Lucy and Erik slowly walked out of the waiting room.
Lucy turned her head to the left. There, she saw Cole and the girl arguing about something. She turned to the right. That was the direction to the stairwell, back to the elementary level.
As tempted as Lucy was to go to the left, she couldn't get in trouble again. She decided to go back to class, albeit at a slow pace.
As they made their way back to class, Lucy couldn't help but wonder something. "Hey, Erik?"
"Yes Lucy?"
"How come Cole lookt at you?"
Erik said nothing.
Lucy waited. She never understood why grown ups waited so long to speak. But finally he did.
"...Perhaps he was thinking of something and his eyes just happened to have landed on me. I'm sure that's happened to you before, has it not?"
Lucy lightly nodded. "Yeah, I guess that makes sense." What other explanation could there be? I mean, maybe they were lovers in a previous life, but that's just my guess~
They turned a corner to the class hallway. However, as they did, a foul smell was in the air.
The fifth grader from before was leaning on a wall, smoking a cigarette. Out of instinct, Lucy hid behind the corner. She had dealt with the smell enough times at home, she didn't want to deal with it at school as well. The boy turned towards Lucy. She flinched.
The boy threw the cigarette on the ground, paying no mind to the ashes that it would leave. He marched towards Lucy with heavy breathing.
"Don't worry Lucy, I'll take care of this!" Erik said with determination.
Lucy shook her head and grabbed his arm.
"So, kid, ya got a hall pass?" The boy said in almost a scream.
Lucy nodded as she quietly handed him the slip of paper.
The boy yanked it out of her hands. He read over it.
"Tch, didja really think you could get away with this?" He waved the paper. "Please! As if an armatures signature could get past me! This is a joke." He ripped the paper in half.
Lucy said nothing.
"Maybe I can-" Erik began to speak.
"I can do whatever you want me to." Lucy had learned years ago that silence can be bought at the price of ones body.
The boy thought for a moment then smirked. "Anything?"
"...yes."
"This is a terrible idea-"
"Alright then. I'll give ya two options. One," he pulled out a switch blade from his back pocket. "You let me stab you. Or two, you make a magical unicorn appear. If you fail number two, we'll have to go with number one."
Lucy smiled. "Of course I can get you a unicorn!" She held her open palm behind her back. "I just need to get a slip of paper from my pocket!"
"Hahaha... clever girl." Erik got a strip of paper from thin air and handed to her. She had no paper, and to see paper appear from no where would frighten him.
Lucy calmly folded the paper as she was shown while the boy played with the knife.
Just as the boys patience began to run thin, Lucy had finished. She handed it to him. "Make your wish and blow on it."
The boy hesitated for a moment. Realizing that he had nothing to lose, he took the star, closed his eyes, and blew on it. As Erik said it would, it disappeared.
Clip clop clip clop
The boy opened his eyes and slowly turned around. Behind him, was a pretty white unicorn with a purple main.
Lucy was mildly confused at first. "...is that-?"
"Rarity!" The boy said as he unbraced the mythical creature. Suddenly remembering his place, the boy blushed. "You can uh," he coughed, "you can leave now and forget this..."
"Oh... okay..." Lucy and Erik walked around the strange events that just unfolded before them.
Just as the two reached the door to class, a thought occurred to Erik.
"Wait, Lucy, he tore up the hall pass!" His voice shook a little.
Lucy smiled as she held up a hall pass. "Don't worry, my brother gave me an extra one!"
She opened the door and lo and behold... no one noticed her. What a depressing life this child leads.
She went back to her desk as no one said anything. Lucy pulled out a blank sheet of paper and wrote something down. She slid it so that Erik could read it without drawing attention to others.
Are you always going to be in class with me?
"I don't think so. But since this your first day, I have to stay with you for at least a full 24 hours to make sure nothing bad happens to you... like several times today..."
"Okay class, back to whole group!" The teacher said. There was a flurry of students as they all rushed back to their seats.
"So, now that we've all finished our assignment, let's begin show and tell!" Her voice was so enthusiastic one couldn't help but wonder if she knew how third graders reacted to that level of enthusiasm.
They all cheered.
Because during show and tell, she left the classroom and they wouldn't have to deal with her over enthusiastic voice.
Lucy quickly scribbled something down to show Erik.
I forgot about show and tail!
Erik calmly crossed out "tail" and wrote "tell."
"Don't worry Lucy," he said. "Just show them the stars." He handed her several more slips of paper.
Her hands shook slightly as she picked one up. She hoped this would be enough for the teacher...
"Now students, while you are doing show and tell, I will be in the front office doing teacher things! Have fun!" The teacher grabbed her purse and walked out of the room.
Who was Lucy kidding, that lady would not care what anyone brought in.
Regardless, the students presented as if the teacher were still there. She told them she'd be surveilling the class room at the start of school. While it was true that there were cameras, Lucy knew for a fact that the ones in this classroom are broken.
The children talked about what most children are enthusiastic about: Legos, My Little Pony, Barbie, Hot Wheels, and all the like. With the exception of one girl who decided to show off her Sailor Moon doll...what a weeb.
Finally, it was Lucys turn and she had just finished making her stars. Since she sat in the back, she could easily hand one to each of her classmates. She would leave one on their desk and continue to the next students. They picked them up with perplexed expressions.
"These are wishing stars," Lucy explained as she continued to hand them out. "Obviously they're for wishing. You make a wish and then blow on it. But don't say your wish out loud or they won't work." Lucy wasn't quite sure if that last part was true or not but she didn't want to hear any yelling.
A girl wearing too much makeup for her age threw the star at Lucy. "This is stupid. You still believe in fairytales and wishes? Grow up!"
Someone said quietly, "Linda you brought in a Barbie doll dressed as a Disney princess to show and tell." The class snickered at the random remark.
The girl, who was apparently named "Linda" stood up fast enough to knock her seat over.
"Ugh, are you defending her, do you want to fight me?!"
"You're wearing so much mascara that your eyes are glued shut, no wonder you can't see me!" Lucy began to laugh as well once she noticed who was speaking. It was Erik and he sounded like a child somehow.
"I'm going to tell my father about this!" She stomped her foot.
"Because thats definitely a trope no one has heard before." No one in the room knew what a trope was but they laughed anyways because it was probably a joke. The word itself is kind of funny too. Trope. It's like a weird way of saying dope. Trope. Yeah, only Erik knew the meaning to that word. And maybe that one weeb.
Linda sat down and said nothing. "I want my star back please so I can make a wish!" She demanded.
Lucy handed her the star that was so rudely thrown.
Linda closed her eyes for a moment then blew on the star. A cell phone popped out of thin air and landed on her desk. She gasped. "Ha, see?! Now I can call my dad with this!" She stopped typing numbers once the situation had just finished processing in her mind. "...w-whoa, my wish came true!"
Lucy blushed a little.
All at once, the stars began to disappear and were replaced by toys, electronics, and other worldly things that children wanted. One girl suddenly had a full set of Seraph of the End manga... what a weeb.
Perhaps this was Lucys opportunity to make friends. She looked back at Erik as he gave her two enthusiastic thumbs up. She laughed d^u^b
