratches on Angel’s neck. I stepped back outside and came up to where Artimis was still stroking Angel. He told me he liked Angel and I nodded. I also warned him to be careful, as I didn’t want either of them hurt.
“Angel’s a wild boy. Don’t approach him while he’s awake till we say otherwise okay? Okay?!?” I had to repeat the question to Artimis as Artimis seemed to not be paying attention to me. He mumbled a reply so I made him look at me and he repeated, “Okay dad, okay, sheesh.” Sounding just like me at his age. I let go and motioned him to step back a moment.
“Need to clean Angel’s neck. Then we’ll chain him up again.” I said to Artimis. He did step back so I was able to move in more.
I first cleaned up Angel’s neck as much as I could with the rubbing alcohol. I saw that none of the scratches were deep so figured they’d be able to heal with the new collar I was going to put around his neck. Was glad to see no signs of metal poisoning.
I then slipped the new collar around Angel’s neck. Checking the fit to make sure it was the right fit. It seemed just slightly more snug than the old collar I had used though still had some play to it. I fit the band around his neck so the flat half was at the back of his neck, the half with the… eer, guess you could call attachment point welded to it in front of his neck. The strong solid hammered hinge was on one side of his neck, the locking posts portion on the other.
I closed the collar all the way before testing to see how snug it was on Angel’s neck. I didn’t lock it yet as I wanted to be totally sure of the fit. Satisfied that it was a good fit, I pushed the lock into place through the lock pin holes. There was a satisfying click as the lock locked into place. I carefully tested to make sure the collar was indeed locked.
The collar was nice and secured in place. Angel should not be able to get it off nor phase it like he did the last one.
I do wish that the chain was already a part of the collar around Angel’s neck. Though I couldn’t complain too much as having such without consent is usually pretty illegal to do. Angel was now our family pet and I was not about to just let him go because he wanted to be free. I’ll figure out a way to get it so we can keep Angel. But that;ll have to come at a later time.
I grasped the longer chain I had brought with me, which I left off to the side before I locked the new collar around Angel’s neck.
Cause I didn’t want a repeat of last time, this time the chain will be locked to Angel’s collar. So I pulled up the end chain link with one of the swivels and threaded a padlock’s shackle clasp through the loose end of the swivel. I then threaded the shackle clasp of the lock through the eyelet on Angel’s collar.
To be kind of nice to Angel, I made sure the lock would face away from his neck so it wouldn't jab into him. I locked the padlock after that. I then gave the chain a small tug and saw that it was indeed locked to Angel’s collar. He should not be able to break free from it this time around. I even twisted the chain around a few times to insure that the swivel at his collar did it’s job. It did, it kept the chain from kinking up so it would keep the chain at the same length as much as possible.
I picked up the rest of the chain as I backed away from Angel. I told Artimis he could go back to petting Angel if he wanted to. Artimis was however playing on the toys we had around the yard. Angel would not be able to join Artimis there unless I gave Angel a chain around 100 foot from the rod he’d be chained to. I didn’t want Angel to have that much reach as then he’d be able to get in the house as well. Which I didn’t want. All I wanted Angel to be able to reach and step into would be the shed. Be kind of like a dog house for him. It would be upto Angel if he would stay in there all day and night or if he’d come out here. Only time will tell.
I unkinked and unkonted the chain as I made my way away from Angel. Soon I had one full clean line with no issues.
I sat the chain down onto the ground for now. I then cut the old chain away from the ring that was held to the rod. I made sure that the ring was pretty solid and it was very solid.
I slipped another padlock’s shackle clasp through the ring on the rod. I then slipped the open link of the second swivel on the chain over the lock’s shackle. I heard a moan from Angel as I think he was starting to wake up from his drug induced sleep. I could only chuckle a little as I guess it took me longer to do what I did. So, as I could hear Salinthia calling for me and Artimis to come for dinner, I locked the second padlock.
Once locked in place, I gave the chain a nice tug to make sure I couldn’t get it free from the rod. It held neatly in place. I knew if I couldn’t pull it free, neither should Angel.
I gathered up anything that was left laying loose including tools. Before putting them back and going to join my family inside for dinner.
I took one last look at Angel though, wondering what he’ll think of when he realizes he’s still chained up but has now twice the reach he had before.
