Samantha ended up staying over at Aberham’s house. This was a normal thing, and she normally grabbed her backpack from her Grandmother’s house when they were walking to school. Oddly enough, she couldn’t sleep. She was laying on the couch, a quilt pulled over her. She stared at the wall, trying to find sleep. She sat up, looking around her. Usually, she fell asleep instantly. Now, she felt like something was happening. Something bad.
Samantha stood and walked to the window, peeking out through the blinds at the moonlit street. Everything seemed fine... She shrugged the feeling off and laid back down into an uneasy sleep.
She woke up once more, looking at the black, sleek metal analog clock on the wall. Four-Fifty. A sharp feeling of pain shot through her chest, then her arm, then her stomach. She crouched over, falling off the couch. Samantha bit back a yell so she wouldn’t wake anyone. The pain faded, leaving her breathless on the floor. She clutched her stomach and chest. What was that? She tried to think-only to break into chest-wracking coughs.
When she finally felt like breathing didn’t hurt, Samantha looked around. Something happened. Something caused that. She stood, noting the fact that it was now five A.M. Ten minutes in pain. Wonderful. She folded the quilt, resigning herself to go home early. She wasn't thinking clearly, but Samantha knew she needed to get home. She scribbled out a note and set it on the couch, then left.
She walked down the street, trying to ease the anxiety she felt. Rather than calm, her nerves grew worse the closer she got to her house. She ran up the steps and put her key into the lock. Except, it was unlocked already. Grandma Mae was very careful to lock all the doors and windows. Why was the door open...?
Samantha eased the door open, key ready to hit someone
“Grandma Mae?” She stepped into the entryway. Things were knocked over. Then she walked down the hallway.
“Grandma Mae...?”
There was a trail of something dark on the shadowed floor. She stepped into the kitchen and saw things were missing. A crystal bowl on the counter, the China in the glass cabinet. She stepped into the living room and froze.
There was a body.
Covered in blood.
A frail, thin body.
Samantha screamed.
