Later that night, at dinner, everybody sat at the table eating and sharing stories.
The room started to rumble as if it were being subjected to an earthquake. Even the floating lights were swaying.
“What’s happening?” Jessy asked. She was gripping the table hard enough for her knuckles to turn white.
“We’re moving. This happens every week or so.” Nia answered before going to eat again. Everybody stared at her in amazement as she ate her soup without spilling a drop.
Porter was starting to get dizzy. It felt like the room wasn’t just shaking but spinning at the same time. At the other side of the room, a large man tried desperately to keep his mouth over the bin. Porter turned away as the man’s dinner evacuated his stomach.
The room stopped suddenly as if the brakes were put on. Many people, including Porter, fell out of there chairs. He quickly got up again and sat back down. The headache he now had was pounding against his skull.
“Does that happen every time?” Porter asked.
“Yes, always at dinner too.” Nia laughed. “I should probably reschedule dinner on the days of the move.”
A loud bang vibrated off the walls. The sound was unexpected and loud.
“What was that?” Jessy asked Nia, who had stopped eating. Loud chatter started around the hall, everybody wondering what that was and coming up with theories.
“Porter and Anti with me. Kyte, Kylie and Jessy calm everybody down and lock the doors.” Nia stood. Porter and Anti followed her out of the hall and towards the entrance to the cave. Along the way, Nia pressed a hidden button on the wall and a transparent force-field surrounded the cave. The banging suddenly became muffled.
“What’s happening?” Porter asked as they approached the entrance.
“Someone is trying to break in. Either by accident or they figured out our location. You guys are the most powerful, so you are the best options to defend the cave, hence why I brought you with me.” Nia’s attitude turned serious.
They stepped outside of the cave, but from a side door rather then the front door. Porter took a moment to acknowledge the view. They were no longer in Australia, it looked like they were somewhere in Europe.
Porter spotted the intruders, five men in silver plated armour rammed their tall and pointy spears into the shield that now protected the cave. Porter could see the craters in the wall from before the shield was up and assumed they were stronger than any human.
“What do you want?” Nia demanded once they were visible to the invaders.
Another man, who was burly and looked quite a lot stronger than the rest of the soldiers, stepped out from the shadow of a tree close to them.
“Nia. Long time no see.” The man’s voice was dark and deep. By the look Nia gave him, Porter knew this man was bad news.
“State your business here.” Anti ordered. She too looked as if she knew this man.
“The people demand that the prince be brought back for trial. The king and Queen refuse to fulfill there wishes, so I, General Trecher, am here to do what they won’t.” the man stated. His soldiers lined up behind him, ready for the fight that was bound to happen.
“You do not have the right.” Anti countered.
“On the contrary. This is what the people of our kingdom want. The King and Queen have no power over this issue, since their emotions are getting in the way of there duty.” General Trecher stood tall. “Take them.” He commanded his soldiers.
In formation, they marched forward towards Porter and Anti.
Nia pulled a gun out of nowhere. She aimed it at one of the men and pulled the trigger. A ball of electricity shot the man in the chest, he twitched as he fell to the ground.
General Trecher and the rest of his men started attacking. One threw his spear right for Anti’s head; she caught it and threw it back.
Three spears flew towards Porter at once. By a miracle he was able to dodge each spear. Without thinking he created a bow and three arrows out of water and shot the arrows, with perfect accuracy, into their chests. All it did was knock them back, but Porter still couldn’t believe he had just done that.
Nia shot another one with her gun as he struggled to his feet after being struck by Porter’s arrows.
They were all down and stayed down. Nia took their weapons and joined Porter and Anti by the cave wall.
“That was impressive.” She told Porter. “how did you know to do that?”
“I don’t know, I wasn’t thinking about it. Probably muscle memory.” Porter replied.
“Yes, that was your favourite move. You told me once that you only do it because it makes you look cool, which it does.” Anti laughed.
“Catching the spear was pretty cool.” Porter told her. “Hang on, where is General Trecher?” Porter had forgotten about him, and so had the others.
Two strong arms wrapped around Porter’s chest and yanked him towards the ground. Everything went dark. He felt light as General Trecher pulled him through the dirt. Somehow, they were no longer solid, they had turned into water and were traveling beneath the ground. Despite their liquid forms, the General was still able to pull him. After a long while Porter could see light again. It felt like they had been in the ground for hours.
Blue filled his eyes, he realised they were in the ocean. General placed handcuffs around Porter’s wrists and pushed him forward. He looked backwards to see that Trecher was now a merman. His hair had turned from dark brown to bright red. His tail was long and black with hints of silver. He didn’t have the tattoo like Porter did, but his skin now had a subtle orange tint. His fingers were webbed, and he had gills on both sides of his neck.
General Trecher pulled off his clothes and let them drift towards the ocean floor. With a strong hand he ripped of Porter’s clothes and threw them away. That was favourite new outfit. He watched it sink towards the floor.
