"Can you bring these documents to Mrs. B?" James is asking someone, I look up to see if it could be me that he's asking for. As a president in the student council, his desk stands beside mine- who's a secretary-but my laptop blocking my view, so I'm not quite sure that he's asking me. "Suran," he emphasizes my name as he pointing the documents laying on side of his desk. "Oh, okay," I said. Knowing my cue I grab the documents and ready to go, but my mind not quite sure where I'm bringing it so I turn back to ask him again, "where's exactly again?". James furrowing his eyebrows, " Teacher's lounge, I told you" he repeats with annoyance. He is in a bad mood lately after he broke up with his girlfriend, Madison.
As I'm walking down to the teacher's lounge, one scene catches up my eyes. Hiram with Madison sitting closely together at the bench. I chuckle a little, understanding why James asking me to bring these documents. He knows Madison always brings her boyfriend to this specific place.
I stopped my way for a while and decide to pass them to the teacher's room. As I walk out of the room, a loud voice suddenly calling my name behind, "Suran!". I am hesitant to turn back, but did it anyway, a skinny-little guy coming while tucking his hands to his sweater's pouch. "Oh, hi Bud".
"What are you doing?" Buddie asked me nonchalantly. "bringing documents to Mrs. B", I told him for a while, noticing his confuse looks, "student council's stuff". He nodded, his eyes wandered before back to me, "Have you seen Chan?". I shrugged unknowingly. Buddie looks frustrated for a while as he hissed, "Argh, why is that tallboy is so hard to find?". I laughed as it is ironic for someone tall like Chan is not visible for someone short like Buddie.
and how they are best friends in all of that.
"He's probably in the gym right now", a deep voice shouted behind my back, it's Hiram.
"Ah, Hiram. You saw him?" Buddie responded and I turn my back, noticing Hiram's figure is now in front of me. Madison also presents beside him, clinging forcefully in his arms despite Hiram is not trying to give any room for her in his arms. She looks bothered that her intimate session is interrupted with me and Buddie but remains silent.
I raised my eyebrow, unamused with those two. I think I know what his excuse when they break up later, over-clinginess. My laugh burst unconsciously while thinking that, overlooked that I serve attention for those around me. As I tried to keep my mouth shut, I just realize Buddie is looking at me, and Madison, and Hiram.
"Why are you laughing?" Buddie asks oddly, probably finding it weird that I find things funny out of nowhere. I pretend to clear my throat and fake a cough, "W-who's laughing?". I see Hiram and Madison looking at me weirdly.
"He is in the Gym right now," Hiram interrupted all the focus on me. Buddie turned back at him, probably decide to not bother on my weirdness anymore, "thanks". Although Buddie and Madison have lost interest in me, I sense Hiram's eyes still focusing on me. Bravely, I look back at him, convincing myself that it's not me that he sees. He raised his eyebrows, a little smile pulled in his lips. He does not avert my eyes while my mind puzzled in his gaze.
"Suran", Buddie's voice freed me from the hypnotizing staring contest, "What are you doing now? Do you want to come with me?". I nod while a little flabbergasted. It feels awkward to stay.
The Gym Hall is crowded, there's a basketball play in a session. I stopped my way in front of the Gym and decide to wait for Buddy outside while he comes inside looking for his best friend. Unlike the Gym, outside of it is quite a deserted area. I'm busying my mind kicking little rocks on the ground. I squat down, dawdling my time to observe closely the tiny life on the ground. My mind still wanders around on Hiram's gaze. His look is mesmerizing. His dark hair is parted on the side effortlessly. His eyes are deep, along with his perfect face structure. No wonder those girls cannot resist him.
I quickly realize the depth of my thought on Hiram, trying to cease him quickly. No, I should not be thinking of someone like him.
I tried to get up and looking at the ground while standing, a pair of nice sport shoes is in front of me.
I look up.
It's Hiram.
